Tennessee v Nebraska canceled

Side note: I've thought about Ohio State and how we could have played them so close regardless of Ohio State playing their B game. Bottom line- Ohio State played tight against us and very tight against Michigan. But NU and Michigan both had something really no one else had- a great defensive line. I think that was the main requirement to beating the Buckeyes last year. We are going to miss Nash, Ty and even the transfer kid more than anyone realizes.

You really think our defensive line was better than all four of OSU's playoff opponents (Tennessee, Oregon, Texas and Notre Dame)?

1. TN already had moved the series to play VaTech at a race track.
2. NU has revenue concerns due to South Stadium renovations.
3. The SEC plays 8 league games. TN hosts NMSU in November and NU is playing a league game. Why would NU schedule the equivalent of a tenth league game against the equivalent of an upper tier conference team? The non-conference choices for most of the SEC are far less than formidable.

I agree with all of this. And I also agree that if you’re in the B1G or SEC there’s no real “need” to schedule top 25 caliber opponents in the non-conference. What I don’t agree with in canceling your remaining marquee non-con matchups. Don’t be a pussy, play the matchups that are currently scheduled, then just refrain from scheduling such games going forward. I mean, we all will live. The stadium will still sell out and life will go on. I just don’t like the way we are handling the end of marquee non-con matchups. This may be the way CFB is headed, but you can evolve and adapt with some dignity. Quitting is just so… pathetic.

Hard to defend this decision when Tennessee’s AD has publicly stated he was disappointed in NU canceling the games. It’s one thing if it was a mutual agreement in that they both no longer wanted to play the games due to risk/reward in the current playoff system.

I agree. Terrible optics with this decision. Nebraska again getting in its own way. Man they make it hard to cheer for sometimes:

I agree, but if he wanted to play, then move the games when we asked for them to be moved just like we allowed when they asked for them to be moved and we let them move them back.

Don’t let Tennessee’s AD off the hook that easily.

Exactly. Move the game in Lincoln to another year. Play the one in Tennessee as scheduled. Come to a compromise. Tennessee AD is posturing. If anything he is the pu$$ie.

What would you expect him to say? Who feckin cares about Danny White? He hates Nebraska dating to us hiring Frost away from Central Florida. The bottom line is the B1G plays 9 conference games and the SEC plays 8, yet we're competing for the same playoff spots.

Tenn asked to move the game because they were attempting to break a world record for single game attendance

We asked to move the game (allegedly) because we are voluntarily closing a part of our stadium

Awesome context

I’m sorry, did I say something wrong? Tennessee could have agreed to move the game. Just like we did for them.

Just sharing a bit of truth. Nothing more, nothing less.

Yes but your take isn’t slighting Nebraska enough. Mr All About The Facts insists that everything should implicate Nebraska administrators as being incompetent. Your facts aren’t as salacious as his facts

Exactly. Don’t care. SEC already gets to play three home cupcakes - one late in the season. Even king SEC homer Finebaum says B1G is the superior football conference right now.

2026 schedule has:
Indiana (playoff team)
Washington (would have been considered a marquee non-con game 2 years ago)
Oregon (playoff team, would have been considered a marquee non-con game 2 years ago)
Ohio State (playoff team, national champion)

Our conference schedule is going to be a gauntlet every single year from now on, best case scenario we get into the playoff and have several more marquee non-con matchups. I don't care at all about the higher ups wanting to rack up some wins, that's how the game is played AND those games serve their purpose in getting better as well.

Sir you can only focusing the weak B1G teams while ignoring the bottom feeders in the SEC

Very smart move on our part. If you look at our wins over the last seven years, the majority are against mid major nobodies and conference weaklings. Replacing Tennessee with Bowling Green and whoever guarantees wins and butts in seats.
