You hear a lot about how much stronger and bigger the team is. Reports that they are in better condition. What I’ve seen so far this year though is a lack of team speed. We may be bigger, not sure we are faster. While some might say that you can’t teach speed, I would argue you can make athletes quicker and faster overall. I wonder how much speed training is part of the strength and conditioning program. My perspective and experience comes from many years in coaching and participating in track and field. Maybe that doesn’t translate to football, but sure seems like it should. Thoughts?
