couple things,
1. I questioned why no Nebraska reporters asked rhule why dana was in Lincoln....????
2. if dana was onboard last January, we would have probably won Illinois and ucla possibly usc (although the refs are probably usc fans like mich and osu)
3. the fact that rhule asked dana in january means he was not just thinking bout his buddy sat. (more like thats all he had at the time)
4. the feild goal and kicking has come around, someone added 1+1 = barney should return kicks (so besides tackling on kickoffs and punts is foley still in the dunce corner? or is rhule shopping?)
5. the secondary guy apparently has a nfl deal that takes time to grasp so he will be around. ((need 1 lock down db from portal)
6. the lb coach will be round (need portal help/speed)
7. the dline coach will be round (need dl from portal to play next to van poppel guy)
8. all things considered rhule is doing ok and we should'nt complain too much (1 to 2 days after a defeat is ok)
9. beat iowa... they got a good rb, need to shut that down...and attack what ever weak spot we can find on Iowa's d...

Timing was bad for Dana to come in January fresh into the unemployment line plus buyout from Houston was an issue also needing time to decompress. He wasn't ready, but now he is and good for us!

If Rhule wanted Dana in January what stopped him?

If Dana was here he was obviously open to working here. I'm not sure what point is being presented.

the points is if rhule got dana here to be oc, and dana "said" he did'nt want to at the time, he wanted a break.
1. rhule knew the oc position was a problem area and was looking to improve it, so it wasen't like that it was just about being buddies with sat.
2. the media wiffed, for not making it clear why dana was here

if I had a dime every time I heard "buddy hire" on here, I have raiola handing off to genty and passing to hunter. rhule was in the nfl and not making a squad in college that had a football and will travel like cig..so he slapped together what he could and came to NU. and he did pretty good on defense.

I believe Dana stated he wasn't ready and was purposely dabbling in the analyst role so he could take some time off and do other things, however through doing this with TCU during the season he realized it wasn't the right gig and he wanted to make a difference on game day and call the shots. And as he stated, grew bored during the time off. Maybe I read between the lines too much, but that was my take from listening to Dana on the topic.

Holgorsen was probably getting tired of his wife nagging him with all the honey-do lists he'd been putting off for the last 13 years. He knew with the holidays coming up, that shit was only gonna get worse. So, he finished hanging the mini blinds in the guest room and called Rhule
that would have been helpful to know,

sipple - "hey coach, pretty rough year, turned the ball over every other play...heard dana holgerson was in town, what exactly was he here for?"
rhule - "I offered him the oc job, and he said his wife had him busy for a year"

see how easy that would of been? instead of thinking our offense would exist in eternity with no identity..while raiola transfers...
plus just the thought of holgerson being a analyst for saterfeild bugged me also..just did'nt add up..

there is no point being made.

Dana knew the offensive staff was full of shitters, likely told Rhule as much, and Rhule didn't want to kick his buddies/kids of his buddies to the curb so he settled for hiring another one of his shit buddies in Glenn Thomas.

then when it became clear that Rhule's own job was being jeopardized, he finally swallowed his pride and hired Dana.

the whole "eh the timing wasn't right" and "i just needed to focus on myself" angle is obviously PR talk intended to not make Rhule look like an idiot.

So you’re saying Dans is a liar. Alrighty then.

I think it was the position he eventually hired Glen Thomas for

Pretty sure the offer was co-oc as underling to Satterfield. And it's not that surprising that DH turned it down as that doesn't sound appealing after having been a head coach for the last decade-plus.
He was offered Glen Thomas position. But Dana was tired and said he needed a break. That’s why he never took any full time position at the time.

If that’s he case why did he take the job now? Same staff. You literally need to go play In heavy traffic.

To be fair we don't know what changed but obviously something did.

Was it the offer, was it the specifics, or was it the timing? Could have been any but if Sat was such an issue at the beginning of the season why was the answer a CO-OC and not a replacement? Why was Sat still calling plays?

It's a curious question worth asking.

Because the situation is different. He feels ready to take on more after some time off. He’s empowered to fix things that seem obvious for a short term gig, and it’s fun. Maybe it opens bigger opportunities long term.

Rhule doesn't fire people mid-season, but can & has taken advantage of new rules hiring the replacement while keeping the outgoing coach until the end of the season. It helps everyone involved, and I'm damn glad we did it. I hope it helps Satt in his future.

He realized being an analyst how much he needed to call plays. Which makes sense, I'm sure he had been calling plays since 2008 when he left tech. Also an alpha move to quit a job because you need to be in control of playcalling.

No matter why this hire didn’t happen in January, we better hope Rhule has a better backup plan for possible OC’s because Dana will have a lot of options for 2025. Apparently Rhule knew by the end of last season he needed an upgrade but Dana was his only option better than Satt? Hard to believe for a guy who should have an extensive Rolodex.

I don’t believe Holgerson wants to return to being a head coach but really enjoys being on the sideline calling plays and enjoying diagramming plays.

He has interest in staying here with a 5* QB and I believe Nebraska will pay him handsomely..

Working with Dana and watching how he does things no doubt would help Satt if he ever calls plays again. That said, play calling to some degree is a talent and I'm not sure Satt has that talent. I think he's a bright guy but man you have to be able to quickly make up your mind for a given down and distance versus what you think you'll see from the defense. That takes a special cat to be able to process information that quickly.

He's making millions from Houston's buyout and can be an OC without the crap of being a head coach. He's got several years to make up his mind if he wants to be a head coach again. That said IF someone comes calling offering him an 8 year multimillion dollar contract that would be tough to turn down. It's crazy but if our offense looks this good again against Iowa, maybe we need to think long and hard about 2 million per year guaranteed for 5 years to match up with Rhule's contract. Pay him 1.2 now and with a retention bonus after the Houston buyout ends going to 2 million the next year. Makes me sick to my stomach to even think it...
