The Hogeyes are about to land former 4* OT Trevor Elbert, who had offers from Bama, OSU, Texas and Oklahoma....as a walk on.

The Iowa Hogeyes won the 2016 Joe Moore Award for College Football's Most Outstanding Offensive Line Unit over Clemson and Alabama. No doubt, this was a determining factor in the Elbert decision.

So a team that returns four OL starters and eight of their ten in their two deeps, adds a talent like this as a walk on, can we compete with that in a brand new 3-4 defense?

GBR

Our OL will be a huge question mark all season but by the time we get to Iowa who knows what the season will have done to both teams. I am worried about being able to score consistently against anyone

Elbert has been plagued by injuries, correct? Will he get better, who knows?

If Nebraska can hang with Wisconsin (like they did last year) I don't see why they can't hang with Iowa.

Bucky is pretending to be a Nebraska fan now? I liked him better when he had boobies in his sig pic.

I look forward to the day when we surpass Iowa in the BIG pecking order and can truly talk smack without sounding like K State or CU fan back in the 90s when they would cluck about Nebraska

just ignore the Iowa troll
I too look forward to that. Then maybe we don't have to read all of your veiled shots against the huskers. It happens all the time from you, and it does get quite old.

I am going to kick in on the positive side. The Ne D is going to kick in as a statistical storm. Iowa will be later in the year and less surprised ; but more so when they actually bang up against it. We are going to be very physical and disruptive up front ( and good coaching ) . From there going back, we may be even better.
Our special teams are set to be dramatically improved this year. So poorly ranked last year, I believe many on this board ( homers and real ) and even players , could have improved us a lot - but better coaching is joining in. Some of the categories are literally going to jump over half or more of the CFB world ( we were at the bottom ). We do have the player talent, and enough " new sheriff " coaching talent.
Iowa has developed talent on the O line.
We have talent on the O-line and with all the questions thrown their way; the good character is going to show in the results of their efforts. Coach Cav may have got caught up in his semantics; but its results oriented now and pressure from the top, with a lot of peer coaching assistance IMO> GBR.

This. I have been bullish on the 2017 Huskers and continue to be so. You could also add to your list, vastly improved QB play.

Nebraska is going to surprise a lot of people this year

then perhaps we should start beating Iowa so snowflake fans don't have to get uptight if they can't handle the facts of where the program is at present - or maybe let's not all have a nice time laughing about how pathetic Iowa is when they physically beat us up to the point where the team gave up last year.

I am ready to for it be evident on the field that we are better than Iowa so all these pithy little comments about them become funny. Frankly after after the 40-10 beating they put on us last year it is kind of sad.

Again, reminds of K state fans that would come around in the 90s talking snack after yet another beat down by Nebraska.

Sadly, you're right about this. What I struggle with in regards to your posts is that you quite frequently will say things with kind of a negative tilt about the huskers. Maybe it's just how I read it.

It seems like we are seeing an upgrade in coaching and recruiting… Hopefully in the near future, I will be able to appreciate your posts more. I do appreciate your humor when you bring it in.

I try not to be too negative ...but for me personally I just cringe when we are bashing a team that crushed us las year - I guess I should just let it go

I too feel that things are on the upswing ... But we have said the same thing with each successive coaching change. I really like
Riley and want him to succeed but am just in "show me, don't tell me" mode at present.

Best

I'm sure I'm as much at fault. I want so desperately to see a winner on the field... I tend to go the other way and spin it too positively in spite of the evidence that would contradict it.

Ready for the coaches to show us as well, just not sure how confident I am. I feel like we will be improved across the board, but not as confident as I normally am. Been burned too many times the last 15 years.

Always ask yourself, what is the smallest room on the Iowa campus?

The trophy room.
They sure can list all of Nebraska's and even the years when they criticize about our ancient history that Iowa has never known. Old maids, always shopping for wedding dresses but never a groom at the alter. Got to love 'em.

I am still trying to reconcile Iowa and Tenn beatings with our offensive line being adequate to allow our skill position weapons to be effective. Maybe Cav has it in him. He is on the hot seat no doubt.

What was our QB play like in those games?

If defense isn't afraid of the QB they can really go after the run... which is exactly what they did. With improved QB play those teams would have played us differently, in my opinion.

Why would NU be worried about anything Iowa does?? It's Iowa!

Everything is better with boobies

Everything is better with boobies except for Iowa.
I made a wrong turn and got lost in Iowa.
I ended up in a place called Council Bluffs.
There were unbridled fat girl boobs all over that place.

Free swinging fat girl boobs are not ideal, but they are usually worth at least a glance.
But not there.
No.

Now all Iowa has to hope for is us having a starting QB that can barely walk, and a backup QB that has a broken hand.

Saw that one of their DB had 3 interceptions. That's high quality QB play.

Yeah, that just shows how bad recruiting has gotten at Iowa. Adding a walk-on 4 star who isn't cleared to play at his current school ties for the second highest rated recruit in Captain Kirks last 2 recruiting classes. If it wasn't for the legacy 5 Star Epenesa and local Iowa boy 4 Star Wirfs, then Elbert would be the highest rated prospect they have brought on campus the last 2 years. Even Captain Kirk's Smoke and Mirror show with lackadaisical recruiting is going to catch up with them soon. They aren't bringing in the level of athletes that others B1G schools are. Nobody on their roster is of the athletic level of Tyjon Lindsey, Bookie, Lamar Jackson,......... Riley is restocking our barren cupboards with talented athletes while Lefrentz is playing with fire hoping he can continue to develop recruits who he competes with MAC school to get. Good coaching can only take you so far, you need the athletes. As Barry Switzer said about the secret to winning "it's not the X's and O's, it's the Jimmies and Joes".
