His middle 4 paragraphs is very telling. I could be reading too much into it or trying to read between the lines but from Mark Bankers words it seems the program is run by DVD &/or Billy D more than Mike Riley.

I think S.E. is trying to run the program like an NFL team with a President & GM having all the power and coach just coaching. College programs have not been run like that for the most part in the past. Yes all programs have an assistant AD of football operations but it seems with DVD & Billy D its a lot more hands on or hands in and less Head Coach. I could be all wet, what do you all get from it? Also i am NOT saying they are wrong in doing it this way. Its just an observation!! http://journalstar.com/sports/huske...b1.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

I like Banker and wish him the best. He is old school and frank. How was it supposed to be done when he is traveling other than the phone? Business is business. For not signing anybody and having OSU and Iowa happen his departure was only a matter of time.

And yes Billy Devaney was brought in for a reason.

Who the hell cares? Grow the hell up. They are running things like a business. Heaven forbid. Maybe we need to bring back the "Nebraska way" of covering up felonies, rampant steroids, and abusing Women

Well if you read my OP youll see where i said, " nothing wrong with this way" just a question. Stop taking everything so personal and blowing it up to something i never said. Cool the heck out!!!

That's the reason I rarely come to these board's anymore, too many sarcastic know-it-all's that are out to push agenda's instead just having good discussion and banter about Husker football

The paranoia is strong with 463. very easily butt hurt.
As for your topic, i dunno but ive never really liked sipple. Im sure Riley got at least some advice on this or talked to someone before doing it. How much that other person said we will probably never know, and i doubt banker knows.

To answer the posters original post, I think the landscape of football has changed dramatically. I think Nebraska and SE are trying to get out infront of it before it engulfs the program, if it hasn't happened already. AD departments need to view things from up above. See trends, pioneer change, react accordingly. they communicate with the coaches but leave the x's and o's alone. I think TO got passed by on these matters and now SE is trying to play a little catch up.

Watch out, you'll be called a bloner, thumbsucker, or knuckle dragger
All 3 apply. Posting history matters. Yes, I laugh at how much the whining and bitching about how someone (who the people bitching wanted fired) got fired. Talk about butthurt.
If you guys were the least bit consistent, you would be demanding that the rest of the staff who never coached a 3-4 should be fired. Which should start with the untouchable Parella. But since he played here that kind of reach in logic is not gonna happen.
You can claim you want the program to move forward and succeed, or you can keep looking for meaningless crap to complain about. We already know which one you will choose.

Don't understand the quote from banker, referring to the diassapointing loss Tennessee "I just don't understand it, we had such great momentum going into that game".... Really? Oh my.

I think he was referring to how he thought the team was practicing leading up to the game. Not the last half of the season thud.

What are you talking about? Im asking a question about Billy D & Dan Van De Riet. What is your problem??

I don't have a problem. Sure, you asked a question but you also answered that same question later in the OP. I find it laughable anyone would suggest DVD is running things. DVD does a lot for the program but making (coaching) decisions for Riley to implement isn't one of them.

My take is that after Monday nights national championship game that a realization went on with all 3 about Nebraska's defense and what needs to occur to be competitive. That a switch to a 3/4 was needed. If you fire someone, you already have someone in mind. When Arkansas came into the picture MR realized he had to act quickly and that Mark was on the road and wouldn't be back in the office in time to talk to him directly. If he waited that he might lose out on the person he wanted. I look at this decision for the change coming from Riley himself but in consultation with others.

I wish Parella would have played and taken notes. You must be more of an insider and omnipotent. The coaches are obviously being evaluated. They have been coaching and team coaching vs the 3-4 at times. Some may have played in it and/or against it...... How many coaches should we go through every six weeks; if the most self assured on this board were able to fire them? Sure you contribute a lot; but situations are complicated and there are various powers and opinions, even within the program. Not meant as an attack; its easy to be reactive.
