IMO the reason for firing a coach are:
1. Bad behavior or scandals.
2. Violating rules and getting the program banned or on probation.
3. Poor coaching results with no improvement in sight.
HCMR is not guilty of the first two cases. Now this team's season has been disappointing for many. Our D started out poor, but has improved steadily and could be very strong when it gets some players back.
Our O has struggled with INTs. Our QB has been pressured and has thrown INTs as a result, but one could make the case, that if we can reduce the INTs, that this offense has the potential to be good, since it seems it has shown that it can run well without its first string rb. The result is that this years team has the potential to recover and be good this year.
One could also argue that this teams future potential is very good, because this staff has stepped up its recruiting. It also has players in the wings like TG that have shown good promise. People can argue that HCMR records does not indicate championships, but he and staff have shown themselves to be exceptional recruiters and much better than at their previous stays. In addition it has IMO hired a better DC than what it had at OSU.
IMO HCMR does not deserve or need to be fired. If this team had no hope of becoming a contender, I would change coaches, but this team is likely to continue to get better this season and next season. I am kinda torn, because I think SF will be a very good coach and do want him to coach here at some point. What should happen and what will happen? I dont know. I am not an insider.
