Trev said the guy has exceeded his expectations in terms of work ethic, not that he has won more games than he expected. Why is that so hard to grasp?

We have had plenty of coaches the past 25 years making millions who didn't put in this kind of effort on the recruiting trail and the local HS scene. I'll let the Husker fans fill in the names of the coaches that didn't want to recruit, do the media thing, schmoozing boosters, or do the palm pressing thing. It's a part of the job as the Head coach at Nebraska. Rhule is doing all of those. Now just develop, lead and win. GBR!!

I'm only going by what he has done in two short months. PR and recruiting wise. We haven't played any games yet. I thought I made that clear in my posts. Reading comprehension for some is not that great. Some just love to be miserable. Lol.
Jumping 40+ spots in 2 months getting us to top 25 class is considered elite in my book. What's he gonna do when he has 1-2 years to recruit a class? More importantly, what is this version of NU going to do with their top 25 class?
Thank God. I refuse to believe football is such a dangerous sport that you can't practice it. And surprise surprise, all the things we didn't practice we were terrible at in games.
So far Rhule is 0-0 so let's wait and see. But I suspect that his lack of action in Frost's fourth season was partly due to lack of good options he could sell to boosters.
well, we've had classes around this same area before. Kinda that 25-40 rank seems to be the window we'll fall into usually. As stated, what he was able to improve on from where he started was above average.
Wouldn't call a ~25 ranking "Elite", though. OSU, Bama, UGA recruit and sign mostly Elite players. Winning obviously helps, but paying for players is every bit as important anymore.
I'd predict that Texas and A&M start getting REALLY good in the next few years. Why? They're the wealthiest. And that's the Reason.
6 games? Ha. He will win at least 8-9 his first year. The roster is flipped. He just needs to get rid of the frost recruits and their losing attitudes. Lifting was probably optional under war daddy.
He will start 6-1 with a loss to Michigan. Plus give him half a win for bringing back a real spring game. So 6.5-1.

Frost got top 25 classes every year. Look how that turned out. Like I said, hasn't done anything. I'll wait to see how the season plays out before saying whether he's meeting expectations.

I should know better. Oldjar and I had a back and forth almost a year ago and he (1) still never admitted he was wrong (kinda like oldgrappler) and (2) was a consistently pessimistic old coot. I can see nothing has changed so, yeah, you're right. What the hell was I thinking?
Rhule is a grinder & his young staff understands the pace & the process he wants. Not sure how 1st year will go but any amount of success greater than 6 wins & the stream will flow like a gushing river soon!!
Is there an option C here where we can disagree with Trev, but not make it about not winning any games? Or do we have to go all in on either A) Rhule hasn't won anything yet so Trev's wrong, or B) Trev's right, Ruhle is the best coach EVARRRR?

I would damn well hope a coach with a $74M contract which makes him the 8th highest paid coach in college football would be doing all he's done. To expect less and be impressed with more, with his salary, is a loser's mentality. But, I also know Trev should say shit like that from a PR standpoint, so I won't get too hung up in the semantics of things.
As for the "Rhule hasn't won anything yet" mentality, that's ridiculous. What's he supposed to do, schedule some exhibition games to prove whether he's meeting/exceeding expectations? Trev's comment can only be judged on what Rhule has been tasked with so far.

True but if you read TA’s statement he says “in terms of work pace.” Trev had an expectation of what that work pace should be and Rhule has outpaced it, sounds like substantially.
Why, then, must people apply their own standard and say, “no he hasn’t.”

Again, I just base it (whatever "it" may be) on the fact that Rhule is the 8th highest paid coach in college football. Hell, he would have been top 5 last year with his contract, which is when the deal was made. I would damn well hope he has an extremely high "work pace," I would damn well hope he has the recruiting chops to at least move us up near where we normally are in recruiting rankings (we averaged #22 over the last 5 years, we're now at #27), I would damn well hope he's visiting high school coaches, meeting with boosters, doing interviews, kissing babies, etc.
That doesn't make me a naysayer, or negative, or whatever...that makes me a realist. And it's not a knock on Rhule at all. As I've been saying, he's doing everything he should be doing. I guess it could be a knock on Trev for having too low of expectations, considering the check he just wrote. But, as I mentioned, I fully expect Trev to say stuff like that. It's good for moral and PR and all that crap, so I can't really knock Trev for that.
Anybody who is going to bag on Alberts for that statement doesn't understand effective leadership in my opinion. A good leader praises in public and criticizes in private. A good leader finds nuggets he can truthfully praise in public. So in this case he says in public he had expectations and Rhule exceeded them. He is doing his cheerleading, which he should be doing for all his employees, and it is impossible to accuse him of lying or being disingenuous because we aren't mindreaders and have no idea what his expectations were.
So in your opinion, he hasn’t exceeded expectations. Fair enough.
That being said, are you on site seeing everything he’s doing? Why is it that you know better than TA? You make good points that he is doing what he’s supposed to be doing for the salary he’s being paid. But the reality is, many look at the salary he’s receiving and will say it doesn’t matter how many hours he puts in per week, it will still never be enough.
If he was paid half the amount his contract stipulates but still worked the same amount, would he be exceeding expectations then?
I think the issue many have with Rhule is the amount of money he is paid, and he will never meet their expectations.
