I like JP and like I said he may very well be an outstanding coach and recruiter. My main question is at Nebraska should we be hiring someone with a coaching and recruiting resume limited to 2 years of experience at a lower tier division 2 school??

If you look at conference stats for Northern Michigan they were near the bottom in rushing yards allowed, sacks, and TFL.

He just does not have enough experience to perform a proper evaluation of his abilities as it pertains to coaching and recruiting to be in the position he is in. He may very well kill it on the recruiting front as signing day approaches. Regardless, it was a gamble to hire him. One that hopefully pays off.
I do agree that it was a gamble hiring JP, which could pay dividends in the near future (maybe not this year, but possibly next?) or it could blow up in Riley's face. As I recall, JP wasn't Riley's initial choice, but when he interviewed JP, he rose to the top in a hurry. If Riley is to be respected as a coach who brings in good coaches (jury is obviously out on this one for many) then he must have seen something that told him this would be a good long term hire. Riley doesn't strike me as one who is trying to build things in a flash... It stands to reason that JP has some potential to be great that Riley has seen and is willing to take his lumps for a year or two if necessary to get a great coach in year 2 or 3... Building for the future seems to be Riley's MO...
