Tanner enters nfl draft

Lee certainly seems as NFL-ready as Trevor Siemian, who was a late-round pick and spent 1 1/2 seasons as a starter. So given the right situation, I can see him making an NFL roster. On the other hand, Lee has a habit of forcing the ball into windows that are too tight for his arm strength. Will need to fix that issue in a hurry.

This one hurts as Frost could have adapted this system to him. Am sure he would have stayed around with Riley.

We do not want that. Right move for him. Riley did with Tommy Armstrong and sent the offense backwards once he put in his QB. Start with your system and input the QB you need. Just like Frost will do with Adrian Martinez.

Absolutely the right move for him. Even if undrafted, he could still make a roster/practice squad and work his way up. He was not going to fit in SF's offense and I'm not convinced TG or POB are the right guys either. Time will tell.

At least he/we can move on, and let the competition sort it all out.

It is really hard to predict qb success in the NFL but the process is becoming more accurate. Height, arm strength, durability, and toughness all matter, but the most important trait is the time and accuracy of decisions. The successful rookies all make the right decisions in the shortest amount of time, and then back it up with goo arm strength and accuracy...another overlooked feature is footwork...Tom Brady will be in the hall o' fame because of his decision making, and his footwork, all of his other measurables are mediocre. Tanner lee has really bad feet, and poor decision making..not a good mix for an NFL future...but a qb from Tulane, who thrown 40 pick 6s isn't expected to be much, so if he make 250 k on the practice squad for 3 years it is a victory.

Riley had a system?

TL, as a Cornhusker gave it his best and took a beating every week for US FANS and his team mates, and he did it with class and without complaint or excuse. He was and IS a class act. He DESERVES respect. I think he is a warier for it and am sure he, as well as we fans, wish it had been a different result. GBR Tanner--ALWAYS.

Really? A warier? Ok Tanner's mom, get off the computer.

The kid has played under a former NFL head coach and QB coach in a pro-style system and displayed some serious arm talent. He struggled at times with decisions but that is not unique for a college QB. Basically he's a year ahead of most college QBs who have played in a spread system in college. I will be surprised if he doesn't get drafted and somebody is going to get a steal. I won't be surprised if the Patriots take him if he's still around in the 4th or 5th round.

I think he is going rise up the draft rankings.

Despite being a Nebraska fan, I honestly believe he has a natural throwing motion and a strong arm.

He was vastly improved after his first four or five games.

I believe his evaluations are down now because of how bad Nebraska was. I think he will be in the top five of draft risers this spring.

I wish he would have stayed for 2018.

I wish him well and I hope he's the last "pocket passer with a big arm who can make all the throws" that we see around here. No more statues who live to throw into double coverage for me.

I'm not seeing him drafted. Too many picks, couldn't carry the team at all when needed. Maybe sign afterwards though.

The projected number one QB Josh Rosen has 10 picks in 11 games. The second projected QB Sam Darnold has 12 picks. The NFL doesn't care about INTs, it wants measurables and Tanner has them.

edited to add: The third projected QB Josh Allen had 15 picks in 2016.

Once a Husker, always a Husker..... unless the bitter pricks on this board decide a kid isnt.

Sometimes it seems like you just talk out your ass to be contrary. You fit in real well around here.
I agree with dinglefritz in this case. Having a year of experience in a pro-style offense will give him a leg up on spread QBs in at least earning a roster spot immediately (or sticking around on the practice squad). That's step one, and a crucial step.

So I've been couch- and toilet-ridden most of the day, saw this post, and wanted to hit the "Like" button because this guy was posted the exact same think I was thinking. My goodness being sick sucks.

How could I forget Josh Allen? He could go one or two or seven (Jets) or second round. But I am a fan of his.

Anyone who believes a middling spread qb would have the same chance as a middling pro-style qb in the NFL has no clue. It's just their bitter butthurt coming up. JD Spielman thinks Tanner has what it takes. You super-fans gonna jump all over him for believing that?

I believe in JD over Riley and Langs any day.

I'm impressed by how every single one of your posts is dumber than the previous one. It truly is a rare feat.

Argue it then Mr Kool aid? All you spout off is how it’s the coaches fault and they can fix everything. Who’s going in the nfl on the current roster? Google is your friend. I’ve got time v

Hurts what? Our interception total for next year?

Weren’t you supporting him when he signed and was the savior??? Oh how things change. Bet you’re a great loyal human. Let me guess, POB and Gab are way better - the coaches chose to not play them so they could lose. Ummmmmmmm ok sparky :)

Seems like a good kid. He will get a shot and about all he could ask for, especially considering he was a turnover machine.

Like he's going to throw TL under the bus. How do you acct for JD's bias?

Yeah, we're asking for problems by taking a spread option attack and modifying it for a pro style QB who has cinder blocks for feet. Why don't we just ask for Jim freaking Druckenmiller to run Frosts offense. I just want to see Frost get "his" system in place and running, enough of this square peg in a round hole garbage..

Agree. Especially with our schedule and lack of talent. There’s 2 NFL folks on the roster and there’s goes 1 of them. He really came on. He’ll have a 10 plus year career as a backup, hopefully for his sake. Great kid!!

I'm not surprised that you agree with his post..

Strong am, below average accuracy, and forced the ball way too often; even when he had time. He may get drafted very late, but I don't see him sticking. I hope he proves me wrong. Good luck young man.

In all fairness the kid didn't get much of a pocket this season with how horrible the line played. Hard to be accurate when your line gets dominated by some random 3 man front..

I didn’t even read any of the responses because I can imagine some of them. He made some bad choices, sure. But our line was absolutely horrible at times and did him no favors at all. This will help him big time in the NFL because he went all season with a short timer In his head to get the ball out...that will be the same in the NFL. Arm wise, he’s got the NFL strength and accuracy. He’s got to keep working on reading defenses and making adjustments and if he can get that down good...I think he could make a great NFL QB for some team. He has all the NFL measurbilties and has the NFL arm. He needs to fix up a few other things and then he will be golden.

Hes very accurate.
He will get a shot no doubt.

I guess we were watching 2 different QBs this year. His accuracy was very suspect IMO. It may have been because he expected to get hit every play that made him throw poor passes when he had time, but he definitely struggled with accuracy even when he wasn't pressured. And his propensity to force the ball to receivers that weren't open was very apparent to me.

Yep, two different QBs

Right now I would rather take Tanner Lee than Baker Mayfield if I'm a GM. Mayfield is Johnny Football/Ryan Leif/Todd Marinovich all over again I'm afraid but watch some knucklehead take him. The stupid stuff that kid continues to do is amazing but yet somebody will take him in the first couple of rounds. FWIW, Lee was quoted in an article today saying that Frost told him if he stayed he would be the guy and we would roll from there. Frost knows how valuable that game experience would be and the idea that he isn't going to tailor his offense (play calling more specifically) for his QBs is just stupid. Tom did it. Frost will do it.

This is sort of a trait that exists in a WCO. Throws in to tight spaces is a necessary downside to the horizontal passing game that exists within that system.

You don't have to modify your offense. You modify your play calling. Lee could run a zone read option play for you and get you 5-8 yards but Frost doesn't call all that many QB runs anyway. Lee could have run this year at times but that wasn't the way he was coached. He isn't going to take it 80 but he can get you positive yards IF he's coached to do it.
