The Big Ten West relay team.

We're going the have some speed, that is for sure. We'll see how that O-Line has improved in the off-season. I'm going to guess that 2017 is going to be a different story from 2016. Not to mention depth.

I don't think our fans are ready for the speed that is coming to Lincoln, because we haven't had it in a long time.

I think Nebraska has had it. Hell, in 2013, they had Taylor Martinez, Ameer Abdullah, KBell, Jamal Turner, and Q Enunwa. Unfortunately, the QB couldn't really distribute the football around to his talent, and the scheme was built around the QBs ability to run.

Will any of these freshman be playing next year?

Yes. All of them.

And I didn't mention Stanley Morgan, JR, Bryan Reimers, Devine Ozhigbo, Keyshawn Johnson, JR, or even Jack Stoll and Englehaupt who will both shock everyone next season.

Nebraska will be able to stretch the field or extend possessions. They will be able to run quick zone plays or run power.

And in the meantime, the offensive line with Farmer, Gates, Foster, Raridon (who is going to be a star), and the mixture of Conrad, Farniok, or Knevel will be the most talented Husker unit in 15+ years.

The pressure is all on you Tanner Lee. Nebraska will really be able dictate tempo and take what they want. I feel bad for Bill Callahan. He would've given up his left nut for this type of talent.

To put this in perspective, Mo Purify would be situational and a part time starter. Nate Swift would be a possession guy. Terrence Nunn or Frantz Hardy wouldn't even see the field. Todd Peterson would be a special teams guy only. Ross pilkington and Grant Mulkey would've been transferred to Doane.

And Joe Dailey would've been tarred and feathered.

I seem to recall when we first came to the B1G conference there was a great deal of bragging about our dominant speed compared to the sluggard B1G teams. Never really turned out to be a factor.

I am excited about the speed we have coming into the program, they should be fun to watch. Speed is one of those factors that is relevent to the speed of the team you are playing.

I'm as pumped as anyone to land all these guys, but if we think we are going to take the division by relying on a group of freshman, I don't see it. Don't get me wrong, these guys will probably see the field, but there will be growing pains. It's 3 years from now that this is going to pay huge divodends IMO

I totally understand your point. My thing is, unfortunately those speed players were scarce because our former coach was a below average recruiter. Once his speed players got injured (Martinez, Abdullah, Turner, KB every play) we had next to no depth of above-average speed.

I should've clarified in my initial response. I don't think we've had this type of speed in this much quantity in a long time.

Abduallah had exceptional burst but was not actually a real burner straight ahead. Q was not a burner at all. He had good but not great speed for a college or NFL wideout. He's making his living now by being a good route running smart versatile tough big target with good hands. He was probably my favorite player on Pelini's teams behind Rex. The guy could have played linebacker or safety IMO as well. We've had a couple of guys on this last year's team with excellent speed so it will be interesting to see if the new kids look that much quicker.

Anyone who could simply catch a ball is a better option than Franz Hardy.

I don't know what these guys have for speed , but 40 times are 40 times. If they are fast, they are fast.

generally, 40 times from high schools are bullshit. i'm hopeful, just think i'll wait to see it on the field first.

AA and Turner both had pretty average speed. And Jamal's injury made him pretty slow actually. Loved 'em both, but neither were super fast.

I think the 2017 offense is going to surprise a lot of people with how good it is going to be. I am also excited to see how much our defense can improve next year with new leadership. Count me among the koolaid drinking super optimists for next year.

Swift and Peterson could catch the dang ball. Sometimes I think people rate potential ahead of results, Swift and Peterson gave us results. Let's wait amd see if all these freshmen can catch as well as those two before we relegate them to "posession guys" (slow white guys) or special team players. Swift and Peterson were two of my favorite players, I hate to see them relegated to the back of the class for some guys who haven't caught a single ball here yet.

The trick will be to get the kids to use the speed by having confidence to run full out knowing where to go.The passing game isn't your basic, down and out, flag, post, skinny post - they read, communicate with each other and the QB. Once they get on the same page and whoever the new QB is becomes comfortable you should see their speed more consistently used.

Yes, HS 40 times can be way off. I would say a majority of these kids go to camps where they are timed which is much more accurate and consistent.

Glad to have all of these guys - now would like some major speed in our D, especially the LB's.

I am with you !!! There are some sharp posters on here who worry about the o-line. What TN did in the bowl game, too linemen, who appeared to be poorly coached in pass blocking terrified me. Barney Cotton talked of O-linemen attacking d-linemen in pass blocking ( rather than waving as they flew by on their favorite move ). I imagine HCMR has this in his crosshairs now, to check on any hardening of the attitudes in coaching vs results. My thoughts are if you can run block, you fire out and hit and control the defender, while maintaining at the line of scrimmage - even if he beats you, you have delayed him 2 secs and probably taken away his favorite speed move ( qb gets at least 3 seconds ). Hoping for some instruction here: better yet some encouraging news. GBR

I never look at 40 times. I watch film. The film doesn't lie.

Pelini signed a kid named Kevin Gladney a few years ago out of Ohio. He was supposed to be a 4.4 guy. His film showed one of the slowest receivers to ever earn a scholarship at Nebraska.

There is nothing slow about Lindsey or Calvin. I would also argue McQuitty might be the most complete receiver of the bunch. He's a Stanley Morgan type athlete with more straight line speed.

I think DPE and Stanley are starters out on the boundary. I expect McQuitty and Calvin to back up those two. I also anticipate Bryan Reimers will be used on the boundary in b some specialty packages, especially in the Red Zone.

The slot will belong to Lindsey and Spielman. KJJ will also fit into the slot because he has a very similar skill set to Jordan Westerkamp.

I think it will be very fun to see Nebraska go into a Quad formation for the first time with 1 back and The QB out of the gun.

A lot of possible combinations out of Quads, but it would be exciting to see DPE, Lindsey, Spielman, and Morgan on the field at the same time.

I wish we had more speed at the linebacker position. Maybe we had it but it wasn't coached?

When you look at the elite teams they are fast fast at D line and linebacker. Well frankly speed is more noticeable on D than O in my opinion.

For sure, there is a lot of talent immediately at the WR psn. Outside of DPE and Stan, none of it is proven however. Reimers did show some promise. One would think we will have some good help on hand simply due to the shear number of highly regarded new guys, though.

4 WIDE????!!!!!! Watch your mouth. How do you have a fullback then?

I hope DPE has a huge year this year. He showed something special his freshman year then settled into his role and became stagnant it seems. Jamal Turner like. He has some huge potential. I hope he explodes this year

According to the NFL website, he ran a 4.45.

Correct. Enunwa ran very well at the combine. I was surprised how fast he was - but he did run away from all of that $EC speed against UGA, so I probably shouldn't have been so surprised.
