Indiana's Tanner Gordon won Big ten's pitcher of the week

Pitcher of the Week
Tanner Gordon, Indiana
P – Jr. – Champaign, Ill. – Champaign Central – Sport Marketing and Management
  • Fanned a career-high 12 batters in the Hoosiers’ win against Iowa, besting last's weeks 10-strikeout effort against Canisius
  • In his last two starts, the junior right-handed pitcher has struck out 22 batters, while allowing just seven hits and two earned runs in 15 innings
  • Records his first career Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honor
  • Last Indiana Big Ten Pitcher of the Week: Pauly Milto (March 11, 2019)
Not gonna lie, 12 strikeouts and, (yes, he had) zero walks is impressive. Taking that every day of the week.

But here's the thing, 7.0 innings. Kid threw 105 pitches in those seven, three hits and a run.
Waldron went nine complete, 102 pitches, two hits, one run. One walk, six strikeouts.

So how do you balance these off against each other? Well, independent and unbiased D1Baseball has a method and it's not very close. And they use a simple math thing, so many points for this, so many for that, etc.

Well Waldron's Friday performance earned a 'Game Score' of 85 ranking 2nd best of all Friday pitchers.
Gordon's Saturday job scored a 79 for 6th best of the Saturday guys.

What say you, Big Ten? Huh?

In a related note, D1Baseball's Kendall Rogers sends kudos to both Nebraska and Indiana marking both teams as Trending Up.

Indiana

The Hoosiers lost four of five games at one point with losses to Coastal Carolina, Oregon State, San Diego and Cincinnati. But they’ve been a different team since then, winning eight straight games since that point. Indiana had a strong week on the diamond, winning a slugfest against in-state rival Indiana State to begin the week before sweeping a solid Iowa club at home over the weekend. While IU did some good things offensively over the weekend, the pitching staff led the way, allowing just four runs in three games. Pauly Milto struck out 10 in 8.1 innings and Tanner Gordon struck out 12 in seven innings. IU is getting hot at the right time.

Nebraska

The Huskers are slowly but surely starting to piece together a solid resume. NU began to play a good brand of baseball at the Frisco Classic, beating Texas Tech in the tourney opener. Since that point? Nebraska went on the road and took two of three from Baylor before winning all five games it played over the past week, including a weekend series sweep over Michigan State. The Huskers had good pitching this past weekend, allowing just five runs in three games with Matt Waldron leading the charge in the series opener, striking out six and allowing just one run on two hits in a complete game performance. NU now hits the road this coming weekend to face a Minnesota club riding high after taking care of Penn State on the road.
