What a great piece...we don't have a dog because i'm to selfish to devote the time they deaerve, but gawd I want one someday when I slow down.
Pic of your cat?I love the idea...hell I visit my neighbors just so I can pet theirs...I just can't commit to the 24/7 attention they require at this time....plus, I habe a 10 y/o cat who once chose me for his owner, who would hate it. So I owe it to him as well.
Back in 2016 when I divorced, I ended up buying the bouse across the street, literally, so I could be close to my kids...moved across the street and left my cat behind....about 2 weeks go by and i'm in the driveway and he is out...I call his name and he looks at me, twists his head in confusion, realizes who I am, and comes running across the street to be with me and never went back to his old house. So I owe it to him to let him live out his retirement in peace and as the only pet.
Especially with a puppy, it is like having a newborn in the house. It is a lot of work and attention.I love the idea...hell I visit my neighbors just so I can pet theirs...I just can't commit to the 24/7 attention they require at this time....plus, I habe a 10 y/o cat who once chose me for his owner, who would hate it. The saying is put your wife and your dog in the trunk of your car and wait an hour. See which one will be ecstatic to see you when you open the trunk.

Same same. Our dog died in June, we said let's wait at least a year before we get another one. I woke up two months later on Labor Day and said "I'm getting a dog today." And I did. The depression lifted like a fog!Absolutely Love having a Dog! I tell everyone that "Life's Better with a Lab (labrador) in it!"
Lost my Lab of 12 years that I was so incredibly attached too in Sept of 23, was gonna hold off on another one but our house and my life felt entirely too empty and by thanksgiving I had my new Pup and he's been Amazing!
Life's Short... Get the Dog!!!
Ah yes, go to the groomer and say give him the Mufasa!
right after we shaved him..haha

I am probably in the minority on this one, but I am a cat guy. They are such unique animals, they are aloof, needy, independent, loving, crazy, hyper, and tired all in the span of 60 seconds, kind of like a woman, but give unconditional love. The wife has allergies, so we can't have one, but our daughter has two now. When she comes home and brings them it is the best. I get to see my two favorite females, my daughter and her female cat. Her second one is a male kitten now and he is a riot. When he is awake he is on the go, but a total lap cat who purrs like a diesel engine.
I built a catio under our deck so when they come home they can get outside and hone their predator skills. I sit out there with them for hours on end.
You are a lucky man!
I've really been thinking about getting a cat to be a pal with my dog. I see great videos of dogs and cats hanging around together. My luck would be that I would get a cat that hates the dog.Ah yes, go to the groomer and say give him the Mufasa!

Ha! Cats hate everyone and and everything at one point or another during the day. Just kidding.I've really been thinking about getting a cat to be a pal with my dog. I see great videos of dogs and cats hanging around together. My luck would be that I would get a cat that hates the dog.
Same, but with a parrot, who we very unexpectedly lost in July. I think it's important to grieve, and that's a different time period for all of us.Same same. But I'll tell you what... if you treat them right, you'll have a friend for life. You have to take the bad with the good.Especially with a puppy, it is like having a newborn in the house. It is a lot of work and attention.
I think what happens is a lot of times people with older dogs forget what that first year or so is like. Old dogs that have a routine, that don't have accidents, that don't chew on stuff...that is when it is super awesome.
Puppies are a lot of work
Yesterday my wife was squinting out the back patio window... "what's Finn got out in the back yard?" I went out, came back in and handed her the mangled vacuum cleaner attachment. But I'll tell you what... if you treat them right, you'll have a friend for life. You have to take the bad with the good.
Oh for sure! But I'll tell you what... if you treat them right, you'll have a friend for life. You have to take the bad with the good.
