Appropriate level of play for Smothers. Good luck to him.
So none are P5. Kind of says a lot
CT is P5 but last year and wants to start. The other two are the level they should be - not at N.
Nothing against the kid and I hope he kills it somewhere but he's also a sub .500 QB who won"t run and coming off a bad injury and not exactly the greatest passer. He may have been a D-1 QB at one time...but I wonder if that time has passed. We'll see.
He's missing that unseen quality that some kids have to make plays. He made some plays, but not our way.
Probably a field vision thing. The ability to see the field and process what you see and then act with your talents.

CT is a skilled passer. If he had a good line, Palmer could have had 2k receiving yards and double his TD's.
Meh...he had one of the top receivers in the B1G that made him look good, at times.
Mmmmm some of that relates to fit and need. Smothers no doubt wanted to go someplace where he knew he would be a starter in an offense that fit his skill set. I still think he could win games at a P5 school in a run heavy option offense but his options were no doubt limited. I still think Rhule would have taken him back as a backup QB. Does that make him a P5 QB? We still need a QB for this fall to fill out our depth chart IMO.
Jacksonville State will be a FBS team on July 1st.
A quick look at their roster shows no returning QB with any experience. But they have 4 QBs with single digit uniform numbers so that will be some stiff competition indeed.

That seems like a good fit for Smothers.
Yep. When people say “he’s a skilled passer” I interpret that to mean he has a good arm. Think that’s true. However can not read a defense or see the field. Good passers IMO see the field clearly. Something is usually open. Maybe not what you wanted to do, but it’s what’s there. Even if that means running the ball and sliding need be.
Wow! Smothers turns down visits to Syracuse, West Virginia, Miss St, ND, Cali, Texas A&M to name a few but he is where he “should” be. That’s opportunities in the ACC, SEC, PAC 12, Big 12, & Mr. independent school just in that list.
He is where he is because he chose to be at Jax St over all other suitors.

CT wanted to start and not battle for it for his last year and Smothers made it clear he was getting close to family no matter the conference.
Richard is my unknown because of not getting any PT while at Nebraska.
Sean Callahan is one and has been on 2 different shows talking about all the attention he got. Smothers kept everything tight lipped just like he did in HS and while at Nebraska. I love the kid for being that way. He never made it about him and was always about the team.
(He also mentioned schools like Utah St, Charlotte, Boise St…. FAU was on him & Casey…)
With all the schools on him he took 2 visits.
None of the ones mentioned which is crazy. He visited UAB & JSU- 2 In his home state.
He said he wanted to get closer home and then backed it up with his actions while in the portal.
My family was a big fan throughout his time at Nebraska but the way he handled it and the portal turning down interest from what we call the Big Schools to be close to his family just made us bigger fans.
I am not buying all that interest from a 2nd or 3rd team Qb on a 4-8 team. I agree on Casey he wanted a guaranteed starter in his last year.
The QBs that transferred left a program that hasn’t had a winning season in 5 years. Two are recovering from injury and one never played. I don’t know why anyone would think they would be a draw for higher profile programs.
What level is Jacksonville state ? I’ve heard of Jacksonville, and Jackson state, but never a Jacksonville state. Is this like a Wesleyan or Doane ?
They will be FBS this year they were FSC , they will be the in the same level as Ohio and the G5 school
Wasn’t selling anything buy. Really doesn’t matter if we believe what journalists reports as true or made up info. Fact is as far as Smothers and the interest is that it was reported. They didn’t report nor did I repeat them saying that all the schools wanting was to come in and be the started this Fall.
Syracuse & Miss St have returning starters and ND has Sam Hartman for 1 year. Therefore it appears they were wanting him to come in and be the 2 like he did with us.
People jump to conclusions and also think they are the recruiters for these schools. We have NO idea what/why all those school offered him but fact is they think he a good enough player to put on scholarship which means either they know what they are doing or some folks on here are in the wrong profession.
