Spring Game

I think he's referencing the concern that's being tossed around on social media that the Spring Game is an audition for other teams to tamper and snag good players via the portal
That makes sense. Maybe it's time to let that tradition die too.

I've attended the spring game for many years. Trust me when I say that, as a result of bland play calling, green jerseys, extensive playing time for guys who will never see a snap during the season and mismatches between the red and white teams, any scouts there from other teams are much more likely to fall asleep from boredom than to discover some gems to pursue through the portal.

The bottom line to me is that if they cannot hold a freaking scrimmage four months before the first game, then they must not practice actual football in the fall either. The special teams play certainly looks like they don't practice that. They may never actually go live for anything on special teams from what it looks like to me. And our tackling and lack thereof indicates we aren't going live much either.

I actually love how inconsequential the spring game is. Super cheap to drag everybody that wants to go. We can stay, leave early, whatever. Party atmosphere like a game day and see people I only see there. I look forward to seeing the latest highly touted stud players but the scrimmage is pretty vanilla so my impression good or bad is usually meaningless.

Who was it who wouldn't let BTN televise one of the Spring Games? Was that Pelini?

This is why I like the Spring Game. Football fix in April. Have some drinks, hang out and watch a little ball. I would throw in good for recruiting.

Meh, I have gone to a few Spring games over the years and had fun, but I would rather have had Blye Hill and Demetrius Bell available for last season than watch a glorified scrimmage.

Injuries happen in practice scrimmages whether there’s fans watching or not.

While I agree about having Bell/Hill, players have also missed the season from injuries sustained in practices in the Spring. Do we do away with spring ball all together? Players get injured in fall camp. They get injured on a Tuesday practice during the season. You're never going to fully prevent injuries.

Why don't we have a regional preseason scrimmage in August against another program.

They could televise those things.

Why would they cancel?
You npw have 105 players. Some very highly paid players that you really do not need to play in a game like that.

Also getting 2 full OL and DL to play a whole game on each side is not near as easy with the 105 restrictions.

Is it really worth it? No. Does Nebraska make more than most places? Yes, but they can still do something fan related like an open practice but I think Spring games will be a thing of the past soon.

No reason to risk injury to paid players. Its where we are now with college football.

It's like the NFL still have a flag football game for the pro bowl. Stupid idea that no one watches that risks injury to valuable players. It's just a bad idea for a game of any kind.

The spring scrimmage is a valuable teaching tool for new players. There’s little to no difference in the chance of injury between this scrimmage and the scrimmage the week before.
