Only reasons why I'm not on the "kick MW off the team" is because he wasnt on the team when he did it and it sounds like the coaches (at least) have known about this incident since Fall 2018.

It'd be interesting (and bad) if the coaches / University knew about this incident early fall, like prior to school starting.
I wrote in a different post why Im pretty certain the coaches would not have known any details about this.
Legally, they shouldnt have.
I cant re post it, no time, but theres no way they knew much about this.

So we can probably assume that it is way higher since most kids won't answer that honestly and a lot of kids simply won't even take a survey. I would be more than comfortable to say 50% of girls...and 70% of guys (well...at least they are trying but probably get shot down a lot)
Or we could probably assume that it is way less since kids won't answer it honestly. "Yeah I'll be cool and answer yes even though I haven't."

Except it wasn't a photo of kids just playing in the underwear being silly. It was a video of a girl who didnt send him the video herself, he kept it for multiple years, then had the gaul to send it back to her years later.

I'm not saying he should be labeled a sex offender either and probably not kicked off the team either or even suspended (if everything currently said is true & no new offenses arise), but let's not pretend this is equal to the 2 examples you just listed.

I will say I believe he should definitely do some volunteering at some kind of women's organization or something.

I agree he should most definitely get punished. He broke the law. My thing is he didn't have the video because little kids turn him on. In the case of the 45 year old, that is the only reason he has them. The only reason this is a Child porn case is because MO sent it a few months after he turned 18. If he had done it a few months prior, it would have been frowned on in the eyes of the law. He would have probably been charged with revenge porn but not the child porn. I think many here and across the country are getting caught up the "child porn" charge and thinking he is some sleazy pedophile. He is an uncompassionate, heartless ass but that is about it.

Maybe...but who are they getting cred from? These are pretty much anonymous surveys, it isn't like they come into class and ask for a show of hands.

If it was face to face with people watching the answers...you are totally correct that there would be tons of lying.

The athletic department's statement said they were aware last fall that charges might be filed against him in California and police wanted to interview him. I find it hard to believe our coaches just brushed that aside and didn't investigate further as to what those charges would be about. If they did, that was stupid of them. You always want to get out ahead of these things. I'm guessing our coaches knew a lot more than the athletic department is letting on.

I get that line of thinking, but is it really any different than getting caught drinking at a party a month before turning 21 and getting hit with an MIP? Or getting pulled over for speeding a month before you turn 16 and getting busted for driving without a license? We can always make an excuse for someone being within a few months of a date, but the fact is we have dates and thresholds. I really don't care what the punishment is, I am just tired of everyone finding a reason to excuse the behavior or blame everyone and everything except Washington. HE had the video, HE kept the video, HE sent the video. HE must face the consequences.

Again, I am not saying the ignored the situation, I do believe that they only asked the minimum from law enforcement, or the DA, knowing that they wouldn't be able to tell them much. Not digging into any further, allows them plausible deniability in the event this went sideways for Washington. That way they can put out statements like they did yesterday, claiming they didn't know specifics.

So if the consequence are be labeled as a sex offender, and being required to register as such for the rest of his life. Getting kicked off the team and basically having his life and potentially career ruined. You would be ok with that? You think that punishment would fit the crime?

I am not talking about punishment, I have no control over the consequences, so me being ok with whatever punishment is doled out is irrelevant.

I am talking about people on here, doing whatever they can to make this about the girl, the 2 dudes in the video with her, her dad, if she is a slut, or whatever. This is about Maurice Washington and the crimes he is alleged to have committed. That is it.

I don't believe I have stated one way or the other what I think should happen to him. But if he is found to have broken laws, whatever the California State Judiciary System dishes out is what they dish out. I don't have to be OK with it, because I didn't have the video or decide to send the video, and I won't be the one issuing a potential sentence.

I totally get what you are saying but then the question would be...why even have post boards.

I mean, we talk about the games, that we have no control over, we talk about depth charts that we have no control over. We talk about recruiting that we have no control over (even though some dudes think tweeting recruits helps)

It is just discussion. To kill time really.

Fair enough

I agree. Those surveys usually aren't too far off though. I don't know that specific survey, but my guess is that it's off by no more than +/- 10 points.

