Texas Recruiting ?

That history didn't include Nebraska playing in the Big Ten for most of those years either. 1 or 2 players per cycle would be the max I see Frost and company getting from Texas.

How many recruits from Texas over the last 20 years were actually difference-makers here? Burkhead, Armstrong, Ozigbo? Demorrio Williams?

Texas wasn't really that important of a recruiting state for us, even when we were in the Big 12. California has been a much more important recruiting state for us. It seems like a lot of our Texas recruits didn't really live up to expectations.

The issue with Texas IMO seems to be that alot of their high school players are fully developed due to the level of high school football. Often it has seemed that what you see is what you get and they don't get better. Even Burkhead when he came in I don't think improved that much once he got on campus. The bonus with Rex was that he was ready to play day one and had a great football IQ. He put on a little muscle mass but boy not as much as one would have liked. I stood next to him in the tunnel before a game and was amazed at how small he looked as a senior.

No TX, but commits hail from 13 states, including NE. NU has 6 kids from TX on the roster, as well as Neal listing Houston as his hometown and Mo prepping in TX. Not the heyday of TX players when NU played in the Big 12. 21 Texans on the roster Suh's Sr. year.

Aaron Taylor, Turner Gill and The Sandman say hello. We've had quite a few very good players come from the state of Texas.

Nebraska NEVER relied heavily on Texas recruits, expecially at our best. Here's a stat for you:

From 1991- 1997 Nebraska signed more players from the state of Nebraska (53) than the number of Texans Osborne signed in his entire 25 year career. (52)

BTW here's a 2nd stat in honor of our coach: The 1997 National Championship team had more Nebraska kids on the 1st team offense (8) then there were Texas kids on the roster (7)

Yes we have gotten some good players from Texas. And? We get good players from everwhere.

We got a couple good Texas guys who did well last year in Devine Ozigbo and Brendan Jaimes plus a couple young ones in Damian Daniels and Cam'ron Jones ... oh and I guess we also have that freshman runningback from Cedar Hill who may be kinda good..... wait wasn't the OP saying we couldn't recruit Texas? Huh.

Rich Glover, Mike Rozier, Irving Fryar, Doug Colman, Christian Peter, Jason Peter, Jamal Lord, Wali Muhammed, Joe Daily.
Nebraska recruited New Jersey before we were in the B1G and played Rutgers...so what??

Georgia seems to be a hot place to recruit because Atlanta is blowing up as a middle class hub for great talent. It would be smart to hit texas because there isn't a great team right now. Frost had a presence in Florida and Georgia with Atlanta being as close to UCF as Lincoln is to Chicago. He is going to have to get some new ties though as that presence weakens a bit. Hopefully he can jump into texas while A@m and the Longhorns struggle, as they will over the next 5-10 years. Both of their coaches are so morally decrepit, and exposed that it is only time before their programs implode or they retire.

Keep them coming.
“Texas is a desolate place. Dry, windy, hot and flat. It creates tough people. People who endure extremes. Only other place that comes to mind with tougher conditions, tougher people and the requirement of greater resolve might be NEBRASKA.” – Rudy Linstrom, cowboy poet and storyteller, 1944.

If the state of Texas is so great, how come in the past 50 years, Texas (all major teams) has produced only 2 outright national champions? A lot of great talent over the years, but not much to show for it!
