Just curious - I'm too lazy to look it up – but teams where Coach Riley has been head coach, has he ever suffered many blowout losses? Even last year when it look like things could be unraveling, they seemed to figure out how to plug the holes that other teams were taking advantage of. With Pelini, I lost faith that they knew how to adjust to weaknesses that other teams were exploiting upon us.

As much as I hate losses, I can handle it much better if the scores are close and the team fight hard until the end. Any thoughts from others in the know?

Here is what I found in the last 5 years in Corvallis:

2014- Oregon 19-47
2013- Washington 27-69
2012- Oregon 24-48
2011- Wisconsin 0-35, Stanford 13-38, Oregon 21-49
2010- Stanford 0-38

Not saying we won't ever get blown out with Riley as HC, but just his demeanor and steady personality lend itself to more consistency. While I believe that in Bo's case, his tempermant exaccerbated the problems and a lazy, throw in the towel mentality.

Your so right on that, his players took the lead every time and followed his demise when things were going against them.

I always thought that Bo had a very lucky streak. We made some great comebacks against teams that seemingly had the game won. Ohio State at home and the great comeback win against Iowa come to mind along with a long pass (?) that won a game against Northwestern.

These were games that were won with a decent amount of good fortune on our side. I see Riley as a coach that wins games based on consistent effort and decent coaching throughout the game. I don't see us getting blown out by Wisconsin like we did previously under Bo.

That was one of the most maddening things about the blow outs under Pelini. It wasn't so much that we got blown out, which was bad enough, but a lot of those blow outs came from teams that had no business blowing us out. It's one thing to get blown out in a game where the opponent is just far and away more talented than your team; I'm willing to bet most of the games Oregon State got blown out in, like those listed above, were against teams that just simply were much more talented. It's another thing to go into a game against a team that you should be evenly matched against, and simply get floored because they hit you hard coming out, and your team just lays down and gives up rather than fighting back.

Agreed. It seemed like we just simply weren't willing to make any halftime adjustments (especially against Wisconsin) to stop the bleeding. Langsdorf has made adjustments from halftime this year to get our running game going and has used different backs (with different skill sets) to make it happen. I am just a lot more confident now in how the game is going to play out both offensively and defensively.

And Banker admits to being embarassed and won't stand for it. These coaches don't let pride get in the way.
