It's not going to to be a one man position we'll need depth with Khalil Davis and hopefully true Freshman Damion Daniels.
Yes I am concerned. I am assuming that they will rotate at least 3 guys this year. If not we are in trouble.

The big guys coming in look good and have the size if that is any consolation. Hope at least one of them is ready to swim.
Saw him pushed around too much last year. I have little confidence he is that much better this year

No. He's from Gretna and that means he is infallible and shall not be questioned.

Yeah, i doubt he will be awesome but i also dont think he will be a liability. Remember he will be another year older and stronger. Keep the LBs free kid.

The only thing a 3-4 NG is supposed to do is occupy space. There's no real glory in the position. If he makes some plays in the backfield then great, but just because he isn't putting up the numbers doesn't mean he isn't doing his job in this defense
The ideal nose in a 3-4 is shorter than Mick but meaty and stocky. If Mick can play with the proper leverage, he is a rather massive human being and should occupy the space required. He has to an obstacle that must be gone around. Young, Weber, Carlos and Freedom are there to to make sure no good running lanes exist between the tackles.

Why is it that everyone thinks the NT is a space occupier and just any big body can do that? It takes strength, quickness, great hands and feet to play that position successfully. They have to withstand a double team most of the time and still hold their ground whether it is one or two gap responsibilities. You don't do that just by occupying space. I would be surprised to see a freshmen earn early playing time at NT. If he does, he is one heck of a man. And yes, Stoltenberg wasn't all that impressive at the point of attack last year at times so it naturally would make you wonder. The coaches will figure this out or the middle will be tasty for opposing teams. If any team has three guys who can hold up in the middle they are loaded.

- Coach P loves D- line rotation and this has been confirmed, even from
player comments. This is where we are headed, I can assume issues that
lessened this will be resolved.
- Players at this age can gain size and strength completely changing their
game, especially at a new position. Glover was a reserve DT as a soph.
and a monster MG dominating CFB the next..There is hope and one of our
top two will get the job done to a higher level with these coaches - maybe
both to some extent. Its about block destruction, Mr Davis will learn, an
exceptional young physical talent and bright. Go for the ball carrier, they
will chase you.

expect personal packages to be a part of this.

maintain, this is going to create even more pressure on an offense.

I'm not concerned in the least bit with Stoltenberg inside, 6'6 315lbs, he will be more than ok with his athleticism. I'm most worried about Freedom, I would rather see Khalil start there instead.
Share your thoughts, as a fan base we may be a bit traumatized , but I believe there are new sheriffs in town. Results oriented , and players will play and be moved around to get them. I know, been said before.
There are different levels of effectiveness. If your minimum standard is All-American, Stolt probably will be a failure at NT. If your minimum standard is NT play equal to the play of the Center last year, Stolt will exceed your expectations. I tend to believe that Stolt will be serviceable in the middle. He will have some good plays and some plays where he gets beat like a drum.
Exactly. Perhaps we will all be surprised and Stolt will mature into a real beast in the middle. We also have some good young talent at that spot, so as long as Stolt does a decent job he can buy the young guys some time and we can work them into the rotation gradually.
He looks like Big John Stud in the middle of all these little kids if that means anything. This was just last week.
Yeah, my ONLY concern with him playing NT is that he's about 3-4 inches taller than he should be. Why is that a problem? Leverage. If his center of gravity is higher (because taller, duh), and he's constantly taking double teams, as an NT should, it could be possible that he could be thrown off balance more easily than a guy with a stockier frame. That's why you want an ideal NT to be like 6'1"-6'3".
From what I know, the NT is a weird role in the sense that yeah, it's thankless and all you are really doing is forcing a double-team by eating up two linemen, but on the other hand, you have to be incredibly big, strong, and VERY quick to be able to get the jump on two offensive linemen who are right around your size.
I think Mick will be serviceable, and he may even surprise us and do quite well, but I may be being too optimistic. Damion Daniels, on the other hand, looks like he is tailor-made for being a hoss NT.

Concerned about his ability to play with good leverage and lateral movement. Maybe he's gained enough weight and strength to do the job in the middle? Guess we'll see.

I'm not worried. Played OK at times as a sophomore. I think his best years are ahead of him. I think they are going to ask him to tie up blockers and just make a mess of things while holding his ground. His biggest issue as a sophomore was disengaging from blockers, which isn't the biggest priority for a two gap nose.
I somewhat agree with this. However, I would never say that it is not a priority for a defensive lineman, regardless of position, to have issues with disengaging from blocks. If you cannot disengage from blocks consistently, even as a nose tackle, you will tend to get pushed out of the zone of influence you are trying to occupy. You also do prefer if you have a NT with a good burst, who can get past a blocker, and occasionally put some pressure on the QB right up the gut. Not his primary responsibility for sure, but to say that an inability to disengage from blocks is not a big deal for a NT is a bit of an over statement I think.
