I was saying all day after watching the weigh-in that Rousey looked like crap. Perhaps it was a combination of boredom of dominating the 135 and a tough weight cut, but she looked in a really bad place at the weigh-in. I thought Holm was ripped and totally at ease and would not be intimidated by a big fight like this. I said that if this made it out of the first round, Ronda may be spent and would be eating tons of punches. Turns out I was dead on. Drops mic.

It was like Tyson losing to Douglas.
Holm played it smart; hit and run. And Rousey did look flat when it didn't end in 30 seconds but coming into the ring she looked as confident as ever. Gotta admit I was really turned off when she refused to touch gloves at the start - that's just bush league.

This was my FB post several hours ago. Just saying. My crystal ball was very clear and accurate.
"UFC fights in Australia tonight(or actually Sunday morning there). Some people can't stand Ronda Rousey, but I have always enjoyed her fights. I am boldly predicting she gets beat tonight. Holly Holm shouldn't be a big problem for her, but Ronda looked like dogshit at the weigh-in and clearly in a bad place. I don't know if she is tiring of dominating the weak 135 division or she had a really tough weight cut, but she did not look like she wanted to be there. Holly Holm is a very experienced striker who looked ripped and totally at ease at the weigh-in. Look out if this gets out of the first round. If it does, I think Ronda may look like George St. Pierre against Johnny Hendrick. Hendrick lost, but we all know he won that fight. Lets see if I am right."

This was good for Rhonda. As good as she is, the hype train was running of the tracks. She didn't respect Holly's striking nearly enough. Once she couldn't get her hands on Holly early on and started absorbing strikes, she knew she was in real trouble. Jackson/Winklejohn do it again. She'll be back for a huge rematch. This fight reminds me a little of Silva v. Weidman 1. Be careful Rhonda, Holly's fists may be your kryptonite.

I don't bet on anything, but a friend of mine said he made money based on my assessment. I felt good about that.
Lines when I checked were;
Rousey to win: -1000
Holm to win: +600

So if your friend put $50 on Holmes he would have won $300!

So ur the guy who posted that?... just kidding, i dont go on fb

Speaking of which, does anyone know if these fighters make any real money? What does Rousey get for a fight?

It's reported that between 2014-YTD, RR has made 6 Million on her fights alone.

After her victory last night, Holm got $150k, just in bonuses, that's excluding her split of the gate, fight package per her contract, and her Reebok sponsorship take home.

So, yes it ca be lucrative, but that's usually reserved for the top flight fighters.

I heard before the fight Rousey was guaranteed 10 million for the fight. That's a lot for a women's sport.

It'll be interesting to see what happens from here. Does Rousey and women's UFC fade to the background now that there's no superhuman fighter, or does the blossoming of a rival keep the interest and money rolling? I am guessing the former since a lot of the mass appeal was a woman who could beat up nearly all men. But now she's lost to another woman.

she's going to get a rematch with another multi million dollar guarantee..

in all honesty, she probably threw the fight, and their camp put their money on Holm..

fights have always been dirty.. name of the game is money, not necessarily fighting at that stage

And that is a great summary of why fighting will always be a niche sport.

Maybe but Floyd focuses in his fights FIRST. SHE forgot rule number 1. It coated her last night. It takes focus to be a champion like Floyd and it's obvious she doesn't have it.

I'll give you that. Rousey should have been better prepared. No love for Floyd the fighter or person.

I don't think for a second that she threw the fight. She may have not wanted to be there, but that isn't fixing the fight. She looked like crap at the weigh-in, and seemed VERY off. She has been hinting for a while that she is about to retire soon, and it appeared she was already looking forward to that before the fight. Add in the pressure of her mom hating her horrible coach, her dating a suspected wife beater that she keeps getting heat for, and her pretty much working as the bell cow for UFC the last few years and she showed her fatigue.

I suspect if she truly still wants to fight and prove some people wrong, she will back off on the promotion side and just focus more on training. I suspect her rematch with Holm will look much different, unless of course she is just showing up for a paycheck and then retirement. If that is the case, it will look pretty much exactly like she showed last night. I would like to see her win the rematch, and then meet Cyborg at 140 and see who is toughest. She could retire after that if she wins them both, and feel vindicated and fulfilled. That is just my opinion.

Rousey fought one of the dumbest fights I've ever seen. She totally played right into Holly's strengths and tried to stand and out box a boxer who is also a work class kickboxer. She rushed in outta control but never really tried to tie her up and grapple. She literally just hung out in Holly's kill zone and got her ass kicked. Dumb...dumb...dumb!

I would agree, and it would appear she telegraphed it months ago. After she beat Correa, she said she understood that striking was the only way that Correa could beat her, and she wanted to go in and box her to show her it didn't matter. Ronda's striking has improved since she started, but it is still amateur level next to a world class fighter like Holm.

It would also seem that her entire grappling/ground game was off last night too. She got Holm down one time I think, and she couldn't do anything with her. Holm actually took Rousey down later in the fight and did not appear worried about taking her down. She did get right back up, but it seemed as if Holm took her down to show Ronda she was in for a long night.

An elite level striker is not easy to take down if they don't want to be taken down. Ronda tried several times to take her down and failed, because Holly knew how to hold her off.
Holly Holm is a multi champion in different fighting sports, and was undefeated in MMA, quite easily by the way. Her winning was of no surprise to the ones who follow the sport.

If Rousey would of come in under control and turned it into a grappling match she would of gotten the submission. Ronda looked like someone who's never competed at all. Wild, off balance and out of control the whole fight.

I feel you there and figured you didn't care for PBF. I love Floyd the fighter but don't care one way or another for PBF the person because honestly I don't know him. Unlike most I have learned to separate the 2. I generally don't have feelings one way or another to athletes off the field lives because all we know is what the media reports and for me that's not enough to judge a guys entire life and whether I like him or not.

Either way I don't dis like Rousey as a fighter either. I think I kinda got tired of hearing all the crap about her beating men blah blah blah. I wish her the best in the future. I just think PBF past and his ego fueled life really rubs people the wrong way and thus he will never get the respect for his in ring accomplishments.
