There isn't much to talk about football wise, so the press chose to get their bee in a bonnet over the spring game. So AD needs to talk about things that are very far from decided. If the event is televised and I don't have pressing things to do, I'll check it out and see what is going on. I'm sure they will do some scrimmaging at least. It’s just going to be a glorified practice I guess..
I heard that talking point that Dannon gave out to the media mentioned a lot this week. If either of those two was worth a damn, then how come they've recruited over both of them with multiple transfers?Meh, I have gone to a few Spring games over the years and had fun, but I would rather have had Blye Hill and Demetrius Bell available for last season than watch a glorified scrimmage.

It's super weak that a team that hasn't finished even close to the top half of there league since forever and had 10 kicks blocked last year doesn't want to scrimmage four months before the first game because of injury risk.
Wait, do you think they don’t want to scrimmage? Where are you getting that idea? Admittedly I haven’t seen much about this, so maybe it’s out there, but that would be crazy. I can see them saying we don’t want to publicize it I guess, but surely they aren’t gonna stop scrimmaging…I heard that talking point that Dannon gave out to the media mentioned a lot this week. Are they going live at ANY time this spring? Yes? Then sell tickets to that. I want to watch football. Period. And more importantly, I want to actually see with my own two eyes things like- they go live practicing punt returns and other things that they struggled with last year.Wait, do you think they don’t want to scrimmage? I said the same thing regarding tickets to the public. Too many fans invested, take advantage of it.Are they going live at ANY time this spring? Yes? Then sell tickets to that. Good points. But go 1st team vs. 3rd team for all I care. I'm not looking to evaluate anything. I just want to see it. I want to watch the RBs breaking tackles or that new transfer LB make a great tackle in space.I get the entertainment aspect and really don't think there's any more risk for injury than any other practice. But seeing things with your own eyes and trying to get almost anything meaningful out of it as it applies to actual football is futile in my opinion. When one side looks good, the other side, by default, looks bad. Things are always watered down, as they should be in a public display like that. Green jerseys, players sitting out that might otherwise play, etc. Just way too many asterisks by all of it to base anything on. Plus, we're always undefeated after the spring game.
The problem nobody can grasp is that nobody has a full roster for spring ball. People are always recovering from off season surgery and if you have a minor tweak you are held out. Not necessarily this year but going forward with the105 . Not all recruits are early enrollment players. Throw that with the spring injury issue if it’s a higher number you really will be limited by numbers in the spring.Good points. But go 1st team vs. 3rd team for all I care. This is all pretty ridiculous really. The idea that you cannot go live 11 on 11 with a roster of 105 four months ahead of the season. Do they go live? Then sell tickets. Otherwise, say that we're a finesse program that doesn't go live. Or we do go live but fans are not welcome to watch it.

If the argument is injuries, well that is just lame. Clearly they don't want anyone to get hurt and the fans don't want that eitherGood points. But go 1st team vs. 3rd team for all I care. I'm not trying to alarm anyway. I was asking a legit question. Do they do live scrimmaging? I would hope that they do. I was not suggesting anything. When NU is pushing out the reminders of those two backups getting hurt in the Spring Game last year, it makes me wonder what their point is.You seemed to suggest they were not going to scrimmage at all in spring ball, which is what caught my eye. Unless you saw it talked about somewhere there is no possible way they don’t scrimmage. Why even suggest that? That’s what I took issue with I guess.
100% agreedWhen NU is pushing out the reminders of those two backups getting hurt in the Spring Game last year, it makes me wonder what their point is.
lol dipshit Nebraska is not canceling spring camp . They will hold a couple scrimmages. The 15th and final practice ( spring game usually) will likely be just another practice instead of a somewhat live game . Let’s see what they announce it’s going to be until we start the tar and feather talk .NFL only gets 90 to start each training camp
there's really no defending this move by the football program
it's bitch made every way you slice it
....but they're not cancelling the spring gameThe 15th and final practice ( spring game usually) will likely be just another practice instead of a somewhat live game
But they do practice 11 on 11 live at some point, right? At some point, they have to go live trying to block in space so that they WRs don't look ridiculous while blocking. Lots of other examples. The problem nobody can grasp is that nobody has a full roster for spring ball. @Big bo fan is quite possibly the dimmest bulb to ever access the internet. But they do practice 11 on 11 live at some point, right? At some point, they have to go live trying to block in space so that they WRs don't look ridiculous while blocking. Lots of other examples.
Yes they will go live all spring . My point is they may not be able to divide up into a Red/white team equally for a “real game”. And that’s all Troy Dannen said it will not be a “ real game”But they do practice 11 on 11 live at some point, right? it was never an equal divide, moronYes they will go live all spring . My point is they may not be able to divide up into a Red/white team equally for a “real game”. And that’s all Troy Dannen said it will not be a “ real game”
It's kinda like that game of Kerplunk. Remove a stick here or there and if you're not careful, marbles start to drop. We're lucky to have the great fan support continuing on despite bad decisions made by the powers that be.The last thing, I think, that you want to do is do anything that slowly starts to change the support from the fans.
As I said, I just want to watch them go live. If the coaches don't like the real game format, then just say that.Yes they will go live all spring . I am with you dingle. I love the Spring game and for the first time in 8 years I will be there for it this year.I love it. It’s fun to see young players and transfers for the first time in a scrimmage
You keep asking this question… there is absolutely no way practice is reduced to just drills for the entirety of spring. I’m a little surprised that you think this could actually be the case. But they do practice 11 on 11 live at some point, right? At some point, they have to go live trying to block in space so that they WRs don't look ridiculous while blocking. Lots of other examples.
If the argument is injuries, well that is just lame. Clearly they don't want anyone to get hurt and the fans don't want that either
But, this has become the 8th home game. It is a great time the weather is usually awesome, the college girls are usually dressed in almost nothing (when I went to UNL they dressed like Kurt Cobain).
It is or it has become an event. It is an event for the fans, for the players, for kids, for the local economy.
The last thing, I think, that you want to do is do anything that slowly starts to change the support from the fans.
When I was at UNL the spring game was not really a big deal and now look at it, it is packed and Lincoln is rocking that day. I just can't see why they would want to lose that.
I think you said it your post but the idea that you can't play a game with 105 players is ****ing nuts.
HS teams do their "soap scrimmage" with way less players.
the college girls are usually dressed in almost nothing
That’s exactly what Troy said I am sure Rhule will go into more detail. You and King monkey are acting like we are going helmets and shorts all fk spring. As I said, I just want to watch them go live. If the coaches don't like the real game format, then just say that.
