I am...

...with how the team bounced back from yesterday's gut punch and kicked around Rutgers for 18 straight innings today. OK, the ninth inning of game two was forgettable so maybe 17 straight innings is more accurate. But sweeping a road doubleheader is always a beautiful thing!

Keep in mind that RU was without 3 of its top 4 hitters and had to go with players who have seen little action at first base, left field and centerfield. It is just not the same lineup without Harris, Carter and Suceck. RU is a speed team, leading the league in steals by a mile, and Harris and Carter are the two fastest. In addition, the usual day two starter, Driscoll, was out. So the recovery from the punch in the gut was aided by the best medicine available. If RU makes the tournament, and everyone gets back, you will see a much more competitive team.

Every team has injuries, especially in baseball. I don't doubt they are a better team but they don't have the depth to make a serious run. Nebraska is a pedestrian team right now and was a bad throw away from a sweep on the road, the better team won. Besides, little action? Did they not play the position before? Saturday we pitched a freshman coming off of a month long hiatus due to an arm injury and our Sunday starter is our right fielder who just joined the rotation last week. Appreciate the insight and it's always welcome but this wasn't a "Nebraska won because of Rutgers injuries" type of matchup like you seem to say it was.

There are a few teams they could lose three of their top four players in the lineup and not suffer greatly, especially in the first series without them. And their presence on the base paths creates huge issues for opposing pitchers. And keep in mind you cannot judge for the record alone. RU plays a killer out of conference schedule, hence the relatively high RPI

Yes they do play a good schedule, but that's my point. You can technically claim a championship team if that's how you decide to look at it but the fact of the matter is they aren't and whether they lost the opportunity to prove that or not doesn't matter because they get beat. A few years ago Nebraska played a killer schedule too and lost most of them. Heck if they would have finished with one more win to get above .500 they would have been in the regionals. The fact of the matter is they didn't win those games and I wouldn't claim a moral victory because of it. I'm not debating that they lost talent but many teams lose talent. Nebraska losses a starter or two every year it seems, it's part of the game and the depth is what makes a championship team. The Big Ten is also a mediocre conference this year with no top 25 RPI teams. For Nebraska I consider it a bad year even after this weekend. I do love the baseball talk because it doesn't happen from most teams. Iowa sucks this year so their fans disappeared.
