Spring Game Format Announced

Not only are YOU Correct; but its not what football fans are used to watching and some convoluted scoring system . I have organized a dozen people to be there in support and help fill the stands; but we will watch the clock race and they can get us out of there. Players need game experience; so what if mainly young guys finish up, then its like an easy regular game and we get to see them.
I believe if this keeps up; many will stop coming; I believe I will cut back on organizing a bigger group. Its a lot of effort to get there for a cliff notes version; usually you see more from the stands and relay your own evaluation of some plays to your buddies, even if its replayed on TV. Now you'll be afraid to blink and where is the time to explain things or exchange views; with your kids and friends in the stands................. So 80 minutes and max 30 at halftime. Maybe another 10 screwing around = 2 hours ; so done by three -that is going to be a big surprise for a lot of people. A lot of travel time and money; and they want to be sure to sell a lot of tickets, so they are telling us when ; how many hours prior ? So those who watch it on TV at 4, can feel pretty smart; oh wait, many will be back home and can catch what raced by; maybe even have a tv commercial to allow a restroom break, or grab a pop; or explain a screen play. I thought Peline started it with the second half thing; because he just didn't care enough or couldn't be bothered.

I flew back to Omaha every spring for a number of years to visit my aging mother and go to the game. She passed, so now I go back only a couple times a year to see family and don't go back in the spring. I think if the Spring Game were a football game with normal clock rules i might be more inclined to come back that week, maybe every other year. I think Riley needs to settle in with the format he wants and announce it well in advance so out of towners can make an informed decision. The whole running some drills thing Bo did didn't do much for me. I recall Osborne didn't do kickoffs on his spring games, just started from the 20, but it was a game in every other way.

I think the format is fine. Some people just bitch to bitch I guess. It's Nebraska football in the spring, even if it was for a half hour I would be pumped.
I think part of the reason for the format the way it is, is do to some injuries and lack of depth at certain positions. From a coaching standpoint you learn more about your players when the offense goes up against the best defense as oppose to simply splitting the team in half and having your 1s and 2s mixed together. With the depth issues at some positions like DT I can see why they may be inclined to go this route.
I'm shocked people let things like this upset them. Do they even have enough depth at DT or CB to field two teams?
I would rather watch 1 v 1s and 2 v 2s and let some younger guys get a shot to jump up. I think it would be fun to see POB get a drive against the 1 Defense, rather than a draft where you mix and match who plays with who.

From some recent media comments by staff and coaches, it sounds like they see the Spring Game as a huge opportunity to showcase the Husker environment. That makes sense but what environment are they showcasing, one with 60 or 70 thousand cheering fans or one with 60 or 70 thousand people sitting on their hands while trying to figure out what they should be excited about?
I'll watch the spring practice game. It may be more like a practice with officials, but it's a first chance to see some new faces before fall ball.
I will be more interested in watching 1st against 1st, and seeing who substitutes on the 1st strings. Unless a player totally dominates against the 2nd stringers, we may just be watching the guys that won't play in the fall. All in all, it will give the coaching staff an idea of what needs to be worked on, it will give me a chance to see the Huskers, so it's good.

I'd like to see it more like a pro game with no clock stop on 1st downs. Add No timeouts, no reviews and no commercials would get that format done In 2-2 1/2 hours. You don't want one of those 4 hour marathons for a practice game.
Don't think fans would be standing up and cheering during a Spring Game no matter the format. Who the heck would you be cheering far/against?
The tunnel walk will be exciting and after that it's just watching a glorified practice. Just like every other spring practice at every other school.
Ohio state doing four 10 minute quarters it looks like. Coaches are on the field. 1s vs 1s instead of drafting teams. No touching #1 qb. Redoing special teams plays. No punt returns allowed.
How in the world does Urban think he's going to compete for anything or recruit if he doesn't follow normal game situations????
