I watched the foster farm bowl today on the B10 network and I was surprised how much talent was on that team compared to what we have going into this season. Made me realize that a 6-6 or 7-5 season is a solid win in 2018. I know coaching and buy in will make a big difference, but watching that game made me realize that the people saying we are a year or 2 away have a good point. We finished with 6 wins that season with below average coaching and little buy in, but we had solid talent. For example:
Collins DT
Valentine DT
Carter TE
Westy WR
Morgan WR - young talent
Bando at LB - pretty solid
Drew at Kicker
Cockrell - DB was pretty solid
Gerry - DB
Jano - FB
Kalu - DB
Lewis - OL
Gates - OL was playing better then
McMullen - DL solid
Piersen-el - solid
Reeves - OL
And dare I say Tommy Armstrong who was great in that game.
A lot of our best players today at a young age.
To me it seems like we had a lot more NFL talent on that team than we do today. I know we have much better coaching, much better S/C and better buy in today, but it was a reality check for me that we have a ways to go before we can win the west and B10 watching that game.
I have no doubt Frost will get us there, but will take some time to rebuild in my opinion. GBR
