RIP Bill McCartney

A few Nebraskans that were on that officiating crew. Not their finest hour.
Another game was 91 game the snowball game plus the block in the back by when Colorado blocked the extra point try and ran it back for two, Johnny Mitchell was going to catch the guy but he got taken out with either a clip or block in the back, then the zebras didn’t have the ball’s to flag Colorado for unsportsmanlike conduct while Nebraska was lining up for a field goal attempt. The fans were relentless and should have been penalized until they stopped

Heard people say during the Pinstripe Bowl that they had never seen a blocked XP returned for a safety - as you noted, it happened to the Huskers back then too. That guy was Greg Biekert who could never outrun Johnny Mitchell without the benefit of the clip. Coldest game I ever attended that didn't involve being wet - it was a night game.

Shit it happened a few years ago vs Oklahoma

You never know what’s in a person’s heart. I always gave Bill the benefit of the doubt with his Promise keepers and felt he really was trying to do something good and thought good on him. I too thought his obsession with Nebraska and hating red was over the top weird. But he certainly made the rivalry interesting. RIP Bill.

Howdy dana!! Good to see ya.

I did not see the documemtary. I know he had a laundry list of flaws he was pretty honest about later in life...I don't really hold it against him, the grudges he fabricated against us and creating a rivaly out of thin air...and one of the things that makes really competitive guys in sports so successful are attitudes like the one he had when it came to Nebraska...heck even Michael Jordan used to lie about opponents to psych himself up for a game...thats what people like them do. Thats how I reconcile it anyway.
Hope all is well, lite!

Yeah, I really don't (or didn't) hold any ill-will towards him, especially after he was no longer the head coach at sCUm.

I was just pointing out the fact that I was kind of shocked that he still held that much hatred over NU.

Honestly, when he coached the Puffs, I thought it was just his way of motivating sCUm fans and players in order to elevate the program.

To be fair, that documentary wasn't all that long ago. Maybe Bill was already exhibiting symptoms of Dementia. Dementia is a horrible thing. I hope Bill and his family are at peace. I wouldn't wish that on anybody.
