Teams to beat in the Big Ten West in 2018 ....

After all, they have won 5 of 7 divisions, dating back to 2011, when Nebraska joined the Big Ten. In 2010, they beat Ohio State and Iowa in back to back Saturdays; and with the help of Penn State over Michigan State in Happy Valley ... rolled into the Rose Bowl!

Next up:

The Media, like the Iowa Hawkeyes. The Big Ten season opens for Wisconsin @ Iowa. An upset in this game would certainly open up the race for the 2018 Big Ten title.

Does QB Clayton Thorson come back from the ACL knee injury enough to lead them to victories in 2018?

The Wildcats also have the nation's largest win streak, at 8 games!

The first Big Ten conference opener is in Week 1 on Thursday night at Purdue.

Year 0 for P.J. Fleck is over ....

They were 0-9 in the Big Ten conference and have lost 10 straight games.

So, the 2018 Nebraska Huskers have plenty to play for with new head coach Scott Frost and his staff from UCF, who went from 6-7 to 13-0 last year. The first 3 games are all in Lincoln, ahead of the 2018 Big Ten opener in Ann Arbor against Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines. It should be an entertaining Big Ten West in 2018!

Last year's finish ....

West Division
No. 6 Wisconsin 9 – 0 13 – 1
No. 20 Northwestern 7 – 2 10 – 3
Iowa 4 – 5 8 – 5
Purdue 4 – 5 7 – 6
Nebraska 3 – 6 4 – 8
Minnesota 2 – 7 5 – 7
Illinois 0 – 9 2 – 10
Championship: Ohio State 27, Wisconsin 21

Success is certainly not judged solely on Wins and Losses, right?

Northwestern will lose to Purdue.

You may be right. However, I think Northwestern, if they can get Clayton Thorson healthy and back, could be a dark horse in the Big Ten West.

They have some talent in Evanston. However, they may not get out of the blocks strong again. They were 10-3 last year, have won 8 straight, but had plenty of issues last year and in the past, in September.

Their schedule is strangely brutal. And everytime they have to play that schedule in the Even years, they become marginal again.
