South Alabama "speed"

so fast they scored 33 on gardner-webb, a team that went 4-8 last year. we should pummel this team.

Even the OL?

If the running game gets going in the first half and the OL gels, then yes. Maybe they play a couple more series with a backup QB. But I would love to see the second string OL get a bunch of snaps.

I'd love to see some backups in the second half too. After last week's close game, I could stand to watch the Huskers lay a beat down on someone. I have a feeling this year could feature a lot of tight games, similar to Bo's 2012 "Cardiac Cornhuskers" team that had like 9 comeback wins.

I did a little digging on South Alabama and yes, they appear to be a must-thump.

Given the amount of work needed on the OL, I'd be cautious about fans swinging the other way. You might consider the quality of opponent if this "gelling" suddenly takes place. We may come out a week later looking not as bad as last week, but not as good as South Bama. Or we could really take a huge step and suddenly have a monster top unit.

Asking us husker fans not to overreact is like asking Captain Kirk not to hit that. It's gonna happen, just have to accept it!

I'm not saying South Alabama is fast, but one time they hit a line drive and got knocked out rounding second base! *rimshot*

So, are they legitimately fast or is this speed I'm hearing about a case of talking up an overmatched opponent situation?

It would be my guess that it is talking up, but also a description of their style of play. I don't know that the media or the coaches truly believe that across the top 22 south bama is significantly faster across the board than a decently equipped division one team.

We've been able to run with pac12 and sec schools in recent years so I highly doubt we will be just blown off the field

That makes sense, and I bet you're right. By the way; How Dare You Use Reason To Answer My Question. Do Better Next Time!

While I think we will take out frustration on South Alabama, they are hardly a team to overlook. They were a bowl team last year and when UAB(also was bowl eligible) disbanded, a lot of those kids transferred to USA. Basically you took the better half of two so-so teams...Still not on our level, but could be if we overlook them

They're a completely different team from a year ago. THey graduated 9 multiple year starters from their defense and have a new QB. Last week vs. Gardner-Webb, (one of the worst full scholarship programs in FCS) South Alabama struggled to move the football consistently.

Their passing game has major issues, and they will not present Nebraska with the necessary matchup issues to exploit Husker weaknesses in the secondary.

I think Nebraska wins this game in the 45-7 range and fans will overreact the other way after the defense plays well.

As for the OP's comments about "speed," I think anyone who was bringing it up was joking about the McNeese State excuse makers from last season.

I do think South Alabama has some good running backs and the Huskers will need to be disciplined up front. They have a very similar offensive scheme to Minnesota.

I am not worried about this game whatsoever. We will steamroll them, as we should.

Again, we will not know anything more about this team until da U.

They did graduate a bunch of starters, but essentially teplaced with UAB starters. The new qb actually came from UAB and has the same o coordinator from UAB...that is the one worry i have. He wasn't a terrible qb...obviously, i expect to win by a ton, but if we let them hang around...mcneese state (who ended up being terrible last year), it could spell trouble

YOu should trade that worry and reserve it for the Southern Miss Game. It comes after the Miami game, before conference play, and it will be an 11 AM kick.

Southern Alabama has already played a game which means Nebraska has seen film, and they're coming to Lincoln to play under the lights. It will not be close, and they aren't going to surprise Nebraska with anything.
