Nate Clouse said earlier that these last couple of weeks looks like it has really taken a toll on Riley. He looks tired and and like he has aged a a few years with all the crap going on.
If only he would run the walk-on program better...
Let's put it this way. The guy who hired you gets fired, so you've basically been pushed out of a paratrooper plane with a "good luck" from the guy who pushed you, hoping that your parachute deploys. Maybe the players will save him, maybe they won't. We will see.

He looked like his security blanket had been taken away and this was now serious business. Stress level much elevated. Smirk off face/no over celebrating minor on field accomplishments.
SE coddling him was definitely part of the problem with uninspired coaching performances. Silliness at end of games, etc. At least they didn't screw around at the finish last night.

Night game thing. He's probably in bed at this time.
A lot going on in his program this week. Short week, prepared his team well. Everyone was focused from the start. He smiled and pointed his finger and congratulated guys. Nothing to see here, just move along.
He looks like a guy who had about 3 million bucks on the husker's covering the 6.5 points
If he was mad I wouldn't blame him. He left his comfort zone to build something and he came to a place that had no depth whatsoever and in year 3 while starting a young team people are calling for his head. Hopefully the nice guy getting mad leads to results and if he somehow gets to 7 or 8 wins we see what he can do next year with a more experienced squad.
I thought he looked serious and focused. JMHO.
You do know his last four years at OSU were bad (strong feelings/rumors that he was going to be let go)-- but I do hope he wins out and makes the decision difficult for the next AD.
These are the times that will show if Riley is a good coach or not. He was struggling in Oregon State and this played into why he came here. Once here he has shown he realized many of the issues were not just that OSU did not support their program. He then axed Banker and Read that had contributed to why the fans are upset now. If Diaco continues to get the defense going in the right direction, that will look like a great decision.
If Mike can make it through the year and fix the rest of his staffing problems, he will have shown imo he is a very good coach
Did Gary Sharp, on Big Red Overraction show, say he thought Riley was retiring after this season, no matter what happens?

He did not look well. He also seems to have a persistent cough. I hope it is just the short week and maybe a cold or something. But the signs to me look like someone very discouraged. I hope he can turn it around, but if he can't, I hope his health does not suffer.
It wouldn't surprise me. If what we are seeing is stress, life is too short to kill yourself in the fishbowl. In the first game this year they showed him jogging on to the field and it looked like he was out of shape and laboring to jog. It looked like he also had gained weight on that day because he was pretty svelte when he got here. Maybe it is a cold or maybe it's something a few wins will help or maybe it is the job at Nebraska.
Bo's last few years here he was looking waaayyyyy ragged. The video of him posted on here the other day made him look far younger and way healthier.
So now we're all speculating on his health? Maybe he should ride his bike more....
I think Riley retiring would be the best case scenario for all parties but if he continues to stay on, I'll support him 100%!!! Doesn't mean I won't be critical at times, but ultimately have always wanted and still want great things for him @ NU. But Riley isn't the kind of guy to "push through it" cause of the money envolved. He isn't Bo.
Something that I think will be interesting to see is when the NU $ stop coming in to the Pelini household is how much his salary @ Youngstown state goes up. Or if he comes back to FBS football. What a scum bag. You'd think Charity or unearned income like that wouldn't sit well with such a blue collar guy... But that's on to another story. Sorry. Lots of things I can get over but I'll never get over Bo robbing the university like he has.

I think the university writes the contracts like that so they can pay these buyouts over time rather than a lump sum. I would bet Pelini would have rather had the one time payment.

For sure. Lump sum is usually the way to go factoring the time value of money. At least the school won that battle. I meant the payout in general is ridiculous. Bo wasn't happy here, he stayed on for the $. I respect the hell out of any coach or person really that doesn't let $ control their life especially when your already finically well off. Not against making money. It's important but it's not everything

Get to 8 wins and maybe a bowl win and you can go out on your own terms...get a cushy job in the athletic department to try to salvage recruits and be around the program, he's a good ambassador.
Im not predicting it, but at this point I am kind of hoping it. It beats the alternative of getting 5 wins and pushed out. He could also go win 9 and the big 10 west but it is the more unlikely scenario. Never know.

What's the chance of this actually happening? When has a coach who was on the hot seat voluntarily stepped down for performance reasons? I don't think it's a very likely scenario at all and I think it's silly to expect Riley to be some kind of saint with money when almost every other coach would take the buyout.

Also Riley is a stand up guy. Also, if his health and stress level are as bad as he looks he might want to.
I'm not predicting it, just spit balling. If he comes out and wins next weekend and only has one more loss this year that's like a drink from the fountain of youth...but the lure of going out a winner on your own terms has to be strong too.
You guys are funny. A coach has a full day less to prepare for an opponent and on top of that it's a road game which takes half a day out of your time. Then you stay at some hotel with crappy beds and pillow and get woke up 8 times during the night by drunks coming home from the bars...(probably Husker fans). Good heavens I would look and be tired too. Everyone seems to forget how many hours TO worked during the week before a game..Riley works his ass off this time of year.
Our fans are exhausting. That's why. Is it any wonder T.O almost went to Colorado?
Maybe he should stay tired. Sometimes being tired eliminates over thinking. Sort of like the “flu game”. Only kidding but I did like how Diaco pointed that out. That the coaches thought the short rest could help them stop over thinking.

I'll agree that Riley works long hours but if you don't think he looks way more tired and aged this year than normal you may as well be shallow Hal looking at Gweneth Paltrows body double.
He looks disinterested or upset and that's bad. But when he's happy, charismatic, or loose that's also bad. What are the appropriate emotions to show?
He doesn't look disinterested to me. In fact he looks more interested this year than past.
He just looks a lot older and tired. It's obvious.
It is obvious and I noticed it starting with the NoILL PC. His looking like he saw a ghost didn't have to wait for ADSE getting canned. He knows Nebraska fans "care" and knew he was immediately on micro-thin ice after that loss.
