To be fair....I LIKE Fred...I know you think I don't....but three new coaches better than the ones before just made his job harder...

We’re gonna be terrible next year. Fred needs to bring in 5-7 portal additions to rebuild this roster and ideally field a NCAA caliber team. Fred went 0-4 last year in the portal, in attempt to compliment our foundational pieces, Williams and Gary. Anyone who thinks he’s gonna be able to totally retool this roster and field a NCAA caliber team is on some good drugs.

We at least had a modicum of momentum last year and Fred went a big fat 0-4 in the portal. We’re probably gonna be dead last in the B1G next year….

Fran got clobbered for his recruiting, which certainly wasn't great. And yet there are four ex-Hawkeyes in the portal right now who could walk right into the Huskers' 2025-26 starting lineup. Let that sink in.
Well let’s be honest Williams and Gary are graduating none of them would beat them out if they weren’t.
Their point guard isn’t anything we should consider..

We got outspent on all the additions Fred tried to bring in last year. NU BB NIL is not good. We need to spend if we want to be competitive. Fred could have done better but let's not pretend we had more than Williams and Gary.

You have no idea if they didn’t come because of money

Watching tournament makes me puke seeing how bad our recruiting has been

Regarding Williams and Gary, who said otherwise? And I didn’t say I wanted all four Iowa transfers, but as long as we’re “being honest,” who are the players currently on the 25-26 roster who would keep those four off the floor?

I remember listening to the radio when Chuck Jura, Tom Scantlebury and Leroy Chalk played. I believed we were building something. We were competitive and fun to listen to on the broadcast.

Nearly 60 years later we just plain suck, have nothing building and have just plain sucked for decades. Hard to believe. Also hard to believe is that I still follow them and care. Sad is probably more like it on both previous sentences.

On to next year.......

Sad but true. Sometimes you wonder, can we get any real talent in the program that can compete against everyone else? If Colorado State can get talent to compete why can’t we?

In CSU's case, it was more about developing guys who weren't highly recruited. Nique Clifford was a decent player at Colorado, but he was micromanaged by Tad Boyle and never would have blossomed the way he did under Medved.

But the thing with CSU….they always seem to be competitive. Even when Miles was there, they had teams that competed at a high level. Remember when Miles was there and they were winning with all those local Nebraska kids?

Tonje, too

insanely raw when he went to CSU, now an All-American

will be interesting to see if they elevate Ali Farokhmanesh or if Medved can convince him to come to MN with him.

Forgive my ignorance, but do the Husker hoopsters do anything like the Volleyball team by way of taking their game on the road to Nebraska venues & high school gyms? If they do I guess I'm ignorant of it.

We have to do SOMETHING to at least keep some of our best bball players in-state. The Volleyball team wrote the book on how to do this and create state love and a desire to play for the local team.

The VB team has also been among the best in the nation for a long time. That might help their recruiting.

Exactly playing in Central City or Ord or anywhere wouldn’t matter if the VB wasn’t top 3 in the country.

He is close to the bottom. What difference does it make?

We obviously do not care about being competitive in BB.

Getting Mast back is a nice "addition." Honest to god I thought Sam was a senior, so we get him back. Yay.

It's going to be a total crapshoot what the team looks like next season. As usual it will all come down to whether we can get 3 guys to shoot well from 3. We barely had one at any given time this year. Fred need to put a "do not recruit" stamp on anyone in the portal that doesn't have a track record of making 3's. I'm interested to see if Janowski stays after doing nothing but draining 3 after 3 after 3 in warmups all season.

We are going in the exact wrong direction. But hey we get Fred for 2 more years thanks to his ridiculous extension.

No inside info whatsoever, but the program's abysmal record of retaining high school recruits over the last 2 coaching regimes makes me assume he's more likely to leave than stay.

What is the story on why Janowski didn't play this year? He was a stud in high school and would have seemed to give us an outside shooting threat that we were lacking.

Good question. Maybe he is an old school student of the game and believes he needed a year to learn and develop. However, given the team's clear need for shooters this year, it makes one wonder if he elected to preserve eligibility for a possible transfer.

I see that his sister committed to Wisconsin, hopefully Nick isn't going to transfer back home to play for the Badgers

My theory is this. Fred, for whatever reason, wanted to remain loyal to Worster and Ulis which I think is noble. But he is getting paid big bucks to win. Our lack of perimeter shooting cost us this year year in some games. Though burning someone’s redshirt is rare it is not unheard of in college hoops. The fact he didn’t, shows me he won’t do whatever it takes to be a consistent winner.

There has to be a similar rule to football where a guy can play X games and still preserve his redshirt, right?

The crazy thing about Janowski is that usually you can say, "well, he's a freshman.... he needs a year to get ready physically." Janowski is built like a brick shithouse. Looks more like a linebacker than a shooting guard. I figured he didn't play because he's mostly playing the same role as Williams and he would've gotten zero minutes. Or... if you're cynical... you'd say it's because he'd take minutes from Sam. He's not a point guard.

I'm also interested to see if Justin Bolis ever contributes or if he transfers. He's an athletic freak at 6'8" that looks like he's running around the court on a set of springs. Not sure if he's advanced enough as a basketball player to contribute but he's the type of athlete that Fred really hasn't had, outside of Gary maybe.

Did he miss or did the lack of NIL money miss? I guess if Howard was Will Wade's first hire, that says something about his abilities.

Lack of NIL money is a problem for us for sure, but I remember Hoiberg saying that Howard had a lot of recruiting connections, particularly in the south, that would help us bring in high-level recruits. I think the only good player he brought in was Juwan Gary....and it was Hoiberg's former assistant Charlie Henry (who coached Gary at Alabama) that recommended he consider Nebraska, so I don't know how much credit Howard gets for that.

But he must have some good connections down south if Wade hired him. I just remember being very unimpressed with his resumé when we hired him, as he had really only coached at lower level programs like South Alabama and Troy his whole career.

How do you know our NIL is lacking? Maybe players are wanting more than money.

I get it, I am just pointing out that I can have connections to the state of Texas and the city of Houston, but if I am coaching at A&M Corpus Christie I am probably not getting the same recruits as Baylor or Tech, let alone Texas, Houston or A&M. Having contacts in the south helps get his foot in the door, but if you don't have the NIL or the W/L record that some of these high level recruits. I am sure Hoiberg thought he was going to be more successful and then the recruits would follow.
