Really good player that will command a hefty price. Could take a team to the next level

Meh… He won’t get nearly as much as he wants or thinks he’s worth. He wants $4 million a year, nobody is giving him that. Dumbass kid has his dumbass dad as representation and they WAY over played their hand. Nico has size, measurables and eligibility; but he was statistically the 10th best QB in an overrated SEC.

Additionally, according to SEC bylaws you can’t transfer from one SEC school to another in the spring portal. So that vastly limits the number of schools willing to pay 7 figures for a QB. Most of the Big XII and ACC can’t afford to pay even $1 million a year for a QB. (much less $4 million) Which basically leaves the B1G as his only option to make $2+ million a year.

Hats off to Tennessee for not caving, very positive move for the current NIL market. Nico fvcked up, now he needs a school more than a school needs him. He’ll be lucky to get the $2 million a year that Tennessee was currently paying him. His only real chance at making that $2 million is if OSU decides Sayin isn’t their guy. He’s been penciled in as OSU’s starter but apparently they’re not super impressed so far. And if OSU does take a flyer on Nico (long shot at best) he won’t get one penny more than the $2 million UT was paying him. Probably get less cause OSU has all the leverage. They’re not necessarily looking for a QB, most teams aren’t at this point, but Nico is looking for a school.

North Carolina seems to have a big need at QB, and with Bill at the helm.. having a chance to really raise the universities stock, may be desperate enough to pay Nico. However, would Bill be willing to work with his family?

Colorado would also seem like a program willing to accept anything, but not sure they have the bag.

Of the teams in the Big Ten that could afford him and don't have a proven commodity at qb, I think Oregon, Michigan, tOSU would be the most likely, but I don't think any of them are desperate enough to also accept the baggage that comes with him, and although he is somewhat proven, as Frost would say, is he better than what we got.

Those are decent options/possibilities for Nico. But they won’t pay him the $4 million he wants. Nobody is gonna pay him one penny over the $2 million UT was paying him. Unless Nico can get 2 schools in a bidding war for him (unlikely) he won’t even get $2 million. As I said above, he’s created a situation where he needs a school more than a school needs him.

His dad must be a doozy from reports . I think there is a reason Rhule and Nebraska stopped recruiting little brother :

He’s a big talent. Only watched him play. Sure, he’s young. But he got game. Didn’t realize he had off-field issues

ohio state always seem to have the money and patience to take a chance on less than perfect players. they are in it to stack talent and to win.

On the Chuck Oliver show they were speculating that a California school (USC or UCLA) is offering him more money.

Heard that on the Rivals main board. But then a USC fan piped in and said they can’t/won’t pay $2 million for a QB. Said they might take him for the right price, but it won’t be more than 2 million. Claimed to be knowledgeable about USC’s NIL situation, but IDK really know what to think. 🤷‍♂️

Ha. CU was first school outside of SEC that I thought of. He’s got that ‘Me first’ quality that DS seems to relate to. Does a desperate Venables take a chance?

Disagree.

Oh you need them to fill out your roster. Don't get me wrong.

But your team won't be any good if you rely on that. Id rather have a team of guys who have played already than a freshmen who may get mad and leave at the end of year.

It's free agency now. Year to year.

I thought Maiava was the Trojans starter for this upcoming season. I wouldn’t think they would spend that kind of money when they already have a QB.

His dad posted this on Thursday after Pete Nakos (correctly) reported that his son was in discussions with Tennessee for more money.

SEC rules prohibit an intra-conference transfer in the spring portal window, which would eliminate Oklahoma. It seems like that rule would be ripe for challenge in court, but Oklahoma got a pretty good transfer quarterback from Washington State. So, I doubt that they would be interested in Iamaleava.

Majority of the time you’re not going to be starting a true freshman QB unless he is exceptional good..

I still feel you need to get the best QB you possibly can every year let them develop for a year and be a potential starter the next season.

Interesting items from the ESPN article linked below:
  • Iamaleava was making $2.4 million on a contract that was reported to be $8 million when he signed it. But he started receiving payments when he was still in high school, and the total value of the contract would have been closer to $10 million over the life of the deal, sources told ESPN.
  • The day before the winter portal ended in January, Iamaleava's representatives asked for his deal to increase to the $4 million range, but Tennessee didn't redo his deal. "We weren't going to flinch this time either," a source told ESPN.
  • Tennessee was aware that Iamaleava's representatives had reached out to at least one other school, Oregon, prior to the start of spring practice, sources told ESPN, but Oregon said it wasn't interested.
  • Sources said officials from Tennessee's collective have already begun reaching out to third parties tied to potential Iamaleava replacements for 2025. With Iamaleava's future uncertain, collective officials began to make calls Friday to see what the potential market could look like. One quarterback got more money from his school Friday after Tennessee's collective called third-party officials tied to him, a source told ESPN.
Sources: Tennessee moving on from starting QB Nico Iamaleava

I think Deion would be fine taking a prima donna like that. But the problem is CU and Deion coming up with the 2+ million just for him.

Well, technically they won’t have to come up with 2+ million if nobody else is willing to pay him that. I don’t know where he ends ups, but I’ll be surprised if he even gets the 2 million he was receiving from UT. He doesn’t have the negotiating leverage, he needs a school more than they need him. And, there’s a VERY limited pool of teams that will pay over a million for a QB. My guess is he ends up at a school with little chance of making the playoffs and takes a massive pay cut. We’ll see…

Hopefully Dylan’s restructuring/contract requests after (also hopefully) a big 2025 don’t become too public

This kid is a complete clown. I don’t see DR head exploding like this schmuck
Renegotiating is pretty standard practice when you create value

Next time you’re cleaning someone’s clubs, you should ask them about it

$4 million for a top quarterback appears to be the going rate now.

"Carson Beck transferred from Georgia to Miami for his final year of eligibility for more than $4 million in NIL money, a source told Front Office Sports. Darian Mensah transferred from Tulane to Duke for $8 million over two years, CBS reported. John Mateer transferred from Washington State to Oklahoma for the same price, 247Sports reported.

It sure looks like $4 million per year is the market rate for a top college quarterback right now. But check back in one month and the numbers will probably go up. Quinn Ewers—who ended up declaring for the NFL Draft—was supposedly offered $8 million by an unnamed school to play one more college season, according to 247Sports. That is the breakneck pace at which the NIL Wild West is only getting wilder."

Reports? Doesn’t mean all are true. I seriously doubt Duke football is paying a QB from Tulane 4 million.
