SIAP....The 1000 pound Gorilla in the room...

seriously.. most star players have been opting out of bowl games these last few years.. it's another chance to get injured and there is little to gain from it, unless you're a backup player trying to get noticed.

Also, I suppose the trip to Florida/Texas/California would be nice for a kid from Nebraska, but I doubt it means much to the players who are actually from Florida/Texas/California etc.

Now a playoff means something, and ofc the players want to play in that game, but a bowl game these days is kinda for losers.. (think about it from a championship mindset.. that's where all the losers end up.). And if you're a fan looking at this as your super bowl moment or just something meaningful, then I'm sorry, you really are living in another world.. which ironically is where most Nebraska fans are living these days.
The bolded is the entire point. We have 120ish players, but only 22 starters. Next years first time starters are backups this year that could really benefit from the extra bowl practices.

And everybody likes a trip on someone else’s dime.

But that doesn't mean that the opt out players don't still want to play. I would think that most standout football players always like to play another game. They're just acting on the advice that they are being given.

i don't think it's a huge weight on anyone except the head coach, and maybe some fans..

if I'm a player, I dgaf about any bowl game. $.02
There’s definitely some pressure on the players. It’s totally unnecessary if you look at just this team and this season, but the reality is that talk about making or missing a bowl game has been there all year. The constant countdown to six wins has been driving me crazy. Even my girlfriend made a comment when we took the lead against Ohio State: "How cool would it be if this is the win that makes you bowl eligible?" I held it together, but inside, I was thinking, "If we win this game, that’s what you’re focused on?" The entire program will feel much different when we get that 6th win, but also immediately focus on winning every game thereafter.

"maybe some fans" ??????? I think every single Nebraska fan cares about making a bowl game, with the apparent exception being you.

Saying you dgaf about making a bowl is like a 40 year old virgin saying he doesn't care about getting laid. Nebraska's bowl drought is like a concrete block hanging around everyone's neck. Playing in the Pinstripe Bowl would be a very welcome slump-buster.

Also, NU fans will travel in hordes to whatever game we get. I know Ill be there. Its a good chance for our fans to show some of these empty bowl game stadiums what they have been missing with all our sucking.

- ReliaQuest Bowl vs SEC
- Duke's Mayo Bowl vs ACC
- Music City Bowl vs SEC
- Pinstripe Bowl vs ACC
- Guaranteed Rate Bowl vs Big 12
- Quick Lane Bowl vs MAC

some good locales (Tampa, Charlotte, Nashville, PHX), some bad ones (NYC, Detroit)

Which makes it almost exactly the same, with regard to ratios. Considering there are 11 playoff spots open for 67 teams - essentially 1 in 6 teams get into the playoff. 1 in 5.3 get into the NCAA tourney.
Eat an apple than eat an orange than determine how eating it is different than the other biting into it..

I don't see many of these seniors opting out. Maybe a transfer reciever but many of these guys want this one badly. Too much losing and they want to go out winning. This isn't a case of top draft picks having a disappointing season. Win 2 or 3 more and they may ALL play.
Hope you are right but it’s been so long since we were in a bowl that opting out was rare and NIL didn’t exist😀

When you bring numbers as the foundation of them being apples and oranges then don’t be bummed when the actual numbers show it’s basically the difference of a honey crisp apple and an envy apple.

Re-read what you wrote.. see all the hype and pressure is coming from the fans and media too. We are our own worst enemy it seems.

I think a lot of the vibe left after the Illinois loss..

I bet that, should they beat UCLA this weekend, the locker room will probably feel like a morgue, wouldn’t you agree? These guys don’t care about bowl games.

In fact, that’s probably why they are losing, so they don’t have to have all those extra practices…

Really ? So if you were a player what would you be GAF about ? Do you really think these players DGAF about being bowl eligible ? I believe you're wrong on that.

Because we weren’t going undefeated? Nobody ever thought we were going undefeated - neither the fans, players or coaches.

For sure from the fans and media. We won't let it go and act like we are cursed. The reality is the majority of this team has only missed one bowl game.

A similar vibe happens whenever we get a top 25 matchup.

We don’t really have any “star” players

Pinstripe Bowl?

If and when NU qualifies for a bowl. What ever bowl has a realistic opportunity to get NU will be salivating to throw an invite out. This is a fan base starved of a bowl season since 2016. They know the fans will show up.
