Speed. Speed. Speed.

This does seem like a bit of an odd take considering that in 2016 we were one overtime touchdown away from the Big10 Championship game.

I still think it takes 3-5 years to do a complete re-build and I will certainly give Frost a lot of leeway but I think under the right circumstances we can be fairly competitive in year 2 (win the West).

You are entitled to your opinion on this post and to the state of affairs within the program.

I just don't happen to agree with you on either one of them.
Just keep lowering expectations then there's no way Frost can fail to meet them.

At present, Wisconsin has one four star recruit and 5 5.7 3*s in a class of 19. We have 6 recruits in our current class that meet or exceed that. We have possible high ranking recruits in Martinez, Crocker, Carson, Banks and some others.

According to Rivals... Of the 10 players set to visit between now and the end of the weekend, seven are rated 5.7 or higher. I think we close strong.

Edit: One of those visiting is Tate WIlderman who is a four star and already committed. So its really 6 of the 9.

It will also take a new DC as well. He really stinks. I think frost was amazing but the defensive coach is terrible. The yards allowed to crap AAC teams is unreal.

People will need to reset their expectations on what good defense is. An offense like Frost's puts a ton of pressure on a defense. They are on the field a TON. you need to look beyond the face value stats. That defense was good enough to go undefeated. My guess is (Like me) most Husker fans watched the last 2 UCF games and are drawing a superficial conclusion that the defense is terrible. I would say (like I had to) take a step back and look at the big picture. With this offense I don't care who you roll out there, yards/points will be allowed by the defense. The thing that helped paint the picture for me was looking at margin of victory.

UCF ranks 3rd with +22.8 in the country, behind only PSU and Bama. (that is not a mark of a terrible defense) To me this becomes very impressive when you consider how the MOV looks without the final 2 games. The UCF defense played very well for a group that had to defend 76 plays/gm

It gets even more impressive when you look at the staggering improvement made in a very short time. 2015 MOV -25.8, 2016 MOV +0.4, 2017 MOV +22.8. (that seems to me to be a sign of incredible coaching, and playing complementary football)

UCF also boasts the #2 Turnover Margin per game at +1.2 - on the back of the #4 overall takeaway/gm at 2.5 (Again... not the mark of a terrible defense)

At the end of the day people will look at it how they chose. I get it. I am a defense guy myself. I LOVE seeing smothering dominant defense. So I will have to keep the big picture in mind as well. What I cannot argue with however is the above stats that to me shows that Chinander's defense is much better than a superficial glance would suggest.

Those turnover stats by themselves win 1-2 games per year. At least.

The oregon philosophy was to build an unstoppable speed offense and get turnovers to accentuate that. Get a huge lead and keep the pressure on and watch teams crack.

It works.

It will work here.

The question is how well it will work -- can we make the playoff etc. -- not if it will work.

Scott will get us back to ten wins a year. The question at that point will be where he peaks and if our fan base is happy with that.

If he peaks and stays solid at about 11 wins for a few years I would say he could be here as long as tom... And at that point we shall see if he can figure out how to get over the hump.

Defensively.. We wont be the mid 90s... What you are looking for is sacks, turnovers, and negative plays in succession.

We want the ball back. Now. If we have enough of those negative and big plays we can beat anybody as our talent matures.

Unfortunately I think Husker fans have already somewhat reset their defensive expectations after the past 15 years...Hopefully we can outscore people. Get enough Ws and NU fans will be fine.

Margin of victory is margin of victory. UCF did not "hope" to score more than the opponent. The consistently and systematically did so enroute to an undefeated season. Some will take a narrow minded view of what "good defense" is. I get that. Hopefully most will looks beyond yards allowed.

MOV
1 Penn State +26.1
2 Alabama +25.0
3 Central FL +22.8
4 Ohio State +22.5
5 Georgia +21.2
6 Wisconsin +20.6
7 Oklahoma +19.9
8 Clemson +19.7
9 Washington +19.4
10 Auburn +17.3

And UCF didn't have the benefit of padding this stat by playing Nebraska, which 3 of the other top 6 did. (I know we held PSU under their average)
