So damned excited for this season.

I love the huskers. I get excited for the start of every season. Mostly bc I get to see them play. I try to not get to emotionally invested for it to be "this is the year" you can only say "next year" so much I will be very happy with 9-10 wins anything more is just gravy. Go big red.

It's been a long time since I've approached every game like it was a must-have. Back in the day, you expected perfection (or close to it).
Now I just hope we improve and don't poop the bed.
Still excited but...

Huskers gonna be damn good this year. I can feel it. We are under the radar and are going to surprise some people.

Bring on the season!

Iam ready for the Huskers. We are going to have a ten day stretch of 100 degree days here in Eastern Washington. When the Huskers begin playing that means cooler weather is sure to follow. GBR!!!

Hard to debate the under the radar comment. Not sure what qualifies as a damn good year anymore, though.

I feel like I have no idea what we have this year. Not that my feelings are always accurate anyway. Seems like a lot is going to depend on how the OL and QB turn out. Hoping for the best.

Same, OP. I think we win the West this year. All of our tough division games are at home and I think Wisky will be meh; I'm not convinced Chyrst is a good coach or recruiter. He fell into some great talent and had some things go his way (NO PI call vs us). The West is for the taking and I hope the players see that and are hungry for it. GBR.

I think the wild card this year is the defense. I think the offense is gonna score points. If Diaco can motivate the troops we may have a special year. OH YEAH!!!

A damn good year is we win the West and are very, very competitive against teams like Ohio State and PSU. There are no blowout losses, we go to a New Year's Day bowl, and our recruiting ends strong.
I expect this. I don't expect that we beat PSU or OSU or win the B1G yet, but have a chance and not get shit pounded.
(One side note about PSU...they were charmed last year. Now I get that you create your own luck / mojo, but they had some offensive streaks last year on broken plays that will be tough to accomplish again. Even though they beat OSU, I dont think they are on OSUs level yet, they arent world beaters. Im not saying they arent good, just not world beaters theyre being hyped to be.)

The only team with clear talent edge is Ohio State, everyone else we should expect to beat, right now I'd say psu is a toss up and Wiscy and iowa won't be easy wins.

I think we have the least depth at DL.
I'm worried about PSU and OSU for sure, but Wiscy and Iowa have never been 'easy wins' since we've gotten to the B1G.

Unfortunately, it is only a matter of time before someone comes along and tells you why you are wrong. :-(
Who cares. This board, like most, has an infestation of people with crappy lives that live to crap on the aspirations of others. They'll put down any good feeling someone else has about the team.

Just ignore the noise, and get ready, because it's almost football time!

This. A thousand times this. That would be the BEST of all possible outcomes, I think. It is unrealistic to think we're good enough to really challenge OSU and PSU to the point that we actually scare them, but if we avoid blow-out losses and play them hard, that's all I need to see.

Sadly, this year is a year where we have high hopes and see a lot of good changes, but where the program is also not realistically at a dominating level yet. That means this season could be anywhere between 7 wins (I think the bare minimum) and 10 wins (probably the best we can hope for).

Just my two cents.

That's exactly how I feel. They're like a better version of Michigan State from a couple of years ago. Good, really really good, but not "Beat the stuffing out of anyone in the country" good.

So people who are skeptical about the likely wins and losses of the football team this year probably are miserable people with miserable lives? Nice stereotyping.

I have a happy life and predict somewhere between 6 and 8 wins for the football team. That will make it about 18 years since our last conference championship but I won't kick the dog. Football season is the best time of year even if we lose to OSU by 30, as we probably will.

A good year for me would mean signs of progress in all aspects of the team especially the O line... Also the recruiting to end strong as well. A 9 win season with all of the above would be acceptable but ten wins would really send a message we are returning.

That's exactly right. Case in point: Penn State. EVERYONE is now just basically assuming they are going to be solid consistently again. Why? They had one kick ass year.

Yes, PSU had a few good breaks last year. If they don't block that FG against OSU then they would not have won the B1G. They also lost to Pitt and got buttwiped by Michigan. So they are beatable.
That said... the fact is they played solid enough defense against OSU to be in a position to win. And they finished by beating a solid Wisky team. Franklin has recruited at an elite talent level. They have some serious athletes on that team. And Beaver Stadium is a very intimidating venue.
Can we beat them? I mean realistically and not just in the "on any given Saturday" sense? Yes. But we will have to play on a very high level to do so.

PSU is a fraud. They got crazy breaks in that OSU game and only had 270 yards of total offense. They then got trounced by Michigan. Pitt was merely average and showed us what PSU is really like.

My thoughts are the same PSU is not some great team they are middle of the pack and certainly beatable. They do have some talent especially on offense but their defense was very suspect last year

I hope so we are overdue for a magical season. My head however sees a new starting QB, new DC and an Oline that has yet to show they can play well an entire year.

Honest question here. When doing comparisons for a new year/team, most, if not all areas of our team are going to be better this year but everyone else was lucky to stay in games or win the ones they did win. They are on their boards and saying that Nebraska won't be any better this year than last and was lucky to win the games they won last year. hmm

I missed the question in this...

I dont care what is said over there.
1. There is no way Tanner Lee is worse than Armstrong. Only stat that will be worse is rushing. Maybe hes not all big ten, but he is no worse and likely better.
2. There is no way our defense is worse. More proven and better D Coordinator, more experienced d line and linebackers.
3. There is no way our O Line or running backs are worse. Much more experience, health, and depth there. Its up to Cav to se how much better we are talking.

Maybe we dont improve enough in the three areas to win a title. But there is no way we end up worse and if we aint worse, we are better. If we are worse, this whole thing is a dumpster fire.
I dont know how this can possibly be argued.

And I dont think anyone is saying Penn State isnt good. The run was charmed, however. They are not world beaters is all. Not on the level of OSU.

At this point, just going into the season, I do not expect to beat them...on paper anyway.
If, however, coming into our game they have some losses (to teams other than top dogs like OSU) and are lowly or unranked, however, I might then fully expect to beat them. I dont see that happening but you never know.
