Shepard Gone

Worked out great. Made sure we brought both programs down to an acceptable level of incompetence.

What a mess. I can't see next year showing any sign of improvement. This is where you have to feel for coaches whose livelihood is based on the whims of 17-20 year olds.

Funny how certain people who probably never cared one bit about the women's basketball team suddenly act like they are concerned about them. I'm sure that has absolutely nothing to do with their feelings towards the current athletic director either. Funny too how hiring a former Nebraska player with head coaching experience in this situation is panned as a complete failure after one season, yet hiring another former Nebraska player without any coaching experience as a baseball coach is still defended by many despite producing nothing of substance over 5 years and not looking at another former Nebraska player without any head coaching experience as a football coach is described as some kind of failure. I guess hiring former Nebraska players only matters when it fits your agenda. The hypocrisy of people never ceases to amaze me.

I think Coach Williams will do fine. Yes, she's an alum. That's not a bad thing. She's where she wants to be. She's been successful everywhere she's been. No reason to think that she won't succeed at NU. She's a tireless recruiter. Needs to get her players and things will turnaround just fine. Sometimes you just need to prune the tree a little. You keep what is healthy. Not good so early on, but you do what you have to do.

I care about all of our athletic programs. Both basketball programs are in disarray, and somehow Marc Boehm still has a job overseeing both programs. That is a problem to me.

I'm not sure if this is directed at me or not, so let me clarify. Losing the best player on the team when we have 2 more years of her services is a mess. I don't blame the coach. I don't blame the player. It's simply a mess of a situation and now if one were hoping to see 7 wins maybe turn into 12 next season, it's unlikely to happen when you lose the best young talent on the team.

I only pay attention to the Husker women's basketball team from a distance, so I am certainly no expert, but I'm not here asking for the coach to be removed nor am I asserting any type of blame in the situation. But I do think it's pretty clear that losing a player of this caliber is bad news.

The "best" player on the team who could have made Yori and Williams jobs much easier if she would hit the weight room and treadmill.

On the outside this may seem to hurt the team. But I am happy for Williams. Getting rid of Jess and Daddy are going to speed up the ability to rebuild the program

I don't know if Amy Williams will work out here or not. I'm not an expert on Nebraska Women's basketball, but there have people who have been critical of her and SE for hiring her (not on this board), because of the on the court results this season, which is kind of a joke IMHO.

Williams loses Romeo to transfer after Yori is fired, and loses wasn't it 3 pretty highly regarded recruits who Yori signed, and it is Williams' fault they had a bad season?

Now arguably the most highly regarded women's basketball recruit from the state of Nebraska in a long time is leaving, after she was (IIRC) one of the players who wanted Yori gone, now wants to leave after getting a new coach? And that is Williams fault too?

Someone feel free to educate me on any inaccurate statements/opinions.

Huh?

Williams will recruit players that will buy in. She has a history of succeeding. It wasn't a bad hire on the surface. I could be wrong. Williams will get time to show she can do it.

I agree that the new coach needs time to get the house in order. But everyone hold tightly to that thought because they are likely to be beyond awful next season - like NBA-team-tanking-for-lottery-position bad

I posted in another thread that some people at Creighton weren't all that sad to see Yori leave back when we hired her. NU took a problem off their hands. Yori had won enough that they were going to have a tough time firing her. JS's issues were just the tip of the iceberg with CY and JS leaving is probably a good thing for the program in the long run if she wasn't willing to buy in. We are in a much better place IMO with our women's coaching staff now and I really don't think the rebuild will take that long. This next year could be rough because I think we'll be playing quite a few freshmen but I'm hopeful that it will pay off and then we'll have a coach that could be at NU for the next 20 to 30 years.

Don't care about women's b-ball whatsoever, but cancers on womens teams are much worse than cancers on men's teams. Jesus, her parents must be disasters of epic proportion. Sounds like addition by subtraction, though it might take a year or two to realize it.

I heard it said the men's team would be better without White III because he was a cancer.
I heard it said the women's team would be better without Romeo because she was a cancer.
Both the above were utter bs.
I do believe the lady Huskers will be better off without Shephard though. Good riddance.

blah blah blah.

You've been doing a non-stop smear job on Yori for a while now. It's easy enough to spread BS stories without a shred of proof. Just 'what you've heard'.
How about you bring some actual facts instead of your usual rumor mongering?
For all we know, you had too much to drink (again) and misheard what was going on (again.)

Maybe long term. Doesn't mean that it's guaranteed to come true, but sometimes it's best to rid the team of selfish players.

They both worked their a$$es off to make themselves better players. I think both teams could have used more of that (as well as a legit scoring threat.)

Drama aside, there is very little talent in the current roster. If her goal is to win championships and play in the postseason, then I don't fault her for leaving. That roster is a dumpster fire right now.

Addition by subtraction is all relative. In theory the NU men's team could have been just as good without him, but in the end, Miles & Company figured out a way to have worse chemistry at the end of the year than they probably would have had with White.

I agree with many of the comments above. It also shows how incompetent our current athletic director is. I wonder what Connie Yori is thinking tonight?

I "heard" from one her players that played a bunch for her AND SAW some of the stuff at Creighton. I'm just glad she's gone. People need to get over her firing. There was very good cause to fire her and she went peacefully because of it. Tell me please what "rumor" got a coach who has been as successful as her fired? It wasn't rumors chump. The BS from know nothings criticizing the administration for canning her is not warranted.

IMO, she needs a fresh start. She's called a cancer and fat and lazy in just about every thread on here about our women's team. I don't know if attitude or locker room issues are why she's leaving or if she's just fed up with our fans and ready to start over. I suspect she'll be successful wherever she lands.
