Smart of them
The SEC does the same thing but nobody calls them on it.
Every single SEC team plays a nonconf P5 or equivalent (BYU) opponent this yearSmart of them

But only 8 conference games.Every single SEC team plays a nonconf P5 or equivalent (BYU) opponent this year
Typical of liberalism... lower the bar and expect better results. Problem is all you achieve is a weaker result. A weak schedule gives you weak teams like weak practices gives you a soft team. The SEC could take the NFC South some years...they don't have to play a strong OOC schedule.
This move was made by people who believe it's better to dumb down everyone as opposed to trying to be elite.
The B1G and SEC don't have to play strong non-conference teams because they're already big enough with strong enough teams in their conferences.
What is this supposed to mean? The only team in the BIG10 that doesn't have a P5 out of conference this year is Michigan on top of playing a 9 game conference schedule.Every single SEC team plays a nonconf P5 or equivalent (BYU) opponent this year
They basically scheduled in a late year bye week. They should have 1 weak non con opponent and then go to 8 conference games. Plus add a terrible directional team late in the season like the sec. If you can't beat em join em.
the B1G playing an extra conference game when only 2 out of 14 teams are worth a sh*t makes the schedule easier, not harderBut only 8 conference games.
playing iowast every season, your team is one that barely checked the P5 box anyhowWhat is this supposed to mean? The only team in the BIG10 that doesn't have a P5 out of conference this year is Michigan on top of playing a 9 game conference schedule.
Except playing a conference game instead of a non-conference opponent also maximizes conference revenue. Depending on the who the non-conference opponent might be, that's not necessarily good for the fans but it's good for conference revenue which gets shared with conference teams. They also arent dumb enough to play 9 games in conference either.
They claimed they would do it during the 4 Team playoff era and it never happened. Hell the 2015 Iowa team if they beat MSU they go to the playoff. The only way strength of schedule matters is if multiple undefeated teams are vying and that is not likely going to happen.Watch a BiG TeN team get passed over for having a weak-ass SOS
I'll add in, though, an additional conference game adds another 0.5 losses per team across the league.Except playing a conference game instead of a non-conference opponent also maximizes conference revenue. Depending on the who the non-conference opponent might be, that's not necessarily good for the fans but it's good for conference revenue which gets shared with conference teams.
And of course playing a non-conference Power 5 team doesn't always result in a quality opponent. There are some weak non-conference Power 5 teams out there.
The SEC also only plays 8 conference opponents every year while the B1G plays 9. That means that teams in the SEC generally play one more cupcake per year compared to teams in the SEC.Every single SEC team plays a nonconf P5 or equivalent (BYU) opponent this year
No different than the SEC Schoos playing DIV 2 teams a week before huge games. Mid season no less.Typical B1G cowardice
10/14 B1G teams barely checked that box to begin with
I hope trev shows some backbone and doesn’t cancel. Playing lowly CU is bad enough. We deserve a marquee non-con matchup annually.
And they play them in November. It basically functions as a bye week for them in November. I personally think that Nebraska should play all cupcake FCS teams 1 for the opener, one in October, one in November. Maybe you make one of those an okay team. But tactically you guarantee three wins but more importantly you get three extra bye weeks where you can sit starters and help with injuries. The SEC also only plays 8 conference opponents every year while the B1G plays 9. That means that teams in the SEC generally play one more cupcake per year compared to teams in the SEC.
EXACTLY!!!Watch a BiG TeN team get passed over for having a weak-ass SOS
You can only count 1 FCS victory per year for bowl eligibility. The other 2 nonconference opponents need to at least be FBS teams. And they play them in November. I know this is a popular refrain, but the SEC doesn’t have to prove anything to anyoneNo different than the SEC Schoos playing DIV 2 teams a week before huge games. Mid season no less.
Playing the bottom quarter of the B1G is as cupcake as any 4 non-P5 teams in the country, and arguably moreso because of the compete dearth of skill player/quarterback talentThe SEC also only plays 8 conference opponents every year while the B1G plays 9. That means that teams in the SEC generally play one more cupcake per year compared to teams in the SEC.
Way to compare scheduling football games with political views. 🙄Typical of liberalism... lower the bar and expect better results. Problem is all you achieve is a weaker result. A weak schedule gives you weak teams like weak practices gives you a soft team.
What the Big Ten doesn't realize is that most of the Big Ten teams are the "watered down cupcake"Typical B1G cowardice

I think the conference does realize it, hence their push to insulate itself from exposure both now and historicallyWhat the Big Ten doesn't realize is that most of the Big Ten teams are the "watered down cupcake"
Minny
Purdue
MSU
NW
Iowa
Indiana
Maryland
Rutgers
Nebraska (Which should change with just a normal head coach now)
It goes on and on.
Just imagine when the AD from Oregon State calls the AD from Miinny...the set up a game, hang up the phone and both high five their co-workers and say "YES! We scheduled a power 5 cupcake!"I think the conference does realize it, hence their push to insulate itself from exposure
The ones who don’t realize it are B1G fans because they’re absolute clueless dolts who wouldn’t know good football if it keistered their grandpappies
The SEC may be going to 9 conf games with the addition of OU and UT
If Nebraska needs the other two games to get bowl eligible then Nebraska does not need to be going bowling. You can only count 1 FCS victory per year for bowl eligibility. The other 2 nonconference opponents need to at least be FBS teams.
Same goes with the Herky’s.. Right! If Nebraska needs the other two games to get bowl eligible then Nebraska does not need to be going bowling.
Correct any team who needs fcs wins to make a bowl game should not be invited.Same goes with the Herky’s.. Right!
Not just for bowling. If we are playoff eligible but three of our wins are vs. FCS teams and the teams ahead of us only have 1 wins or no wins vs FCS teams, that might keep us out of the playoffs. If Nebraska needs the other two games to get bowl eligible then Nebraska does not need to be going bowling.
