Satterfield good god

By biggest WTF moment was the series when we were stuffed on the goal line. Seemed like we'd been running it to the left with ease the previous series. Announcers even mentioned that we'd found a weakness and were exploiting it for big chunk plays. First and goal and what does Satt do? Abandons it and goes 3 plays right and a dive over the top. I'm sure I'm over-simplifying and generalizing but it was baffling to me in the moment.
I couldn’t watch closely a lot yesterday, I did notice Mazzucca at left tackle did he play there a lot?

When he says those lateral passes and screens are part of the run game, he literally means it. Guy is an idiot. Rather than try to run vertically for 1 - 3 yard gains, he chooses to constantly throw sideways and put us in negative yardage, while risking an interception. It's like he found a DVD of Oregon from a few years back and said, yeah, I can do that too.

That 4th and goal is exactly why he isn’t the guy. Everyone knew what he should’ve done….but everyone also knew exactly what he would do. Give his team almost no chance to score points.
What would you have called there?

I feel like it could have been a QB sneak with guys pushing DR from behind and he could have got in.

That 4th and goal at the 2 was absolutely begging for play-action to Robinson :) (or someone)...instead, we get a RB trying to dive in from 2 yards.

I'm disappointed with the utter lack of creativity using HH. I feel like that guy should be on the field far more than he is, using his athleticism and experience as more than a gimmick. Maybe the fact that NU can start using Kaelin now will help get HH on the field more.

Benning kept commenting on the radio that we were taking advantage of the way OSU defensed a spread out formation. I think he called it a 3-1 formation. He loved what Satt was doing with that and then when we got close to the endzone we abandoned it.

HH is not an elusive guy and when he is on the field they know what's coming short of having him throw the ball. He showed earlier this year that that can still be an adventure by nearly over throwing Raiola with a backwards pass. I wouldn't mind seeing him throw a pass off of what appears to be a straight outside option run but they could do the same thing now with Raiola after what he showed Saturday. HH is not a good fullback. IF anything maybe you line him up in the slot but we have guys who can do that. Our freshman TE/WR demands some touches too and he's not getting them. Save HH for when Raiola's shoulder finally makes him sit down.

Did you watch Rattler the other day? He's just that guy. He's the same in the NFL as he was for Satt. He's not a good QB.
I get it… Rattler is a documented butthole … but he’s playing NFL snaps. Something no past Husker qb has done since what ? Zac Taylor? My point is he had an nfl talent to coach and he didn’t do shit with it. Why let him screw our golden goose up?

His play calling probably won't hurt Raiola's mind. Raiola is running a pro style passing offense with a former NFL QB coach. I'm more concerned about the obvious shoulder injury he has. Satterfield found some things Saturday in the run game. Now he needs to figure our that those outside bubble screens shouldn't be run so damned often. One or two a game is enough and not in crucial situations.

Watching the Chasing 3 series he looks like the one coach that doesn’t fit into the culture of physicality and mindset that Rhule claims is his blueprint. I don’t see how he’s a fit culturally or scheme wise. We only use the fullback as a redzone gimmick and try to run out of shotgun with maddening inconsistency. Running the football is like defense, you have to practice it well to do it well
I’m not convinced that Satt can ever deliver that, he needs to be moved on for a better fit

I knew this coming in. Just figured since HCMR worked with him before he would "coach the coach" and let him know what he wanted to be. Either that didn't happen OR Satterfield doesn't listen well. Either way it's not a good fit for us.

If Satt is in a team loaded with talent he might actually do pretty well. But when he has "like talent" I'm taking the "other guy" all day. On this team we need someone more creative and completely bought in to an identity that the HC wants.

Holla

What does this guy do all week? Just cringey how bad he is, the kids deserve better
Listen. We all know Satt is worthless. OK. Got it. If we aren't firing him, then who is gonna step up and help him. We have all these people on staff getting paid all this money. Somebody please step up and help this fvcking team. Good God. If you need me to step up and quit my job to fvcking help, I'll do it. Sign me up. Football is not rocket science. Even if it was, I'd figure that shit out too.
Come On.

For the history of the game up until the last decade, the rule of thumb is to always take points, but coaches think they're smarter then everyone else and it usually backfires. If we kick 3 instead, all we needed to do was get another 25-30 yards on the last drive to have a chance. If the crooked zebras throw a flag on Day for Unsportsmanlike Conduct, I think we would have been 10-15 yards away from FG range.

The analytics are what coaches rely on now. Analytics when you’re inside the two I believe tell you to go on 4th down depending on the score.

I would say there’s about 75 OCs out there (with teams averaging more than 4 pts per game over us) who get us that W yesterday using our same roster.
Coaching matters. We deserve better, and I promise more than one of those 75 would definitely take the job.

Yeah. It drives me crazy and for some reason they still keep doing it even though it does or will cost them wins at some point. Another prime example or moronic coaches using analytics is last night, Cincinnati vs Colorado. Cincinnati scores to go down one score, in what common sense says kick the XP to make it 31-24, Colorado. Instead Cincinnati goes for 2 and fails making it 31-23. 100 times out of 100 in the history of college football up until garbage analytics, they'd kick the XP and hope for a stop and a chance to score. Or MAYBE go for 2 to win even though OT is the smarter decision unless your team is gassed and not stopping the other team. In the end, Colorado did what it needed to do and unfortunately won to become bowl eligible. 💩

Analytics also say that a QB sneak is the most successful play from inside the 2 yard line. We didn’t even try one. That’s the bullshit with analytics, they’re only accurate if you obey them 100% of time. And no coach does that, they pick and choose when to obey the analytics and when not to. They’re more of scapegoat for coaches… “Analytics said go for it so I decided to go for it.” Just blame it on the analytics. (that the coach only fallows when he wants to)

Yep, and once fans lose hope and turn on an individual coach, it's almost impossible for that coach to win fans back. The writing is on the wall for Satterfield and if Rhule doesn't make a change, he's making his own bed too. What pi$$es me off the most about it is that from day 1 they preached about having a physical ball control offense that huddled and wore defenses down. Last years offense statically was more explosive with far less weapons too. They sold their soul on Raiola, completely changed schemes, and are trying to do something that has never had success here. Luckily the defense is legit enough to not let every game turn into a blowout, but they can only do that for so long.

With all the coaches on the team, they’ve all got to be seeing what we all see right? There must be other coaches suggesting we try some different routes and run game concepts.
