SCHOLAR ROSTER 2017 (incl 7 walkon):
39 Pelini 15-16-6-2-0 (89% of upperclass)
44 Riley 0-4-7-19-14 (11% of upperclass)
83 Total
15-19-13-21-14 (Sr, Jr, So, RSFr, Fr)
Starters:
Pelini: 16
Riley: 6
SUBTRACTIONS SINCE 2017:
15 Pelini Graduation (Newby, Natter, Jones, Kalu, DPE, Brown, Knevel, A Taylor, Williams, Rahn*, Classen*, McNitt*, Hoppes*, Ketter*, Webber*)
4 Pelini Attrition (Decker, Darlington, Gates, Brokop)
9 Riley Attrition (Simmons, Snyder, Englehaupt, Ward, Miles, Hampton, POB, Williams, Tanner Lee)
SCHOLARSHIP ROSTER 2018 (incl. 1 walkon)
20 Pelini 12-7-1-0-0 (57% of upperclass)
35 Riley 3-5-18-9-0 (25% of upperclass)
28 Frost 0-6-3-0-19* (18% of upperclass)
83 Total
* some will become Fr/RSFr
15-18-22-9-19
KEY OBSERVATIONS:
- 19 Pelini and 9 Riley recruits have been replaced with 28 Frost recruits
- last year we had 7 contributing seniors. This year we should have 12.
- the 6 Jucos Frost brought in have leveled the scholarship distribution more evenly.
- We have reduced 7 scholarship Walkons to currently 1.
- of the 28 scholarship departures since last year; 18 were non contributors graduates/underclassmen or won't fit wiith scheme change (POB, Miles).
- Team is older than last year (more sophomores, less Fr/RS Fr)
- the team is 34% Frost recruits, about 10% higher than normal for first year coach with normal graduation
Many ways too look at it. One way to look at it:
1. Frost has replaced 6 graduating zero contributing Walkons/Injured with 6 upperclassmen Jucos that could contribute immediately (big positive) and shores up junior class:
Bell > A Taylor
Vaha > Natter
Woodyard > Rahm
M. Williams > Claasen
W. Jackson > Keron Williams
Honas > Ketter (diff positions)
2. Added Some Needed non-freshman depth in secondary (D. Williams), OLB (Dixon) and QB (Vedral).
3. And replaced 8 very average contributing seniors plus 13 total attrition (almost all non contributing) with new 20 man freshman class.
1 and 2 are low risk, no downside, all upside strategy. Only risk, similar to every class, is how many non performers in #3.
Nice start reshaping roster.
Note: may be some small mistakes. Assumes Canty, Washington, Watt are eligible.
