Rhule on the Pink Ribbon

Doesn't have to be top 5 year 1, but he needs to close on some top players particularly at the QB position. Not sure there's any good portal candidates this year that will be big difference makers.

It’s like he was frozen in time in the 90’s and woke up and can’t fathom why we aren’t getting top 5 recruiting classes.
I'm not frozen anywhere, I'm responding to the moves the AD is making. It's pretty crucial for the program, university, and state. If any of you were listening to Trev's press conference a couple weeks ago he dropped hints about our predicament. There's going to be another big round of re-alignment coming up, and Nebraska is in danger of not being in the premier league. There are several programs, Michigan and Iowa among them, that would like to keep Nebraska down and will do what they can to see it happen.

We aren’t going anywhere in terms of top conferences, too much history and too many eyeballs still watch us … winning is important but to expect premier results with Rhule in year 1 or even 2 after the abomination of the previous two staffs put our program back 15 years.

Rhule is cleaning up the mess and doing a damn fine job - especially considering the injuries the team has incurred. They are adapting to our talent and adjusting on the fly to benefit the team. They are getting reps and game time experience with our young guys which is why they have filled in so admirably.

Rebuilding takes time, you don’t dump a couple of hundred million into the program and expect to be Georgia right after. Will get better recruits as they start seeing us moving in the right direction. We will get better recruits as we continue to improve to the top of the conference.

None of that will happen without the right coach and mindset. Rhule is building a culture - he’s following his process to win and rather than take it in and realize what a massive undertaking is in front of him and the staff - you spout BS at every turn and act like he’s not doing good enough. It’s wearing thin because of your frustration with Riley and Frost - if you can’t see a substantial difference in our program this year you are blind.

I can see the differences just fine, but "Building his culture" is just the new "he needs time to get his guys in". It's an excuse by people pretending to be patient. You know you can build a culture AND get a few top 50 recruits at the same time, right?

First time we actually have something to play for in how many years? And yet this is the year you take a strange stand. Smelling another low IQ troll. Carry on Sqawkeye

Malachi Coleman was ranked anywhere from 60-63rd in the country. 60th by Rivals. 63rd by 247. 60th by On3. But let me guess, that doesn't count for some reason.

Happy to be playing for something in November, it's awesome. I'm talking of the investment we're making, where we're trying to go vs how we're getting there so far. There's a concerning disconnect. That doesn't mean we don't celebrate the successes, but 8-9 wins and a division championship is NOT what we are being sold. And building a culture won't get us to the next step after that, recruiting is what will take us there. I hope he does it, just because he wasn't my first choice doesn't mean I don't want him to be successful, I'm just annoyed by some of what I see. From the fanbase as well. If we weren't making a 3/4 of a billion investment I could understand being happy in year 1 with where we are. I just can't get on board with that. That's fine if you are, but it doesn't invalidate how I feel for some reason.

I wholeheartedly agree with your general premise. I just don't agree with your timeline. At all. You need to have some patience to see this thing play out. If after year 3, he doesn't start bringing in some elite recruits, then you'll have a legitimate gripe and I will join in your frustration. He didn't stick around Baylor long enough to see that phase of the process play out. Or to see if it even existed. But common sense would tell you it was likely. He deserves a little time to build something he can sell to recruits.

When you're putting out a fire, is patience the most important thing though?

@redli I think you missed this one....

You want Rhule to sign top 50 recruits. He signed a top 60 in his first month. Does it count?

Sure, he got one in state guy. Let's not pat ourselves on the back too much, you're asking for him to get credit for doing the bare minimum, like paying someone for breathing.

6'5" 4.4 in-state guys who can go anywhere are automatic now? Since when? Oh, yeah, since Matt Rhule got here. I see how Rhule is already raising your expectations.

I didn't say it was the most important thing. That would imply that I'd be willing to give him like 10 years to get there. I just think you need to be more realistic than year 1. Nebraska doesn't have jack to sell to recruits right now. It's going to take some time to build that. And none of the coaches we were going to realistically get were going to be any different than Rhule in that regard, except Urban and Deion.

No, not since Rhule got here. I expect all viable recruits within the state to be locked up by any coaching staff, those that don't raise my ire. And believe me, you DON'T want to raise my ire.

You are talking in circles. You want top 50 recruits. I provide an example. You now change it to that is to be expected. Sounds like you are preparing for if NU signs that LB out of Westside. You can discredit Rhule by saying in-state recruit. I still say you're a troll.

You guys need everything spelled out for you? Lock down the radius, get 6-7 national TOP recruits to fill in at mostly skill positions, and you're all set.

You're all set? Or we're all set? I usually refer to the Huskers as we're.
