While we are all fully aware of our special teams woes, this article summed it up nicely as a sobering reminder of the depth of our failures:

A few highlights:
“Nebraska's net punting average of 35.5 yards in 2021 was bottom ten of the FBS (many shanks). Opponents, had a net punt average of 41.51 against the Huskers.”
“There were 12 teams in the FBS last year who had a net of at least 43 yards, led by Rutgers at 45.24 yards. Penn State was second in net punting, Michigan fourth, Illinois 12th, Michigan State 13th.”

27: punt return yards for Nebraska in 2021. The Huskers tried to return punts only 10 times actually. Only two teams in the FBS had fewer yards in this stat this past season.”
+iconic low point of all things football when captain CTB fielded punt causing a safety.

“Nebraska had an incredible nation-leading 620 yards off punt returns in 2014.”
At least three of Husker opponents in 2021 had over 250 yds.

33.3% FGs between 30-49:
It's supposed to be a given that you make field goals inside of 30, though the Huskers missed one of those too in 2021.
What was most alarming, though, was the lack of assurance when Nebraska lined up for those kicks between 30 and 39 yards. The Huskers were just 3-of-7 on those last season, and 0-for-2 between 40 and 49.”
“45 kickers in the FBS who hit at least 80 percent of their field goals and 18 that connected above 85 percent – that's counting all kicks like chip shots too. And 69 kickers made at least 75 percent.”

“15.58 per-yard return average. That was 121st in the country.”

We can then add the blocked punt against Iowa, the kick return against Wisky, and the punt return against Mich. St.
Iowa acknowledged they saw the opportunity by watching Nebraska film and predicted it would happen. Reminds me of frosh David Bell scoring winning reverse TD against us and telling post game interviewer that they knew that play would work based on film study.

Sorry to ruin anyone’s weekend with the kick to balls memories.
I’m gonna go vomit. There are no words to describe spending millions on coaches for those results.

Busch time.

Well right after the Iowa game, Frost said, “Our special teams have to get better.”

Nothing gets by his hawkish eye for detail. Winking
A very astute observation on his part! Wink! Winkl
