Richie was an ass, but was he this ass?

Gus Martin also played an alleged voice from Incognito, which was left for his son at the time. The man on the phone who is allegedly Incognito threatens Jonathan Martin, using graphic language including racial slurs.

"Hey, what’s up, you half-n----- piece of s---," Incognito allegedly says. "I saw you on Twitter, you been training 10 weeks. I’ll s--- in your f---ing mouth. I’m going to slap your f---ing mouth, I’m going to slap your real mother across the face. F--- you, you’re still a rookie. I’ll kill you."

Would not surprise me to find that was bogus too. Not defending Incognio at all but when the cards come from the bottom of the deck, its BS.

Was he “this ass?” Notwithstanding Martin’s sketchy behavior, maybe Richie was pretty “ass,” too … or at least weird.💩

Old 2018 article on cbssports.com:

“Incognito was detained and arrested at a Scottsdale, Arizona funeral home, where his father's funeral was being held earlier this week. At various points of his time at the funeral home, he threatened to return to his car, get guns out of the car and shoot employees of the funeral home if they didn't allow him access to the proceedings and his father's body.

Police did find firearms in his truck when they arrived.

The police report also contained a piece of information, per the Democrat and Chronicle, that Incognito wanted to cut off his dead father's head in order to research what was inside.”

Many of us remember when the late Hobo Joe used to post on Husker boards. He was “interesting,” too.

Oh he was definitely ass. More than one thing can be true.

I'd never defend him, but lying to damage someone is BS.

Lawrence Phillips was a pretty decent running back, too🤣
I don’t approve of anything that Phillips said. But when you’re raised by someone who holds you down and pisses on you (per Damon Benning), and disappears from your life until you’re eligible for a Heisman and then shows up at your door, I have to feel some sympathy.

Yep people don’t get this. Ritchie may have been a not so good person but his career and life were ruined on lies. And even the OPs bitching should realize this.

Callahan made a classic move when he took over at Nebraska, he kicked the best player on the team off the team. He's no saint, but Richie is probably the most talented OL Nebraska has ever signed.

Bold statement.
He was a RS Sophomore in 2003 and was of the size and speed of great OLs 20 years later. He was a nasty guy, no doubt, but that nasty translated to great OL play. Starter and Freshman All-American in 2002 and All Big 12 in 2003. Would have contended for 2 Outland Trophies in 2004 and 2005 had Callahan been able to manage him. Clear emotional problems, but despite that, 16 seasons in the NFL. Frankly, from a talent standpoint, he would have displaced any of the OLs from 82 or 83 except for maybe Rimmington, and that would have been close. He was actually bigger than Rimmington.

Not that everyone knows this, but Irving Fryar had many of the same problems, and he's considered a God of Nebraska Football. I could give you a list as long as your arm of Nebraska players from the late 70s and early 80s who were big time bullies.

Not saying you are wrong. I grew up in Lincoln. Siblings at UNL during the 80s and 90's, me during the early 2000's. No one was crazier than Richie, IMO. In a city used to crazy football players, he took the cake. Guy was pure nuts.

Scott Baldwin was actually mentally ill and beat a woman almost to death. I'd put him first on the list. Then there's Lawrence Phillips. Also remember, the definition of crazy changed dramatically between the 70s and the 2000s. Tony Davis was certifiably nuts by 2000 standards and just a renegade in 1973.

Have a family member who was in the area when the Baldwin incident occurred. Also have family members who grew up with Tony. I still say having a guy like Richie who could go nuts at any moment and basically kill someone puts him at the top. All the size and athleticism you listed, but might hit you out of the blue at the bars or a party. Guy is crazy.

Maybe he was just misunderstood! ;)
