After a healthy dose of college basketball. It's time to talk some football.

Notes and Quotes:

- Mitch Sherman, Short but smart answer from Stanley Morgan when asked if WRs rate as Nebraska's best position group: "Definitely."

- Ryker Fyfe on POB, "He's the best QB I've seen come through here as a freshman. And he should still be in high school.

- Keith Williams says Jordan Westerkamp is out for the rest of spring practice but will definitely be ready for the season.

- Ryan Mix, POB hype train was full steam today. Langsdorf: "For 8 days as a true freshman he's been really good. Knowledgable, asks great questions."

- Langsdorf said there is a chance that O’Brien could push for that role this fall, and said that no roles have been decided or a depth chart assembled behind Armstrong. All of Nebraska’s quarterbacks have yet to be tested in significant live scrimmage work, though that could come during Saturday’s practice.

- Jacob Padilla, impressed with Nebraska TE GA Tavita Thompson. Clear communicator, knows what he wants, has a good philosophy.

More Notes:

- Mitch Sherman, Nebraska offensive coordinator Danny Langsdorf says senior QB Tommy Armstrong Jr. has been better this spring at limiting mistakes. "He's done a better job of taking care of the ball," Langsdorf said. Armstrong, who threw a career-high 16 interceptions in 2015, has worked more efficiently and made quicker decisions in practice, the coach said.

Brian Christopherson,

- Morgan said true freshman Derrion Grim is a very good athlete. "He just has to get the plays down and he'll be all right."

- For the first time this spring, Nebraska worked on blitz pickup, an area where the Nebraska coaches are watching Mikale Wilbon closely.

- Running backs coach Reggie Davis said Wilbon did well in that regard on Thursday, but wanted to further evaluate the film.

- Left tackle Nick Gates said he gives some thanks to family for his nasty streak on the field. His older brother, in particular. "He kind of beat it into me when I was younger."

- We'll give quote of the day to Morgan. He was asked how he came back from his groin injury that kept him out a few spring practices.

"Like a G," he said.

It really is......I don't know what happened, starting with the Michigan state game 9 INTS in 3 games. He was fine up til then.
I started rewatching the games from the bowl backward and just finished Michigan St. It wasn't just the INTs, it was the situations when they happened and how they happened. If you are 3rd and 12 at the 50 and toss it 40 yards and the CB makes an acrobatic pick, oh well, you saved the punter the trouble of coming on the field. However, when you are in the red zone threatening to increase your lead against a top 10 team and you throw it straight to a linebacker standing on the goal line, thereby changing the momentum of the game, that is a whole different kettle of fish. I had forgotten that before the winning touchdown against MSU TA would have thrown another pick except the corner dropped the ball. I just can't believe if that pattern continues HCMR and Langs won't pull him. What with "the survey" and last year's record, etc., Riley knows if we give away games his seat will go from barely warm to uncomfortably warm. I'm hoping TA's hard work since the Iowa game makes those breakdowns a distant memory from 2015.

I honestly think TA never saw that guy because he is too short. There was an angle that showed an Offensive lineman in between him and the Linebacker. I could be wrong, but I think sometimes his line of vision is blocked too.

I think Tommy could have played in the Purdue game, but that really was a live audition for Fyfe. He didn't travel with the team either and then there was the whole rape allegation incident at his home. Wasn't the best of times for him to be sure..

He was trying to do too much, and he was being put in situations that left the door wide open for that. He's got that Jay Cutler to his game, no matter how many time you tell him to throw it away, he thinks he can make the play so he slings it. If he'd do that with his LEGS, I would love it.

Last year was like watching Pinkel coach Brad Smith. You went, "Holy shit, if they'd call the right plays for this kid they could really contend for something..."

I think you're correct. I noticed that several times but other times it was just TA trying to be a hero. When he had KB he would ignore the double coverage and chuck it up for grabs. He was better when KB was out. Last year JW was his go to guy and he would ignore other wide open guys 10-15 yards down the field to throw it to him. Personally I agree with Steve Taylor's assessment that he doesn't think TA will ever change in that regard.
