Stanley Morgan

Did a quick Google search and found this:

2014 Scouting Report on Quincy E.

"Even though he does have soft hands, he’ll frustrate you by dropping too many easy passes. Tends to lose focus and may be thinking more about getting upfield than securing the catch. A lot of his drops occurred on third down, making them even more painful."

From the comments section from fans below the article:

"I like that he is tough. I don't like the drops. In the 4th quarter and down by 3 or 7 points and you drop a key 3rd down pass. Sorry but I say pass on him. Maybe as an UDFA."

Stanley M. drops a lot of passes too. Spend more time catching balls daily to maybe help fix the issue. Some WRs fix it, others don't.

While Stanley has been drop-prone, I think he could end up a fifth rounder or better if he enters the draft this year. He’s a physical blocker downfield and has shown ability to maintain blocks. NFL teams hold on to drop-prone receivers so long as they contribute on offense more often than they inhibit it (i.e. Amari Cooper, Demaryius Thomas, Mike Evans, Odell Beckham, Brandon Marshall, etc).

FWIW in the only game Stan didn’t play, TL threw for 109 yards (vs. Rutgers). TL’s other seadon-lows came against NW (225) and in two quarters at Minnesota (174). In the B1G, Morgan is top 5 statistically in receptions, yards, and TDs. He’s a key part of our offense’s success (or lack there-of), and you can bet his future agent will be letting every NFL team interested in Stan know that.

That being said, he may also just be a bright spot on a mediocre offense, but I really don’t think that’s the case. I’d consider us fortunate to see him in the scarlet and cream in 2018. Hopefully he clicks with the next coach/staff.

Stanley drops way more balls than Q did and that's kind of my point. Q made it in spite of that because scouts liked his combination of size, speed, attitude and special teams play. He put some vicious tackles on video for the scouts. Stanley...not so much. Stanley has the same speed weighing 30 lbs less and doesn't play kick coverage. He may get a FA tryout but he would have to really impress in camp to make a practice squad.

Stan has as many great catches as he has drops. The Drops issue Stan has can be fixed. He might not be an elite type NFL WR, but he is a great overall prospect. Dudes got size, his very strong for a WR (which will help a lot in the NFL), has good enough speed and can block good enough. No idea why a few on this board thinks he’s not a good NFL WR over a few drops he has. Again, he’s got as many one handed and greats catches as he does drops. That’s an issue that can be fixed and NFL coaches know this.
Agreed, a few drops here and there isn't necessarily a hard problem to fix going from college to NFL. He's made quite a few NFL type plays and is one of the best receivers in the Big 10. I think for sure he'll get drafted.

Is he a better overall prospect than Westerkamp? I don't think so and where did Westerkamp get drafted?

He can benefit from another year and from another coach.

I like Stanley but I can't make a case that he gets drafted at all, let alone before the 6th round. I think KW would tell him the same if he's being honest. Saw his tweet and I was like, "Dude you think you don't wanna learn ONE new offense next year? Have fun learning one a WEEK bouncing from camp to camp as a free agent and trying to stick on a roster..."

One reason why I wish SF would just announce and get on with it. Giving 20 year old kids time to sit and be mad that their position coach got fired isn't helping your cause. You need to let the next guy meet them and be like, "Hey man, it's gonna be ok. I'm gonna make you better, too, we're still gonna have pass plays, just hit the weights and don't worry. Look at JD and Tyjon and McQuitty, you just gonna leave them? Bail on your brothers for an outside shot at a little money or are you gonna stay for a good shot at big money?"

I think Stanley projects exponentially better at the next level than westerkamp did. We’ll see someday.

Not an NFL receiver. It never ceases to amaze me with how inflated our opinions are of some of our players. SM has very inconsistent hands and mental lapses. SM has average speed for a WR and isn't all that big = maybe he gets a free agent tryout.
I disagree. Morgan most definitely has NFL talent.

34 wide receivers were taken in the 2016 NFL draft - 34. So, it is your opinion that the B10 leader in receiving yards is not among the top 30 or so college WRs?

I remember checking that draft last year after watching KC WR Tyreek Hill play. Turns out Hill was drafted in the 5th rd. NFL is OK with small receivers. The drops will be an issue but he will get drafted.

Stanley could get drafted. But to use Tyreek Hill as an example? Uh no. TOTALLY different recievers. T. Hill is fast as holy f@#$ and could make you miss a tackle in a phone booth.

That's for sure. The point I was making is that WR size is not a determining factor for NFL teams. Yeah, should have used another player to make the case.

Would he leave after this season? I would think it would be a strong possibility since his stock likely won't rise when the next coach comes in with a run-only offense to appease an angry fanbase.
I'm not saying he should, or would claim something asinine like the kids should "get out of Lincoln", but his situation is interesting. I think mama demands he gets his degree.
Nothing will be decided until he meets with the new staff.

No matter what I or any of us think, he will get drafted at some point. Maybe last day and last pick but I bet he does. I’m sure we ALL will agree here, I hope he comes back next year. He will be a monster under Frost. I’m loving the idea of Speilman and Lindsey in Frosts system. Scary good and scary fast. Still sucks Riley and Langs didn’t get Lindsey involved more like they did Speilman. These two will scare defenses in the future if used correctly.

Ive wondered the same. His early drops could be an issue with NFL teams. Not sure of his graduation status, but would a grad transfer be an option? I have no idea how he feels about this staff, school, fans, etc. Depending on the new hire, does he go elsewhere to show his skills?

Sh't....this is something that I would like to have known....

Better than most think as a NFL player. He should stay at Nebraska another year, either way. His draft stock will go up with a year of Frost S&C.

And he will get plenty of targets under the new regime.

GBR
or he can go get drafted and paid right now and get better NFL coaching in the NFL. and probably make more money in the long run by leaving early.
he won't be a 1st round pick no matter when he leaves

i just finished watching the "Carriker Chronicles". was he just using Spielman as an example? Or, is he considering transferring?

He made a couple tweets, that people have interpreted that way. Personally, I don't see him choosing to sit out a year, when he will be such a focal point, in such an exciting offense.

He is a waaaay better prospect except in the football catching, downfield blocking, and route running departments. Stanley may be a little faster and stronger, but Westy has some attributes that Morgan needs to improve upon, in my non-scientific opinion.

Westy was a good route runner with incredible hands. But he lacked speed, size and strength. Stanley has all of that. His ceiling has always been higher.
