The Big Ten West relay team.

I am with you !!! There are some sharp posters on here who worry about the o-line. What TN did in the bowl game, too linemen, who appeared to be poorly coached in pass blocking terrified me. Barney Cotton talked of O-linemen attacking d-linemen in pass blocking ( rather than waving as they flew by on their favorite move ). I imagine HCMR has this in his crosshairs now, to check on any hardening of the attitudes in coaching vs results. My thoughts are if you can run block, you fire out and hit and control the defender, while maintaining at the line of scrimmage - even if he beats you, you have delayed him 2 secs and probably taken away his favorite speed move ( qb gets at least 3 seconds ). Hoping for some instruction here: better yet some encouraging news. GBR
Well, we now know that Riley will not hesitate to fire your ass if he thinks you aren't getting the job done. So if he thinks Cav is not doing a good job he will can him too. The Tennessee game was just shocking. Horrible offensive line play. But Riley must not think it was Cav's fault.

But yeah, it is the one part of next year's team that worries me. But I honestly think we have some excellent young talent on the line for next year. So I am cautiously optimistic about its improvement. Imo our whole season next year hinges on it

Agree, plus I expect the new coach in the Spring to help with the OL. Hopefully someone that can recruit too, would love to see our OL recruiting look like our QB and WR recruiting.

Didn't he run faster than that at the Combine?
Not that I recall. Somebody will look it up but he doesn't run away from people. He's more likely to stiff arm a safety and knock him on his ass than out run him. Love the way he played at NU. Great attitude. Edit: just looked it up and he ran a best of 4.44 with a range to 4.55. Damned fast for a man his size BUT the NFL Analysis was that he "lacks elite speed for separation." Good speed but pretty average for an NFL wide receiver. Would still love to have him on my Vikings.

Got to love chucking it around the yard until somebody punches you in the damn face! #funandgun #spurrior #96Fiestabowl

Swift and Peterson could catch the dang ball. Sometimes I think people rate potential ahead of results, Swift and Peterson gave us results. Let's wait amd see if all these freshmen can catch as well as those two before we relegate them to "posession guys" (slow white guys) or special team players. Swift and Peterson were two of my favorite players, I hate to see them relegated to the back of the class for some guys who haven't caught a single ball here yet.
X1000 about swift and peterson

You have to take some things cornicator says with a grain of salt. Sometimes he can be our board's version of RutgersAl.

If you have DPE, DJ Spielman, Tyjion Lindsey, Jaevon McQuitty, Jamire Calvin, Tre Bryant, and Mikale Wilbon on your offense in the Big Ten West and still can't figure out how to score 40 points per game, you're doing it wrong.

Not really Corn. You MUST have a competent QB or all those weapons do you no good at all.

Those same weapons with TA at QB and the offensive line that showed up against Iowa and Tennessee wont score close to 40 points a game.

Its gonna take more than those guys.

Abduallah had exceptional burst but was not actually a real burner straight ahead. Q was not a burner at all. He had good but not great speed for a college or NFL wideout. He's making his living now by being a good route running smart versatile tough big target with good hands. He was probably my favorite player on Pelini's teams behind Rex. The guy could have played linebacker or safety IMO as well. We've had a couple of guys on this last year's team with excellent speed so it will be interesting to see if the new kids look that much quicker.

Q was a a low 4.4 guy quiet as kept. Thats excellent NFL or college speed for a guy 6 ft 2 220+ pounds...jus sayin.

According to the NFL website, he ran a 4.45.

I saw a video of him running a 4.40 at the combine, but I believe he ran one even faster than that. But many players go to combine training centers where they specifically work on dramatically improving their combine tests performances. Some players dramatically improve their times.

How fast are you in pads? 4.6 guys can play faster than 4.4 guys at times. Not sayin 4.4 or lower isnt desired however.

Combine best with all the training for the 40 was a 4.44 followed with a 4.55. I posted it earlier that was damned fast "for a man his size". NFL Network analysis AFTER the combine was that he "lacked elite speed necessary for separation". Meaning he was not a "burner". Pretty average for an NFL WR. He was rated as a "training camp" guy. He's done well and I said many times that I thought that his senior year he was the best overall football player on our team. The guy was a tackling machine when we threw a pick and on special teams.

You watched the last half of the season and yet were still shocked by the offensive line vs. Tennessee?

ha. Yes I was... a bit. Mainly because Tennessee had one of THE worst rush defenses in the nation heading into the bowl. And it wasn't as if they were lousy at the beginning of the season but got better at the end. Their last games of the regular season were awful against the run. So I wasn't expecting us to run the ball up and down the field, but I was hoping we would have enough success to slow down their pass rush. I did NOT expect that we would rush for only about 60 yards total (40 of which came on one run). So I was not surprised our line played like shit, but was shocked at how truly awful they were.

Not a good showing by the running backs either.

I'm with you hoping what's in bold is the case. The thought crossed my mind that Cav stayed because of his relationship with Sarrell and other recruits. Hope this isn't why he is retained.

Tennessee knew Nebraska couldn't block Derek Barnett. This allowed them to play 8, sometimes 9 in the box. Even if Nebraska tried to throw the football, they knew they could get to Fyfe.

They were more than content allowing a few big pass plays. They knew Barnett would wreak havoc and Nebraska's Center was god awful.

Only when getting up from a hit. He was a very good player for Nebraska, and never looked slow. That characterization doesn't fit at all.

You really need to watch other programs that actually have SPEED....

Lol. Come back when you have something good to add. His only reason for getting drafted was his speed and vertical threat ability. Otherwise teams would've avoided his glass frame like the plague.

Once again you nail the point. A lot of depth to the comment. That destroys what good players you have, they are simply outmanned. I still saw some fundamental things that lead to being dominated or giving up plays. And that was one on one ( Appears to be coaching, or some part of ? ). Ugh GBR

I seem to recall when we first came to the B1G conference there was a great deal of bragging about our dominant speed compared to the sluggard B1G teams. Never really turned out to be a factor.

I am excited about the speed we have coming into the program, they should be fun to watch. Speed is one of those factors that is relevent to the speed of the team you are playing.
Wisconsin couldn't deal with PSUs speed this season. That was pretty evident.
