probably the best case scenario for Rex.... great team, won't be asked to do a ton, except what he excels at... pass blocking, catching dump off passes, and getting tough yards on third down and in the redzone. the rich get richer
Great pick up for Pats. Now he can finally get some real playing time. And maybe a Super Bowl ring.
Great for Rex but still can't bring myself to root for the patriots
I think they signed him to be the lead back. They don't need his receiving skills with Lewis and White already on the team. They need a between the tackles runner. He is a Blount replacement.
They don't NEED his receiving skills... but they will certainly put them to use. Lewis has a hard time staying healthy and the patriots are always weird about their running back rotation. someone will get 25 touches one week and then barely play the next week.
Brandon Boldin replacement. And hope he adds a bit more. Would be surprised if they start him out as a primary ball carrier. He's good enough he might earn it later in the season
That's true about their rotation, very game plan specific. What I should have said is I don't see him replacing White on 3rd down, who has established himself as one of the top receiving backs in the league after that Superbowl performance.
My money would be on Rex having the most carries at the end of the year. But if Lewis returns to his 2015 form, I could see it being almost split or slightly in Lewis' favor.
I think that's the other way to look at it, but I really think he ends up having the most carries at the end of next season, barring injuries and a sudden resurgence by Lewis. We'll see, the contract might reveal a bit more about how they view him (though the Pats tend to value special teams players, too, so who knows...).

At least all you Pats haters can relish in the fact that you'll have plenty of opportunities to see Rex play, since the Pats frequently play during premium time slots

Rex will earn more next year than his previous 4 years combined. I am happy for one of the good guys in the NFL!!
