I wonder at this point in the season to let shay go 9 innings is what is best. If up 6-0, maybe throw out a freshman pitcher to get an inning. The season is 20% over and our gem in the recruiting class has thrown 2 pitches. At this rate, Bolt will need to find JUCO or portal transfers for the entire rotation next year. I understand the team hasn't been in position to get freshman much playing time but maybe they should get innings for them when they could.

I should follow B1G news on LaCrosse, Soccer and Hockey just to see if baseball is as much of an orphan here as it seems to be. How they could miss on Povich is just mindblowing.

We needed the win...bad. Plus he only threw 95 pitches. If he hit 100 pitches I would agree.

I don't know, but a couple things...
Shay threw 95 pitches (which is certainly a lot of pitches early season) but 70 of them were in the zone (strikes, right?). That's a ton. He was cruising, no struggling, no pressure and I want to think coach leaving him in was good for him b/c of his start the week before. In a sense, that's a part of pitcher development right there.

As to Christi and the others, there is a ton of season left and it might be a bit early to measure the 'rate' we're going.

Adding that, in my eyes, we've been watching the best player development around here lately than we've seen in many years. I'm building a lot of faith in Bolt and staff.

Nebraska also had another game coming up against an opponent who had fought back in the 9th the day before, leaving Shay in to preserve arms for that game was not without some logic.
