Spring football

Really? Where's he gonna go? NFL isn't hiring him back. He's making top 10 coaching salary in the country here. He's in the top 2 conferences. We're a blue blood with as good or better resources/facilities as anywhere in college football. I don't see a lot of room for upward trajectory there. Pedo State is the only one I can think of just for the alma mater factor. Maybe a lateral move that's easier to recruit to I guess? SEC team with better weather? Although his history is three years and jump at a better offer, we're not Temple or Baylor and again, the phone ain't ringing from the NFL. I just don't see it.
I think the fishbowl at Nebraska is very unique and focused, more so than even other high profile places.

If Matt gets us up to 9+ wins, he can say he was successful in the rebuild and other teams indeed will want him.

He's great at speaking, and they will look at what he did at Nebraska with zero recruiting base and know that with 'their' recruiting base, he could be even more successful. They will also look at how he has navigated the NIL, which is another plus for coach Rhule.

Additionally, Matt will look at another school and see a better recruiting base + less critical fishbowl + better NIL money + similar coaching money = overall better quality of life and probably easier results.

I don't think he stays, now that he knows what it's really like with the fan base.

it's just my opinion.

He knew what it was really like before he took the job. Fans are critical. Donors and fans want to win. This is not unique to NU football.

I agree with you he isn’t going anywhere for quite some time if he keeps improving this program he has every thing he needs to win here and winning helps recruiting..

Winning at a blue blood program you can be set for life here.

Sorry, but you're wrong on that. All big programs with this kind of money on the line are a fishbowl. We're not unique in that at all. People like to say we are, because it's a convenient place to point the finger when things don't go well. But it's just as bad or worse in many many places. Pay just the slightest attention to some other big programs around the country and you'll see it.

The only difference is that Lincoln/Omaha is all about the Huskers.

That MIGHT be a little different in some other blue blood type places.

Like I can't imagine the fishbowl being the same at USC but I am sure NU and Bama are the same fishbowl.

100% The NFL isn’t going to come calling for a 10-4 or 10-3 season. Rhule is gonna have to win the B1G next year and/or win a game or 2 in CFB playoffs. Frankly, nobody (IMO) is gonna come calling for Rhule for a single 10-3 season, college or pro.

If we have teams wanting to hire Rhule away in 2026… Whoa Betty! 2025 is gonna be a lot of fun 😀

Totally disagree. Who is gonna want Rhule for producing one iowa like 9-4 season? He’s not moving to a lesser job, and I don’t think the likes of the NFL or any top college program is gonna be interested or impressed by a single 9-4 season.

Can you imagine if a school the likes of OSU, Michigan, Alabama, USC, whoever hired Matt Rhule off of a single 9-4 season? The fan outrage would be palpable. I really can’t see your situation no matter how hard I to try squint and suspend my disbelief.

USC is a different kind of fishbowl. Fewer numbers of fans/alumn, but higher dollars from those few. There are varying degrees all over the place, meddling fans/alumn in all shapes and sizes. Oregon is another example. Faaaarrr fewer meddling fans/alumn than us but there's one big one who gets a voice in all of it and runs everything. Similar situation at Houston. All fishbowls, only difference is the number and power of the eyes looking in. Hell, I could even make an argument for Nebraska being less of a fishbowl than a lot of places. Given how nice and patient we've been lately with coaches underperforming.

If he goes 10-3 and the Ohio State job opens up, maybe they would give him serious consideration. Check out their president. It’s highly unlikely that both of those things happen this year though.

I did not even think about Oregon but that is totally way less less of a fishbowl. Good call.

Dude… Bro… there is literally no time line where we go 10-3 next year and OSU comes calling for Rhule. I don’t care if they fire Ryan Day for cause this summer for banging the AD’s wife. There is no situation in which OSU tries hire Rhule after next season that doesn’t involve a B1G championship and/or a playoff run. 0% chance.

The President doesn’t hire athletic coaches the AD does Einstein.

