Rhule paying for last year’s Seniors to attend the Bowl Game

I think it’s a really cool move (but I’m sure someone will disagree and be offended).

Rhule joked during the PC that flying Nouili in from Germany put a dent in his credit card. As one would expect from Nebraska fans, somebody checked into it and found out it costs more to fly from Lincoln to JFK than Frankfort to JFK. But I don't think the fan was implying Rhule misspoke.

That’s a nice gesture. Times have changed for sure…

Remember when someone bought Crouch a $5 ham sammy and we almost got the death penalty?

I was just talking about that the other day. Wild to think how much things have changed, with players are now getting paid millions.

Although this is former players, so that probably would have always been legal.

From Lincoln yes but from Omaha no. Why would anyone fly from Lincoln.

Nebraska fans would “fact check” Rhule on this…

I seem to remember when Rhule first came on board he commented that some of last year's seniors approached him and they said they wanted to buy in right away, win some games, and go to a bowl. It was important to them. I'm sure coming so close last year and not getting a 6th win was hard for everyone on the team.

I wonder if this generous offer of Rhule's is related to that. Anyway, it's a very generous and classy gift.

Here is a cool story about Coach Rhule from another board:

In the spirit of Christmas and giving thanks I wanted to share an incredible story I heard last night about Matt Rhule.

We had a couple, who are friends of my in-laws over for prime rib dinner last night and he (who is a casual Nebraska fan) told me that over the summer, he and his son were driving from Colorado (where his son, who’s in his late 20s, lives) to Minnesota. When they were an hour outside of Lincoln his son says, “I’m going to text Matt Rhule and tell him we’re around Lincoln”. Astonished that his son has Rhule’s phone number, his son explains that a year and a half before when he worked as the doorman at the Ritz Carlton in Beaver Creek Colorado, Rhule stayed there for a week (and obviously really must have appreciated the hospitality from the son).

So his son texts Rhule and Rhule immediately CALLS him. He says that he is in Italy on vacation but if he and his dad would like to get a tour of the new facilities (they had not asked to in conversation) that he could arrange it but to give him 3-4 hours to get it lined up. They politely decline as they were in a long road trip and trying to make it back to MN. Rhule told him it was great to talk to him and call him anytime if he needed something.

Makes you think how many times in life have you interacted with someone in the hospitality business? How many times did you get to learn their name? How many times did you give them your phone number? And how many times did you call them while on vacation to try to give them a great experience? The answer is none .

Watching everyone have fun in NYC makes me think how much harder it probably is for other teams to poach our players. The team is together. Attitudes look good. An extra chance to show out. Not sunny Florida, but still a once in a lifetime experience for a lot of those players.

Love the shit talking to Phil Simpson.

Gettin him to Frankfurt could be expensive if he’s not already there or doesn’t have a nearby train connection.
