26 still gotta go give or take.
Returning players 100*The only accurate measurement is to start with scholarship players. Subtract off seniors and portal subtractions, then add the new class plus portal additions. Then add the NIL scholarship worthy freshman like Ochoa and the OT from Vegas.
But not walk ons?Returning players 100*
This already subtracts the senior class.
No point in even discussing walk-ons unless they were openly scholarship quality like Ochoa and Ruggelleri or however you spell his name. So few regular walk-ons will be retained that there isn't any point in counting them.Returning players 100*

Whoever is in charge of figuring out the numbers isn't getting paid enough. No point in even discussing walk-ons unless they were openly scholarship quality like Ochoa and Ruggelleri or however you spell his name. So few regular walk-ons will be retained that there isn't any point in counting them.
We know we were at 85 during the season. 17 scholarship seniors. 20 incoming freshman.
85 + 20 - 17 = 88
Someone tell me how where we sit for portal additions and portal subtractions.
I think we had 3 or 4 NIL walk-on's last year who were scholarship quality: Ochoa, Prescott, Vegas OT, and maybe/maybe not Keona Davis. Let's call it 5 to be safe.
That puts us at 93 with portal transfers.
Walk-on's don't matter. Just consider them gone if they didn't have D1 offers last year. Easier to account for the few that will stay. Guys like Lindenmeyer. How many walk on seniors do we have?
Was asking because dinflefritz mentioned it.Walk-on's don't matter. Just consider them gone if they didn't have D1 offers last year. Easier to account for the few that will stay. Guys like Lindenmeyer.
Thanks, this is how I understood it when they went to 105 players all on scholarship..We go from 85 scholarships to 105. Walk-ons currently on the team are competing with transfer portal guys for the additional 20 spots. In most cases, the portal guy will be better than our walk-on. With just a few exceptions for the walk-ons we are truly high on.

“Vegas OT” Xander Ruggeroli is in the transfer portal. No point in even discussing walk-ons unless they were openly scholarship quality like Ochoa and Ruggelleri or however you spell his name.

Yep, realized that later after looking for our portal numbers.“Vegas OT” Xander Ruggeroli is in the transfer portal.
I have us around 85 scholarship players. I would hope we aren't converting 20 walk-ons to scholarship, so we need a lot of portal additions between now and August.I have us right around 105 currently based off of seniors leaving, walk-ons who won't be able to stay, portal ins-outs, and 25' HS class. There will be a few more portal entries and we will get a few more portal additions. I don't see it being as much as an issue as some make it seem. We had a ton of walk-ons who unfortunately have already or will look elsewhere.
Isn't Nico another scholly kicker? One will be gone for sure. Are we keeping two scholarship kickers for '25, Hohl & Alvano?
We also have the walk-on from Jersey. Are we keeping two scholarship kickers for '25, Hohl & Alvano?
Will we also have 2 scholly punters? Incoming portal guy and Sam Kochs boy?Are we keeping two scholarship kickers for '25, Hohl & Alvano?
It’s good idea have two kickers and two punters. Will we also have 2 scholly punters? Incoming portal guy and Sam Kochs boy?
I think we need to assume that other than a couple all the walk ons not already on scholarship are gone. Maybe a couple will be put on scholarship yet but most of them will be gone. I don’t think it’s going to be any problem to get to 105. We’re replacing mostly walk ons with scholarship transfers. How many walk on seniors do we have?
We could probably come up with a pretty decent list of walk-ons that will be kept.I think we need to assume that other than a couple all the walk ons not already on scholarship are gone. Ochoa probably. Lindenmeyer and Seagrwn are probably maybe already on scholarship. I thought Nelson was already a scholarship guy. I’m not sure if we have an official list from the AD as to who all is on scholarship. I still don’t believe numbers are going to be a problem and we have until August to sort it out.We could probably come up with a pretty decent list of walk-ons that will be kept.
I'll start: Lindenmeyer and Seagren the OT. People seem to be high on Nelson at rb. I think he is a walk-on. At least I hope.
Ochoa for sure. He had D1 offers and with the snaps he took in NY, they must like him.Ochoa probably. Lindenmeyer and Seagrwn are probably maybe already on scholarship. Ruggeroli is in the portal? If so, I don’t like that. He’s got some nasty I think…I count 19 scholarship Huskers in the portal, including the Vegas OT.
11 additions so far.
Could be off on all this but here goes:
85 during the season
Subtractions - 17 seniors + 19 scholarship portal players = 36
Additions - 20 freshman + 11 portal transfers + 3 NIL scholarships = 34
85 - 36 + 34 = we have a lot of spots to fill to get UP to 105. Not down to 105.
This is why we are taking some young portal players, some who won't pan out.
Yes. Hasn't picked a team.Ruggeroli is in the portal? If so, I don’t like that. He’s got some nasty I think…
It's not like we've ever had 105 Big 10 quality contributors at any one time before. There's usually about 50 contributors and the rest are development guys. I think there's a few more walk ons that stay than what you're projecting. Guys who are working hard and doing the right things that the coaching staff sees and takes notice of that the fans haven't yet.Ochoa for sure. He had D1 offers and with the snaps he took in NY, they must like him.
We do indeed have a possible numbers problem... a possible problem of getting up to 105 with Big 10 quality players.
I think you have to break it down by position. How many walk-on's do keep in each group? It's not like we've ever had 105 Big 10 quality contributors at any one time before. Don’t be upset at the NCAA for this, the association simply does as its member institutions instruct it. The rules funnel up from the schools. The NCAA allowed rosters to be messed up when they didn’t count 2020 for eligibility.
Now they have these schools with massive rosters and now want to regulate it. Now we see a ton of kids forced into the portal with a big possibility of no where to go. So ultimately the NCAA took away the chance of getting a free education from a lot of young men. Yeah, way to look out for student athletes NCAA
Like where does Gabe Ervin go? Or Bottle ?
Remind me does walk-ons count for the 105?
What a BS cop-out. You could say that for all most all governing bodies.Don’t be upset at the NCAA for this, the association simply does as its member institutions instruct it. The rules funnel up from the schools.
You call it a cop out….but that’s how associations work. Now is it questionable how good a job that the NCAA executes its members directives? Yes it is. But to blame the NCAA for “taking away a chance for education” is out of line. School administrators and athletic directors chose that. What a BS cop-out. The people elect officials. So now I can’t complain about the governmentYou call it a cop out….but that’s how associations work. You can complain all you want. Blaming the NCAA is making it into a scapegoat….the root of it is individuals or certain schools that might have too much pull on the NCAA. For example a conference commissioner. I suggest you have your school speak louder on these issues if they want something different. The people elect officials. Alas this may become irrelevant. But I say that they should put the best 105 on scholarship and if they do that, history has shown that some of those guys will be walkons.I have us around 85 scholarship players. I would hope we aren't converting 20 walk-ons to scholarship, so we need a lot of portal additions between now and August.
