In the 3 years I have not been impressed with Langsdorf's play calling, time management of a game nor development of an offensive line. Riley is too close and won't over rule his play calling. A new OC is needed. Thoughts?

The fact that you are not impressed is impressive. EXACTLY what is it about his play calling you don't like? Make certain to include down and distance, what the D was doing and if the QB checked out or if it was a RPO play.

A new OC would make the Riley hire continue to look brilliant. Many of his long time assistants moving on - and not because they were hired elsewhere. I'll be impressed that Riley continues to learn on the job, though...

Why in the world would you want to start the offense over? Especially when they have been pretty darn good so far this year (issues of drops aren't the OC's fault).

Langsdorf is Riley's disciple, two peas in a pod. To replace Langsdorf would be Riley giving a vote of no confidence in Riley's own offensive strategy.

Go back and do some research on Riley taking over play calling at times while at OSU, shouldn't make assumptions.

How does the OC develop the offensive line?

Exactly. Look around. There arent 4 star let alone 5 star kids. We don't have the talent to be a top 25 program. It's not changing with top 40 classes. And to think our OL has 4 Jrs?!?! Ouch!!!

I'm so glad you posted this because this is exactly what the problem is... No personal accountability with himself as an offensive coordinator. The man must have went to the Bo Pelini School of point the thumb not the finger. Just words full of nothing...

Is truhusker Danny Langsdorf?

If I am not mistaken, he is accountable to the head coach. Riley hears the play calls being sent down, its not like he finds out after the play is over. Who do you think he should be accountable too - the fans?

Langsdorf is why we have three QB's on our roster that are all very good. When was the last time we could say we were genuinely three deep at the QB spot?

I have no problem with Langs as a play caller. I remember, after 1978 when Osborne started shifting to a run oriented option attack, my dad and many other fans screaming at their TV sets "pass the damn ball!!" when Osborne would call a running play on third and eight and not make it. And in big games where we lost consistently to teams like OU, Miami, and FSU, with a run first offense, tons of fans were saying Osborne couldn't win the big games because his offenses were too one dimensional. Ha. Turns out he just needed better players.

Langsdorf has a brilliant offensive mind and can develop QB's. He just needs better players on the line. And that is on Cav. If anyone is on the hot seat it should be Cav.

Ultimately yes, the coaches are accountable to the fans. Tell me what major College or NFL team where this isn't true?

Langs is a good quarterbacks coach and a below average Offensive Coordinator. I've layed out my argument over on RSS and don't really feel like rewriting War and Peace. Simply put he has little imagination and he is as predictable as the day is long. Defensive Coordinators know this and have had an easy time manipulating his playcalling to their desired effect. That's one of the reasons our offense grinds to a halt in the fourth quarter.

Quick everyone sign up so you can read a fictional version of offensive football.

I don't care for the OC either, but I don't think he's been the source of the problem.

The prior two years, we were like #31 and #35 in total offense. This year it is currently like #68 or something.

He def has issues play calling at times.

Our offense grinds to a halt in the 4th quarter? It didn't last year. Last year our offense was more productive in the second half than the first. That speaks well of the adjustments Langs makes.
Play calling has little to do with imagination. It has more to do with reading defenses and adjusting. Langs does that just fine

I understand what you are saying, but lets pumps the breaks on saying we have 3 QB's on the roster that are very good. We have a QB that is getting his feet back under him after not playing for almost 2 years and he looks a little rusty and we have two kids that have never taken a snap in college. I think they were all highly regarded recruits, but so were Cody Green, Johnny Stanton, Zak Darlington, Harrison Beck to name a few from the recent past that for one reason or another just didn't pan out.

Like with most things Nebraska football most people heard what they wanted to here at T Lee. Like how he did great at the Manning Camp, and Chris Mortensen said he was all that and a bag of chips. Not the fact that he did struggle somewhat at Tulane and hasn't played on this big of a stage. He needs some time, but the preseason hype is just that hype. Let's let him find his way and see how things shake out.

As far as developing QBs, that is great, but I would rather have a QB that can win games instead of get drafted. I don't mind Langs, but I would also say that he isn't one of the top offensive minds in college football. This year should be a pretty good measuring stick to see what his offense will be with more guys that fit his system better. He does need some help from his defense as well to run what he wants to run.

Which is why Georgia Tech just ran for over 500 yards against Tennessee. Remember that same Tennessee defense that was horrible against the run last year? The same Tennessee defense that lined up in a heavy set. So Langs decided to air the ball out with Ryker Fyfe. As I told RSS maybe Langs should read The Art of War and how deception is one of the major keys to beating your opponent. Closely followed by exploiting your opponent's weakness by presenting your strength as a weakness and dictating their strategies.

Sorry...but no. I think he has a problem with managing the clock and taking it into account when play calling at the end of halves and particularly the end of games. However, beyond that he has done just fine. Did you hear Osborne yesterday try and quell some of the criticism of this pass first stuff? After giving his standard answer about not commenting on Riley's time at Nebraska, he did say, “Just because there was a philosophy that worked for us, that doesn’t mean there aren’t other philosophies that will work."

P.S. This doesn't mean that I'm going to stop saying "Run the dang ball" when Langs forgets about keeping the defense honest.

Tennessee knew they were very Poor at stopping the run. So they dangled the carrot in front of Langs and he took the bait... like he always does. And worst of all he tells the world at the press conferences so! I bet Tennessee lined up stopped run against Georgia Tech too? But that didn't stop Georgia Tech from pounding it down their throat.

If every defensive coordinator knows you're going to play it exactly by the book because you told the world that's what you do... and you do it!!!! How in the hell can you use deception as your ally???

Who won that game?

Tennessee won going away against us and Georgia Tech took them to overtime and ran for 500 yards. Do you think maybe that's why it went to overtime even though they didn't have the same athletes?

Didn't the Ga Tech QB run the ball about 45 times in that game? Did Nebraska have a QB that could have run the ball 45 times against Tennessee? Should they have run the QB with the underwear waistband for a hammy or the QB with the broken wrist? The QB with a history of concussions?

Trying hard to find the correlation between Ga Tech and Nebraska. Two different schemes two different game plans, totally different personnel.

Clemson didn't run for more than 254 yards in any single game, averaged less than 4.5 per rush and won the national title.

We tried to run against Tennessee last year. And it was stoned. Stoned by a horrible run defense. Worst game I ever saw a Husker offensive line play. Couldn't pass protect either.

Once again, that is on Cav