Redundo that is you, isn’t it? So if I got this right. All crimes that are committed should be treated the same, not on an individual basis? The context of these crimes don’t matter? The legal system allows for no interpretation of the law? WE GET IT! You believe he deserves to be treated like a backroom child porn distributer, not like a teenager who made a poor decision with an ex. All people are arguing is a justifiable punishment and you keep coming back with “this is the law.”
This is like the complete opposite of what has saying.

You do realize not all convictions are the same and not all punishment of those convictions are the same. Example, Mo could be charged with sexual assault but it he a 3rd degree misdemeanor while your example could also be sexual assault but in the 1st degree felony.

We can talk about it all day long. My point was that I don't have to be ok with the punishment or their consequences because I don't have any control over that and I didn't have any control of what Washington is alleged to have done.

People are all concerned about poor Maurice Washington and what might happen to him if he is convicted of doing the crimes and people rushing to judge him. But have almost zero compassion for the girl, because they have "rushed to judgement" that she asked for it, was a willing participant and is now going to falsely accuse 2 people of rape. All of which has not one iota to do with what Maurice Washington is alleged to have done. It's typical deflection for the actual facts at hand.

As I have said before, I am a special ed teacher, I cannot begin to tell you how much of my day is spent getting kids to own their mistakes. Most people would not believe the amount of times I hear it wasn't my fault, Mike made me do it. After reading this thread, there is no doubt in my mind as to why. Hell this whole thread is nothing more than an enabling forum for Maurice Washington. If you read some of the posts, it is almost as if he is a victim here.

What he did was incredibly stupid and hurtful to the girl. I haven't seen one person say he is innocent or shouldn't be punished. Like you said whether it was rape or consensual is besides the point. My point with Mo is many are looking to instantly label him as a horrible person who should be kicked off the team for having child porn. Like you believe many are rushing to judge the girl. I believe many are rushing to judge him before all the facts of come to light. It is no difference. Just a matter of perspective. There are always 2 ways to view something and 2 sides. Neither usually 100% correct.

It would certainly surprise me.
I assume most kids who had it would scramble like hell to get it off their phones if theres cops looking into it and people getting probation, expelled, etc. i think it would be an eye opener for them, but thats just me.
Or at least as an 18 year old, delete video or photos of a 15 year old. Yes he was younger when he first received it, but she will always be 15 in that video. I'd be more understanding of Mo not deleting the video if that girl was 17.

I am guessing he didn't even think of it as child porn. Until he was charged with it. He saw it has his ex and 2 dudes having sex. Or 2 dudes assaulting her, which ever it may be.

Trust me, I would believe it. You hear that shit about 100 times a day.

I am only going to say this with relation to the video. I believe he was at the same school as the girl at the time the video was made. It is my understanding that all of the students who received the video, were instructed to delete the video. One of the 2 male students on the tape was charged with distribution of child porn. Even if he had left the school, he was still in the San Jose area, it is not at all a huge stretch to believe that he would have known about the dude on the video getting probation for distribution of child porn.

I think you are giving him a huge benefit of the doubt, in him not having a clue it was child porn, and that all he knew of the tape was that it was his ex and 2 dudes having sex.

You think kicking him off the team and ruining his life is going to lead him to make better decisions towards women?
If his only punishment is getting kicked off this team then his life is most definitely not ruined.

If anything, it will probably make him bitter.
No way of knowing this one way or the other, but if it would make him more bitter then that's on him.

Yup, very possibly. Let me rephrase, why would any 18 year old keep a video or photo of a 15 year old once he realized he still had the video or photo?

This is is first offense in anything I believe. If so, I have a feeling as well it will get figured out pretty quickly and everyone can move on. Next year at this time when Mo has 1500 rushing, and we have a BIG10 title. Everyone will forget all about this ;):)

True, I don't know much about the events that happened 3 years ago. So if at that time it came out that this was considered child porn and everyone was instructed to remove it. Yes, he should have removed at that time and should have been much smarter regarding the recent situation.

I read one of the articles stating that the university knew about this incident sometime in the fall.

But the article didn't say when in the fall (was it in August or October) nor did it say how much detail the university knew or had of the incident. I'm guessing the coaches knew what the university knew.

You know about 90% on here feel the same about you. So there is that. I really don't care what you think or what you think of me and my opinions. You contribute nothing to this board and only look to insult and annoy anyone you don't agree with. You are child. Move along kid and let the big boys talk about big boy topics. Ignore is a wonderful tool people I suggest you use it on this dude.
