So is everyone off the "Lee going pro" bandwagon?

Gee, I am humbled by your putdown and will try to consult you in the future before making any more dumb posts. I didn't realize Phil Savage, whoever that is, had decided the matter.
Cool your jets, it's in a previous post. Forgive me if I put more stock in the QB guru than hddude.

I know, silly of me.

But I would be totally shocked if he is a high NFL draft choice at the end of this year. He has done nothing on game days to justify such speculation.

Lol Patrick Mahomes was a top 10 pick and you would be surprised if Lee is a high draft pick? Lee has everything NFL teams are looking for. He will be a high draft pick whether he has a good year or not.

I think he has a good season and turns pro. From the NFL prospective, conventional wisdom will be that a 6th year of college ball isn't probably going to make Lee a better prospect. In fact, sometimes age can work against you in the draft (especially in the NBA). If Lee has a good season, he'll turn pro and try to work himself up the draft charts. The huge thing working in Lee's favor is that he is playing in a pro style system and would be a draftable fit for pretty much every team in the league. But next year's draft is a good year for QBs so it's certainly possible that Lee turns pro and doesn't get drafted until Day two or three.

Good point on the 6th year of college thing, but he's only played 2 years so far, this will be his 3rd.

No comparison yet with Leaf. Ryan Leaf lead his team to a Rose bowl.

Most people on here were just regurgitating stuff that pro scouts and QB coaches were saying and choosing to believe it. Nothing wrong with that.

Not really a comparison to Ryan Leaf. It was more the situation. I remember watching a few games when Leaf was at WSt. The announcers wouldn't quit talking about how great he was during the games. Outside the games, any commentary on Leaf was how he had "it".

In no way, shape, or form am I saying that TLee is the next Ryan Leaf. Situationally, I see a similarity on how they are (were) being projected/hyped.

In my first post, I wasn't mocking, merely pointing out that which other people brought here from pro connected people. Just my opinion, I can't form a "good" reason for why he would want to stay for another year. 5th year in college. Transferred (i.e. cares more about football than a degree from a certain school).

Bad year, one and done (for all the wrong reasons).

Average year or good year, one and done, he'll go pro imo. He's hands-down picked as the starter, it's his 5th year, why would I expect him to have a bad year.

I'd agree, but they lobbied for that extra year for a reason

I still don't understand the Leaf comparison but whatever.

My point is that it wasn't average Nebraska fan saying he has all the tools etc etc. it was NFL personnel people, highly though of QB coaches and others.

Leaf had a big arm was 6'5 and threw 4000 yards in 410 attempts with 34 TDs and only 11 picks his junior year. Yes he only completed 55% that year but his team was 10-2 and was 26 yards away from beating Michigan. The next year Wash St was back to 3-8.

Some of the completion % was on the offensive system. They averaged 10 yards per attempt and 17.5 per completion.

For comparison Sean Mannion had a high number of attempts in 2011 for Mike Riley (473) he completed 65% for 3300 yards and averaged about 7 yards per attempt and 11 per completion. That doesn't even take into consideration the 18 picks and only 16 TDs.

Obviously completion pct matters but in this case I think it was more because of the number or deep passes rather than Leaf's physical tools.

Trubinsky was criticized for only starting one season. Heard it said that NFL execs prefer at least two years of starting experience. This will be Lee's third year starting so he'll have plenty of game experience.

If Lee goes pro early, it will be about going through the process-- impressing people with his arm skills and knowledge, moving up the charts.

At the end of the season, if Tanner Lee turns pro then Nebraska finally found the offensive general to run Riley's and Langsdorf's system. More importantly, it will give Gebbia a quicker route to start in 2018 since "everyone" loves the backup quarterbacks more than the starter!! Winking

Who cares if some talking head criticized him. The scouts, the owner, the GM, and probably the coach all said yes to him at #2.

MIke Riley tells a nice story about Phil Savage starting at the 3:10 mark in the video below. It might help answer your question on who Phil Savage is.
