I see we added two more assistants to help coach special teams. I think we have a first rate special teams coaching staff now. I am excited to see what kind of a transformation this brings. I think we will see massive improvement which is probably worth two or three more wins this year over last year. We have a favorable schedule too and I think we only saw a tiny bit of what Holgorsen will do to improve the offense.

I remain worried about both lines. But I don’t know shit about shit. So my worries ain’t worth much. 😂

Anybody here like to be micromanaged? They don't need more coaches. They need the current coaches to do a hell of a lot better job coaching special teams. And let's start practicing full speed (especially in the spring), getting lots of reps and stop embarrassing themselves out there on game day. Special teams play is the easiest indicator of how well a football team is being coached.

I think having three coaches dedicated to fixing our special teams is great. It sends a powerful message that Rhule means business here. We would have won two more games last year (at least) had we played better on special teams. We would have ended the regular season at 8-4, probably ranked, and would have gone to a much better bowl game. Special teams matter big time and last year is a perfect example.

I think we are going to see a huge advance in our special teams this year. I predict it will go from our biggest liability to one of our biggest strengths.

Throwing money at the problem accomplishes nothing on its own. Eckler was a good hire. The big factor will be to change everything. How they practice, how often they practice, the importance that is placed on ST, and the schemes that they use.

There will be improvement because it's impossible to be any worse. Ten kicks blocked? An inability to even return a damn punt? You're seven year senior who averages one yard a return dodges last second out of the way of a punt and you give Iowa the ball at the two yard line? That's the kind of results you only get if you phoned it in last year on special teams. Hell, most teams could skip practicing ST for a month and do better than that.

Hiring more and throwing money at the problem is fine . But cutting dead weight when contracts expire needs to happen as well

Remember Rhule said our special teams performance last year was “not a scheme issue”.