So, I started this post about some player groups of interest and some new position coaches I'm excited about and then this post goes in a totally different direction about Sat & Rhule. I'm interested in what is about to take place this spring and who will take control of certain positions. Is anyone still interested about the players who may take charge and move to the top of the depth charts, I know I am. jmo

We know the names we know, but what we don't know so much is which of the younger guys are poised to make a push for a depth chart appearance.
What we know on offense: QB - Raiola; RB - EJ, Ives; TE - Lindenmyer, HH; WR - Barney, Hunter, Key, Gilmore; OL - Gottula, Evans, Spindler, Luto, Pritchett. What we don't know on offense: Backup QB, is Parker ready to contribute at RB, who are the next three at WR, are Teddy and Corcoran old and in the way, are any young guys ready to compete at OL.
What we know on defense: DL - Cam L, Jeudy, RVP; Jack - MaGahee, McCullough; LB - Watson-Trent, Shavers, Buddha Wright; CB - Ceyair Wright, Andrew Marshall; Safety - Hartzog, Buford, Singleton. What we don't know on defense: Nwaneri apparently looks incredible as an off the bus player, can he start to translate that talent on the field? Will Gabe Moore be ready to get reps? Does Davis continue his trajectory? Which of the younger big guys will emerge to compete for the two-deep? What young LBs are ready to compete? Who starts opposite Ceyair Wright? Do they move Singleton to Rover?
Do any true freshman make an immediate push for playing time?

I’m very much optimistic on defense despite losing Ty and Polar Bear..

Jeudy and RVP were capable backups and I know the coaches like RVP's upside. Nwaneri has a big, tall frame, but his current weight is a bit of a mystery and it's questionable whether he is ready. Get 20 pounds on him and it's a different story. Gabe Moore is a third year guy, but hasn't played, so he is purely a potential type player. Cam L and Davis have played a bit. Right now I'd say the starters are Cam L, Jeudy and RVP, with Davis, Gabe Moore and Jaylen George as backups.
Others
Sua - right size, hasn't played much
Goldman - we are hearing his name
Parrott - very much the right size for NT, other than that a question mark
Hoffken - apparently has a 6-11 wingspan

Then give us more TV cuts of QBs throwing passes, WRs an TEs catching passes, our top RBs running against our top D. For heaven's sake, give us something for a fix for our addiction to get us by until the end of August.
That's what I came here to ask - will we get highlight clips from practice, or are we too paranoid?

In the past rosters use to list some players height & weight a little generously. Was that to strike fear in our opponents? Maybe now the rosters will underestimate a players height & weight to keep the poachers away. 😂

We have some offensive linemen with playing experience but many with little. I looked at our OL roster and found it to be pretty good but still with questions as to what position on the OL they will play. The biggest question would be the center position right now and then who's going to play the tackle position.

I have a list of players who may play the tackle and center and guard positions, but they could be way off, here are some players I've looked at and maybe they are correct but may also be incorrect.

Tackles: Lutovsky, Prochazka, Pritchett, Corcoran, Seagren
Guards: Evans, Spindler, Sledge, Gottula, Brix, Knaak
Center: Torres, Pyle, Maciejezak, Evans may slide into this position then who takes his guard position

I realize some of these are way off, but I would love to hear what others think and i don't mind being corrected at all, it's all for fun. jmo

I wasn't talking about THIS years schedule. The one that starts in 5 months. I was talking about NEXT years schedule (2026). Then again, I don't really give a shit anyway.
People deliberately misrepresenting statements to suit their own agendas... you don't say?

Putative starters are Gottula, Lutovsky and Evans, who were starting at the end of the season with Evans starting the entire year. In addition,Spindler and Pritchett were starters at ND and Bama, respectively. I think Lutovsky has been a guard in his career at NU.

Been years since we had a real coach. With .500 Matt, don't get your hopes up. However, It is Matt's 3rd year and magic will happen. That is what we have heard for three straight years. Magic year 3. Apparently that is why he was hired. Prove it, Matt Hopefully he does prove it with the easiest schedule in 29 years. Will he ? You know how this will play out ( well, some of you know.) 1-2 years, back to square one. Hopefully the dipshit administration will learn at some point. Been waiting 24 years, and I am guessing I will wait 1-2 years more before anything resembling a football team will be on the field. Oh well.
well, frost last sighting the team won 3 games, HC rhule's first year 5 w's, HC rhule's second year 7 w's....so what we see here is an upward trajectory...I reckon round 9 wins this year...I know that isn't dr.tom with all his long time assistants at their peak...but it's a solid start...
I'd suggest you fret less and enjoy the ride up, grasshopper...
also, if you can, you might want to donate to nil, preferably a 1700+ yard rb with break away speed...
